What I’ve always noticed about hockey players is they’re tough and hard-nosed on the ice,, but with personal things they’re sensitive.

A worthy Captain ,, he’s matured a lot,, and you cant beat his passion for the game.

Team building approach?!?!!?!? Surely you jest!!! It's hard to believe that at/in this age/stage, the guy doesn't have more moxie* re. coaching and [acceptable] coaching methods than to have to snoop on players' phones.
* = in this case a synonym for common sense.
Agreed, it's "hockey," but I don't get the need to set aside common sense/decency. Heck, I've been led to believe that MD/DC might have been "old school," (?) but I doubt that even he would have used such a tactic. [Had there been cell phones back when dinosaurs coached.]
I've played on some low(er) level teams, and I think a suitable reply to Mr. Babcock would have been along the lines of the response Phil Kessel supposedly came up with when coach Randy Carlyle sent another player to tell Kessel to report his start-of-camp weight: "Go tell the fat little ****** to come up here and get it himself."
Fwiw, I'm not convinced that the psyches/mindsets/outlooks of hockey players is markedly different from that of other athletes, and maybe even non-athletes. I've come across some admirable people and some dick-heads in and out of hockey/sports. Maybe a typical bell-curve distribution???

Dad made up for the loss when he, courtesy of his CEO, took me to see the Habs pound the
Rangers 11-2 on 21 Jan. '60. The Gumper was the Rangers' goalie. Our seats were in the very first row, right behind the Canadiens' bench. Their sweaters were almost fluorescent red, for the b&w television broadcasts. Lots of cheering.
