.... Nope, I ain't gonna tell you that.... if we question too much of the accepted knowledge/lore/b.s. we might stop being fans.

I'm sure glad we live in the age of instant communication.... this popped up on Facebook today... I got it only one day late:

"On this day in 1956, Don Larsen was perfect. Here’s a painting of the first pitch from the game."  [Lately Fb has been showing me quite a few paintings done by Graig Keindler... old-timers and historical aspects of the game.]

May be an image of one or more people, people playing sports, stadium and outdoors

I recall listening to that ^^ game on a transistor radio .... probably a factor in my becoming a fan (?) of the Yankees.

Beautiful painting,, wow. Did not listen to baseball yet back then, although we knew about Mantle and Berra, & co. I was too busy trying to trade some neighbourhood kid for a Rocket Richard or Gordie Howe hockey card,,,,, and of course hanging around Garden City Arena for a glimpse of any of our TeePees heroes,,,, RM Hull , S Mikita , Pieface McKenzie, etal

Iffin you're interested, check him out https://www.graigkreindler.com/.  I find the "large works" drop-down under "galleries" the most interesting.  Heck you could probably take a bit of your Youtube windfall [hack, cough, cough, splutter] and own one or three of 'em. wink

...and I see, and apologize profusely for having omitted an "r" from his name.

Since it didn't involve the Yankees, it's all academic. cheeky

But seriously folks, it is a deficiency for which I don't have an answer.   Onto a wee bit of a tangent, I've found that, generally speaking, when I watch front-on [i.e. from pitcher's perspective], to me most checked swings look like they are indeed checked.... until I see the side-on replay and I have to admit... to my v-e-r-y disinterested wife.... that I got it wrong.   The one time I get it right [last nite] and she's already gone to bed.

Answer - review a possible season-ending play/check swing/in the dirt/etc.

I dunno.... any play at any time could be [is?] a factor in the eventual outcome.  Iffin it had happened earlier in the series???  Each of the three wins seems equally important to me.  I don't know just where the line should be drawn w.r.t how "immediate" the result would have to be..... or how the level of significance should be set.   If it would be added to what's "reviewable" at any time, well ........  ??????

Edit: And don't take that as an endorsement for l-o-n-g-e-r games!!

Brett Hull’s foot in the crease…..

again, "season-ending", not a bad call in April

Nope, not for me.    A win is a win is a win!  For me, "season ending" carries the same weight as "...if such-and-such a call had / hadn't been made last week, we wouldn't even be in this situation today."

Heck, I heard that in days of yore, i.e. when the Yankees were a perennial Al powerhouse, that for practical purposes, the season for some teams ended in May.   Do those "season ending games" count?   [Not that the technology was available, but you get my drift.]

Take the Habs-Laffs game t'other night..... I watched it off-and-on, and am kinda disappointed... I didn't hear even one pronouncement re. the "playoff implications" of the game.   Do you suppose, in their wisdom (??),  the analysts have made a collective decision to wait 'til November?

In your scenario, would the "review" apply to the entire game?   Is a foot in the crease with 10 seconds left in regulation [tied game] the same as in sudden-death overtime?

Well, we can take this into a rabbit hole and start ** splitting hairs.. To me it’s as much the “optics” as the problems with officiating the game. I think it looks bad for baseball.
(Who was it that said you can win or lose the pennant in April?)

** and I'll annoy you, Owen, by not answering your questions. (I gather that's a pet peeve of yours, a la Roussin & co.)

addendum : bring on the electronic eyes and robot umpires

The uni ^^ reminds me of a pronouncement one of our grandsons spouted/repeated, out of the blue a few years ago [i.e. nothing in the immediate surroundings concerned hockey, but inside his head... who knows?] .... "We all play for Canada."  Obviously he had his priorities straight .... he hadn't started skating yet, but Canadian Tire's ads were working their magic.

And as we crossed the parking lot at the Winnipeg Winter Club, where a [3 or 4 year old] grand daughter's brother was going to be playing his tikes (?) level game: "Go Jets, Go!"

Our youngest grandson played his first game of rec. hockey this weekend. That league has each player play in goal for a game, so he decided to get it out of the way early, so that next week, “when dad is there he can watch me score goals."   Later he declared that he will be “the best player next week, because these kids can’t even skate, they each fell at least 10 times”.   His mom notes that lack of confidence isn't a problem at this point.

Thanks.   I wasn't aware of him, but I see there are  several Maracles listed on:    https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/find_player.php?full_name=maracle&imageField.x=22&imageField.y=13

[I'm sure glad they put the "Viewer discretion is advised" in there! ... As a general rule, I think one should try to be discreet.]

I recall hearing about Norm Maracle when he was with the S'k'toon Blades.  https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=16373  His birthplace is listed as Belleville, so maybe  related??  Fwiw, I see his save %age is above 90% everywhere but the NHL.

Edit: BoSox looking pretty good, no?   Or is it more lackluster (?) Houston pitching?
