I never thought Steve Martin was very funny.

Shirley... you jest?? [Although I gather you're basing ^^ on late nite TV.]

One reviewer had this to say about The Jerk:

"Willfully stupid yet utterly hilarious. Watching Steve Martin in The Jerk, I cannot help but be amazed. Martin has undoubtedly created THE dumbest character ever to appear in a movie. As Navin R. Johnson, he is dense enough to not realize that he's adopted, even though his whole family is black!..."

...the reviewer goes on from there, with numerous other examples, and describes the movie as   hilarious, believable or not; ...  on the level of a middle school production, but it's just plain funny from beginning to end; ... I laughed every minute ..."

So there!!  cheeky

P.S. The bold ^^ is my doing...  just to make sure the important parts don't slip by un-noticed.

I was taking my class to the CBC headquarters. As part of prep, I brought in tape of the Royal Canadian Air Farce that our daughter had taped. It contained, among other things, the skit of the two-man luge at the winter Olympics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SNhh0LDyeY&t=104s

They became Air Farce viewers after that. Later, one of the kids brought in a tape of Mr, Bean's Christmas. He let me borrow it and we became Mr, Bean viewers.

The Mrs, and I went to an Air Farce taping. I'd known Abbott and Ferguson at university, at least to say hi to. They didn't remember me.

Our daughter loved the commercial featuring Luba Goy as Lorena Bobbitt using the "Jinsu Knife" - "It lops off useless parts of vegetables."

They used to show movies. One evening they showed five Marx Brothers movies in a row. Now that did a number on me. I never took any illicit/illegal substances there - or anywhere else, for that matter. I did take part in jam sessions, with my electric guitar (Gretsch) and my electric bass guitar. You shoulda been there.

I was referring to the music, not the other stuff. But you seem to equate the two. surprise

Another tidbit that's news to me.... Pepitone suing Hall of Fame over the bat Mantle used to schmuck his 500th. homer:                                                       https://www.sportscollectorsdaily.com/joe-pepitone-sues-hall-of-fame-over-mantles-500th-home-run-bat/?fbclid=IwAR0Itj3DzEwKk4qb5dOng9GDd_cQ8tnTXEUKb_ZZEFKRYhBDSBKXSODm-r8

Hah,, Pepitone waits for years before filing a suit, just when the bat (probably bought by the Yankees, not him) is worth over a million. Nice try ….
Oh, btw…

“He spent four months at Rikers Island jail in 1988 for two misdemeanor drug convictions.[30] He and two other men were arrested in Brooklyn on March 18, 1985, after being stopped by the police for running a red light.[30] The car contained nine ounces of cocaine, 344 quaaludes, a free-basing kit, a pistol and about $6,300 in cash.[31] Pepitone denied knowing there were drugs and guns in the vehicle.”

"Jim Bouton talks extensively about Pepitone in his book Ball Four. Pepitone is described as being extremely vain. Bouton said that Pepitone went nowhere without a bag containing hair products for his rapidly balding head. Pepitone even had two toupees, one for general wear and one for under his baseball cap, which he called his "game piece." Bouton told a humorous story about how the game piece came loose one day when Pepitone took off his cap for the national anthem."

Owen - quote : “How it's safe for kids to skate or play shinny if the meet-up is by happenstance, but unsafe if it's pre-arranged.”
Hmmm….cuz the pre-arranged has players in an dressing / locker( for u Americ’s) room, and happenstance games are outdoors?

Or pre-arranged means predators have time and space to plan their escapades, while happenstance is too sudden and under the radar to do anything?

Hah! McGuire hits a bunt DOUBLE ,,, how about that. Don’t think I’ve seen that before. Went under the 3rd baseman’s glove and rolled & rolled.

So much for “going to New York to get-it-right”. Runner misses the bag at first, first baseman reaches for throw with foot off the bag,,, before the runner can get back to touch the base the first baseman touches the bag. They go to NY and after 3 minutes waiting the guy is called SAFE !

Your "go BooYays" apparently worked.   But ya, that decision was/is a headscratcher.

A game (?)  or two (?) ago our man Buck had Boegarts out on a "foul ball on the warning track in right center."

What's the world coming to?!?!?!?

I see Dickerson picked off second after the pitcher double-clutches on the inside pick off move to second. [I think he was surprised at how easy it was going to be.]

But more importantly, I'm having a wobbly pop [see how easy it is 49 pages in to still connect to the "topic"???]. I thought I was getting American beer when I picked up a 6-pack ring of Pabst Blue Ribbon when we went on the June 24 MOBS bluegrass spring campout, but as I'm now sucking back  #5 [i.e. can #5, not the 5th. one  today] I see "Brewed by Stroh Canada, GUELPH Ontario, N1L 1E9."

Guelph???  Is nothing sacred anymore??   wink

Guelph, the home of Sleeman,, were they bought out by Stroh’s? I’ll look it up.
Great Homer by the Springer man.
