Just heard another Tabler-ism for your contemplative pleasure :
“The key to getting a good batting average with men in scoring position is getting a good pitch to hit.”

... or like Vlady Sr. ..... anything from ankle high to slightly higher than his head.  yes

[I don't recall that he ever hit one that was bounced in, but that doesn't mean he didn't try.]

Good clip.... thanks. He apparently genuinely enjoyed the game, and hopefully it rubbed off.

Maybe he should hang out with Danault - keeping the pizzeria in business after every game.

Something stinks in the state of Denmark…. Or in Gary B’s office. Ya can’t let the barn in Tampa be packed to da rafters , and then only allow 3500 in Moan-Ray-all. Keep it the same,,,3500 in Tampa, fcol! Fan adrenal vibe is good for an extra goal.

Here's a link to a dude who analyzed it to an extent I'm not knowledgeable about, nor inclined to diligently read about: https://nypost.com/2021/02/01/home-ice-once-again-means-something-for-nhl-bettors/

Was/is it Bettman's call?   Maybe he could over-rule the public health edicts in those places that are more "open,"  ... but should he?    Maybe we should look at the bigger picture, and be thankful that "we" are being kept safe, while those miscreants in The States will soon be overwhelmed.... and sorry for their selfish, irresponsible behaviour.  wink

Some guys play better on the road, although I suspect  %ages say that that doesn't extend to team performance [i.e. the ^^ article might shed more light on the matter].

...... "next goal's a big one!"

This guy Chatwood is really wearing me out,, again he can’t pitch his way out of a paper bag, then has the nerve to yell at his manager when Charlie comes to yank him. Same as he did a couple of weeks ago.  Sheesh...Send the bum back down to Buffalo,,,, err, wait a sec,, they ARE in Buffalo. Ok then, Dunedin.
(btw, look who’s with Bob Elliott in the Twitter photo,,,, )

So now I'm gonna have to watch tonight's game to see IF I can catch a replay.... IF it's on Westman cable [there's been a couple of nites lately with NO hockey or MLB   sad ] .... IF I can stand Tabler for more than  a few seconds [read: IF no other game is on]..... and IF I can stay awake. Man, that's  a lot of "ifs."

P.S. .... What have you got against the good folks in Dunedin?  wink

It looks like the Jays are trying some new (?) strategy: Ryu pitching back-to-back games. [What's with that?..... I'll have to watch closely to make sure I don't miss Tabler's take on it. wink ]

The program listed as Blue Jays in 30 has the same game as the one listed as MLB: Blue Jays at Seattle... only about 1/2 inning or an inning ahead.    [Now I just gotta find somebody I can make a few bets with..... sorry Mrs. Lindsay.]

Okay, Chuck here's another one of Tabby's you should take a crack at deciphering.  Conventional wisdom [and I suspect actual stats] says that sinker ball pitchers get a high(er) proportion of ground ball outs.  Cimber comes in, pitching side arm / down under / ???. and Tabler says that the pitched ball rising, or having the illusion of rising, results in a lot of ground ball outs.   So, balls rising and balls sinking get the same end result??  I think I'm gonna get confused..... or maybe stick to hockey which I might understand marginally better.

This is an example of what I was yammering about a few weeks back:   https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/video/sergachev-called-cheap-shot-lehkonen/  IF Lehkonen hadn't hit the boards rather hard, would there have been a penalty?  Should there have been a penalty? My take is "no" and "yes" .... although that's not how it's normally called.

I don’t like the push that close to the boards,, too dangerous. Same push at mid-ice,,?… play on! Sort of like boarding, which isn’t called that often anymore.
BTW,, those Finns are tuff, doncha know,,, but them dirty Russians are all cowards (& they never wear poppies)

Same push at center ice???   What next?? ...picks a la basketball??   ... or 70s clutch-and-grab [only at center ice]??

I didn't realize Ruskies were included in "you people." wink

Basketball…?? Sheesh, now we’re breaking new ground on this august thread. But I’m with Pal Hal Harold Ballard who once muttered when the NBA held an exhibition game at Maple Leaf Gardens , “Basketball is for tall freaks - just give each team 100 points and then let’em play the last 5 minutes!”

More "Ballard-isms" ...

One of the things that turns me off about basketball [at least the NCAA variety*] is that it takes 'em +/- 20 minutes to play the last few minutes.  Now, they do get some exciting action in there, but I'd like it if they could figure out how to limit/reduce the inaction.... and seeing an occasional brain cramp [due to the pressure??] does liven things up.

* = I usually only watch  "March Madness" [even the half of it that's in April], so some probably  figure I don't qualify as an expert.

The Habs, other than a few guys, look slow-footed & plodding. Maybe the other 3 series’ battles are catching up with them.

Di'n't I tell ya "next goal's a big one"?  Uncle Mo is a funny [odd?] team mate.  But, otoh Tampa didn't get this far by being a bunch of slouches.

Slow-footed and plodding would make 'em look like a whole team of Perrys, no?

One time back in intermediate I got moved up to the wing with two of our teams better players.  I was so slow-footed and plodding I was always skating in the wrong direction.... the opposition had "transitioned" from defence to offence and I was still heading into the zone, and vice-versa.  crying

[P.S. The "experiment" lasted 1 period.]

Argh,, I know da feeling… I told you about the time I transitioned from left wing to defence,,,, the last game of hockey I ever played.

(but FYI I bought a stick & puck last winter and strapped on the blades at the local park….. thinkin’ about makin' a comeback in the Geritol League!)

One of my colleagues "up north" was regaling us with a tale from his grade 6 class. Apparently he had been giving them the gears over something-or-other and a girl piped up, "Take it easy Mr. _____ , you'll pop a vessel."   He did admit that it was quite funny, but he figured it best to not let on to the kids, so he continued on for what he deemed an appropriate time.

There's no comeback in the cards for me.  I've been needing foot orthotics full-time since shortly after buying a pair of "like new" Tacks. sad  They don't fit into the skates.... and anyway, both knees are more or less shot.   Aren't you glad you asked!?!?!?!   A few years ago I tried to get a Harley up from the kickstand and didn't have the strength in my left knee/leg .... have since had knee replacement, but haven't seen any bulging muscles.  When I win 6/49, some of it is earmarked for a Can-Am Spyder.

I had a really off-the-wall kid in my last class (grade eight), often saying loopy things. I made the mistake of asking him, "What planet are you from?" He didn't miss a beat: "Uranus."

The best class I ever had was a grade six, '84-'85. At the end of the year we went to High Park, and bbq'd hot dogs in my back yard. We'd only been in the house less than two years and it "needed work", to say the least. I warned the kids that the place was a mess. So we're walking up the driveway between houses and Enzo says, "This isn't so bad, sir, not bad at all. The only thing wrong ... is the garage, and the house!" And Giovanna would look up at me in class and say, "Giraffe!" (I still miss that class. I took them on thirteen field trips.)

Man... talk about a rock and a hard place.  Mets throttling the Yankees on one channel, or listen to Pat Tabler on another.   Maybe BoSox in Oakland tonight will be more relaxing..... maybe get in some TIMTIM during slack times.
