Tied going into the ninth.  ....for a bit it looked like the A's might take the lead which [hopefully] could mean only a half inning.   Decisions, decisions!!    Maybe both at somewhat reduced volume?

Turned out that the "bonus coverage" was quite interesting.  But how in Hades does a team have bases loaded, none out, and be unable to get a run across?   Oh! just a minute.... the A's demonstrated one way!!

[Same question, but with a small twist: I recall a game back in LL or Bantam.... we were up on our arch nemesis .... the Kamsack Cyclones... 8 or 9 nothing going into the bottom of the final inning ... probably a 7-inning game??.... and we found a way to lose.  crying  ]

...looks like they aren't ready for golf just yet.

On their first shift, I figured the Anderson-Suzuki-Caufield line was an improvement over Kotkaniemi-S-C.  .... but that could be clouded by Kotkanemi never being one of my favourites, though he does look "okay" at times.

Edit: On The National Allison Northcott figures they have to "take it one game at a time."  Go figure!

One game's just okay. Two would at least make it respectable.

.... and should they somehow happen to make it three, I'll be greatly disappointed if I don't see calls for Bergevin getting a contract extension and a b-i-g raise.   wink

Bergevin's been around for - what - eight years? He's made sideways trades and recycled old Francophone coaches. Suddenly he lucks into old players making the league minimum and a couple of young guns and he's a genius? Looks like he's accomplished his goal - saving his job.

....a tip of the toque to the Lightening.    I had been wondering whether Gallagher was injured as he was a non-factor*... looks like that was/is the case.

* = ditto for Tofoli and Staal ... kinda like Kotkaniemi all along.... more-or-less "just there."  I think Caufield will develop into a player who can "hold his own," but I don't think he'll be the second coming [of Cournoyer].... although IF the "right mix" happens, ya never know!!

Go Yankees, Go!!

Lord Stanley’s mug remains in Tampa. Phil (ex-TeePee) Esposito will be celebrating again,,,he started the franchise. Corngrats to the Lightning. And the Moan-Ray-allers did more than anyone expected.
Go, BooYays.

Oooops.... Lightning.... a Canadian sorry to all I've offended.  Too bad it's now a switch to golf, instead of baseball/fastball like in "the good old days."  I think there were quite a few hockey players that whiled away summers playing ball.   [Alas, if the buzz on the street means anything.... time marches on.]

I had a friend [from Red Lake, no less] who told about facing Peter Stemkowski pitching fastball.  Size + hop ahead of the rubber + pitch speed/movement + a wee bit of swagger/intimidation = low BAs.

This tidbit appeared on my Facebook page today.  I didn't realize Mantle said that, but I s'pose it could be a case of "in one ear and out the other."

"On this day in 1995, a frail Mickey Mantle made his 1st public appearance since undergoing a liver transplant, telling those in attendance: “Don't be like me, ya know? I mean, God gave me a body, the ability to play baseball—which is what I wanted to do—it was just wasted.”?

Here’s a painting of Mickey at Comiskey Park in September of 1961."

Methinks the Hawks "saw them [i.e. Oilers] coming."   https://www.si.com/hockey/news/blackhawks-trade-duncan-keith-to-oilers?fbclid=IwAR3vUDkh0o2wXeh9NyirTYRqZETtNgdglc3muI-ytemlyBqpubgZCKFKvp0

Now, had it happened a few years ago... ????

....Or maybe the Oilers are hoping he'll be another Gordie Howe and have another decade or two left in him??  [.... or even a Chris Chelios?]

Always sad to see a premier player git auld, but he was wanting to go to a western team,,, his roots are in Fort Frances, Winterpeg, and Penticton (home of the world champion Penticton Vees many moooooons ago)

p.s. The Penticton Vees were named for the victory, valiant, and vidette varieties of peaches grown in the Okanagan Valley.

Roster of the 1955 Vees : Maybe you know some o’ these Man-ee-toe-bah players - looks like Bernie Bathgate could have been Andy’s brother. Andy went to Guelph to play fer da Biltmores,, Bernie headed west to pick peaches in da Ok-ah-noggin

Smart thinking, John. It’s best to leave the gossip out of our minds. Take Tiger, for example….

Huh,,, ? I’ve lived a rather sheltered life, Owen,, sheltered from (you know it!) ee-lek-tri-fried “music” … so I know not of any connection between peaches and some weird-sounding singer who seems to masquerade as a miller.

(btw, the hockey Tiger once gave Pal Hal a bearskin rug ,, from a bear he had shot in the Rockies one year.  Talk about suckin' up to the boss trying to keep your job,,, haha)

The crux of it, sans amplification and all other accoutrements: "You're the cutest thing that I ever did see.
I really love your peaches.... wanna shake your tree... ."
