Thanks.  Sleeman's Honey Brown comes in a close fifth after Rickard's Red, Kokanee Gold, Custom (?) 1/2 and 1/2 mix of Fort Garry Dark/Light, and Original 16 Copper Ale.

Edit: Chuck, I hear my man Pallister is switching careers.   Maybe that dude who lives an hour or so north of the middle of nowhere wasn't as dumb as he looks when he wondered/prognosticated about Pallister's motivation in calling people [like moi] who don't see things his way as selfish, irresponsible idiots.   Alas, it makes no diff in the big picture.

One million too much…..

I didn't know you were in the bidding, but I sorta understand.  Back when I was trying to farm, more than once at auction I'd be interested in a vehicle or piece of equipment and decide on my max. price..... only to have it surpassed by the opening bid.   

But, in one way ^^ that's a bargain ...... Iffin you were bidding in Cdn, dollars it would have taken about 8.4 million of the suckers instead of only 6.6.

We've been going to art auctions for years. Not the hoity-toity ones, but stuff with good paintings anyway. One time there was a Graham Norwell up for bid. We saw it at the gallery and really liked it. Now, Norwell was an alcoholic and would sell a watercolour for the price of a bottle. But this one was exceptional - an oil, probably of Georgian Bay, with rich colours. The evening of the auction the Mrs. was making dinner, I reminded her that this was auction night, and commented on the Norwell. She said, "If we can get it for $2.000." So we went and sat through a lot of paintings. The auction went in alphabetical order, so we missed out on Manly MacDonald paintings that we could have gotten. Then the Norwell came up and the guy said, "There's a lot of interest in this one. We'll start the bidding at ... $2.500." The Mrs. just handed me the bid card and we sat there with the wind out of our sails. It sold for $3,250.

Later, a Tom Roberts painting came up. She knew I liked it and asked if I wanted to bid. I said, "Oh, all right," and she started bidding. Then she asked where I wanted to stop. I looked at the estimate in the catalogue: $600 - 800. I told her to stop at $600. She did and that was her bid and that was where the bidding stopped. Some time later my brother said, on the phone from Montreal, that a gallery there had one. We visited and saw it in the gallery window - $2,200, same size, and I thought ours was better.

....finally.... I can now die a fulfilled being..... a broadcaster on the Dodgers-Mets game just explained the diff between control and command:  "Control is when you can throw strikes, Command is when you can hit the corners." 

I wonder if our man Buck happened to be tuned in to the broadcast??

Dunno about those Dodging or Metropolitanizing guys,,, seems like control can also/aussi mean hittin’ the corners. Esposito* (a serf under DC/MD at one time) said he could hit the corners of the net while he commanded a presence in the slot.

*in case you weren't aware, he was a TeePee in 1961-62

..... thankfully the universe is unfolding as it should.... on the Jays broadcast Buck once again pointed out that a batted ball picks up speed when it hits the ground.   I dunno how we managed to play "knocking out flies" out in the boonies when we were kids .... 100 for fly ball, 75 for 1 bounce, 50 for 2, etc.  By Buck's physics (?) we should have scored more for a 2-bounce than a 1..... is it any wonder that I "peaked early" as a ball player?

Well, the only time I’ve encountered a ball picking up speed after a bounce was an India rubber ball with lots of top spin….. make sure you wear a jock

I gather box lacrosse likely wouldn't be your first choice.   

Box lacrosse was big in St. Kitts,, but the Six Nations boys from near Brantford way kicked everybody’s butts.

Yep... used to watch House of Frightenstein after I got to the city in the mid-60s.  Methinks Buck's hypothesis is based on repeating platitudes/phrases/tidbits which he heard along the line, but doesn't understand.   My hypothesis says one needs a can because of things like coefficients of friction*  (?) and elasticity* (?) and other big words* (?)  make the IRB take a different trajectory, and at a speed that is reduced less than that the one expected from having become accustomed to the reactions of other balls.

* = I warned ya... I took physics in high school!!  

Edit: A couple of relatives on my mom's side of the family that didn't migrate west [i.e. never met them] apparently were quite accomplished at lacrosse... might have been from around Peterborough, but I recall mom telling us about them playing in Canadian championships vs. the "New Westminster Salmonbellies."  Not sure, but it could well have been field lacrosse.

Peterborough, St. Catharines, Oshweken , Brooklin (north of Whitby, where DC/MD’s former boss Harry Sinden donned the blades for the World Champion “Dunlops”), Dundas, and Etobicoke were box lacrosse hotbeds in Ontario.

Owen, I know you must have connections with the higher-ups in the sports world,,,, could you please ask associates of Buck Martinez to tell him to quit beginning ALL his comments with the word “Yeah”….?

I wasn't aware of ^^.... now I'll have to check it out.  I've found that with my less than perfect hearing, an interjection (?) preceding the schpiel is a good thing, as it alerts me to "listen up."

In any event I might not be the man for the job.  (a) I've noticed that I start many of my own comments with "Ya, but........ ."   And (b) now-a-days, my contacts with the upper echelon is pretty much limited to personally knowing the head honcho of the Leduc Sunday Evening Ladies Shinny. 

..... Just be glad they don't put together a broadcast team of Pat Tabler, A-Rod and Jessica Mendoza. I'm    just imagining it.
