It was one of the Williams sisters [Venus I think??] that once opined that "If you dress like a slob, you'll act like a slob."  

I recall decades ago [when the Regina Rams and the Saskatoon Hilltops took turns winning the jr. football championship] seeing a group of the Rams sauntering along in downtown Winnipeg one Sat. evening.... ties and team jackets.  Jackets with a small team crest.  I dunno whether or not they were "expressing themselves," but I got the impression that they were in town on business..... and chances are pretty good that they took care of business on Sunday afternoon.

Well I wouldn’t equate wearing a suit with BLM, or sexual abuse. A suit is a suit is a sweat shirt, imho. When bands starting wearing casual clothes - CCR, CSNY, JD Crowe, etc.- I welcomed the change

Those were the days - Etcheverry to Patterson, the Fog Bowl, the Grey Cup tripping incident. In Montreal George Dixon became the favourite. "Let George do it."

My parents had season tickets - same stadium they play in today. That who; gang of old folks had their fan support down to a fine art. They brought the blankets and the booze and mixers. Rye and ginger, gin and tonic, rum and coke. They were in fine form. Occasionally someone couldn't make it and one of the boys would get to go - that's how I know. It was impressive! No beer (and no beer sales), just the old folks passing the mickeys and mixers.

Dad hated Ted Workman, the Als' owner. He'd say he was wrecking the team. The Etcheverry trade was the last straw (almost). (Etcheverry didn't accept the trade and went to St. Louis, where they called him the "Ice Man" because he was cool under pressure. When he came back I'd see him at mass at St. Ignatius.)

My parents came to Toronto for the '70 Grey Cup. They finally got to see the Als win one.

...watched the Remembrance Day ceremony this a.m. on Global TV.  Dawna Friesen made a comment that reminded me of you-know-who, saying that "many/most people who wear poppies don't know why they're wearing them."  Dunno if she was reading a script or ad-libbing.... but I do know that if there's a continuation of the goofy measures/commentary/activities associated  with the widespread affliction (?) we can't mention, and our queen's representative dressing up in an air force uniform [another word for costume in this particular instance], henceforth I'll be showing my respect all by my lonesome.

Watching the Lightning/Islanders game, heard a familiar voice,,, a Dauphin Junior grad.

When I started playing intermediate hockey that's the style (???) of helmet I wore [white with a black and a red pinstripe.... to complement the Chi-Hawks away uniforms the Swan River Imperials s;orted].   I don't recall seeing many of that type around.... if it's good enough for me, it should be good enough for Butch!!   My wife has Antiques Roadshow on at the moment..... will have to check in on my man Pulock when I get the chance.

5 NHL games via TSN tonight.... from Philly, Buffalo, The Center of the Universe, Winnipeg and Montreal. A usual, w.r.t Montreal, "The scheduled program is not available in your region."   Is there a logical explanation why it should be this way?   What is there about beautiful west-central Man-ee-toe-bah that precludes us receiving the games from Montreal?   What did we do to deserve this?

I'm reminded of when I started out ... at age ten.... the first time I ever skated was in a hockey game.... the play may have gone  end to end, but I was lucky to make it blue line to blue line.

I think my grandson has a leg up on those others,, it’s his first year playing hockey, but he already knows how to snowboard.
(I could claim he has my genes, but that would probably doom him to the taxi squad later at college/university.
