I hadn't noticed anything being dropped or picked up during the broadcast... but I thought Kirk's applying of the tag was a bit sloppy (?). Since Kiermier just happened upon it, it's "c'est la vie," so far as I'm concerned.
Now all we need is for the players to carry a few different sets of cards so one lost/found card will be no big deal.... so long as each player of the team that owns the card knows the "key" that designates which is the "live" set. I can see it leading to some interesting situations.
Heck, it might even rival Canseco bouncing the flyball off his noggin for a homer. ![]()

I support all holidays! Truth & Reconciliation day is September 30. It's a federal stat. It's not recognized in all provinces. It should be.

All?? Ya, well the jury is now "in." Tallied 'em up for 5th. inning tonight........ 15 [45%] yas and 18 [55%] non-yas. But, ya, now that you've pointed it out it is quite noticeable, but once in a while it is appropriate as it answers a question posed by Dan The Man. Maybe I've been subconsciously cutting him some slack, figuring he was kinda using it as a schwa sound.
4 runs for the Twins in their half and Grichuck steps on Hernandez's hand... oy vey. But on the bright side, the Yankees haven't packed it in.
A Bill Felber [whoever he is] opines that "while Tabler is a fully competent analyst, his oratory is merely good." https://calltothepen.com/2021/04/26/rating-mlb-play-by-play-and-color-voices-the-al-east/4/
If that's any indication of Mr. Felber's ability/smarts, then let me say this about that:

Like a "Safety meeting" Nobody works. Nobody gets hurt!
I'm all about regional holidays.
I think about our relationship with our native neighbours all the time.
I learned that when the Spanish conquistadors were raping & pillaging they took home some of the domesticated turkeys that the locals were raising at the time. Those breeds were refined over there & reintroduced back to North America. They are the ones we eat for our seasonal holidays.
Bubba, your comment re. "Safety meeting" reminds me of an exchange between my wife and her teaching assistant on one reserve. [Background info.... the TA's husband was the reserve's NADAP co-ordinator.... I think that stands for Northern Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program. He had a side gig as a second tier bootlegger, but that's a story for another time.] The TA mentioned something about her husband being the NADAP co-ordinator. My wife asked: "Well, what does he actually do?" "He holds meetings." "Who goes to the meetings?" "Nobody."
C'est la vie!
Fwiw, I too frequently ponder the us-them relationship that's been in place for 500 years. I'm not convinced that a National T & R Day will advance the ideal of "equality".... but then again, I have my doubts that equality [especially equality of opportunity] is a goal of leadership.
Ok, bak to DC’s favorite summer sport. I propose a rule change! If a batter gets hit by a pitch because he was swinging at it and his arm thereby gets in the way of the baseball, it shouldn’t be “hit-by-pitch”,, it should be a dead ball,,, no first base awarded, no strike or ball. How’s dat grabya? That damn runner helped tie the game up.....

... The status quo suits me. It's not a hit-by pitch if the batter swings at it [which he didn't, btw], even on appeal; isn't it just a strike? I suspect that any runners on base wouldn't be able to advance??
Edit: But what doesn't suit me is balls +/-20.33 cm off the plate being called strikes!! &*%$#&^% $%#@&%! [And just for you Chuck, that's 8".

.... toward? or parallel to?
Would whether the ball is curving toward or away from the batter make a diff? The curve [assuming it's not an optical illusion!!] would be the pitcher's doing, not the batters.
Is the [front] leg lift and subsequent foot plant [given the bruhaha (?) in another thread I hope that's the appropriate word], or any other body part movement/rotation part of a swing/checked swing? Fwiw, I say they are.... and your proposal could be opening Pandora's box.... and maybe not upping the "fairness" quotient. I haven't rechecked Pilliar taking one in the face, but I wonder if he had started a swing/checked swing.
The analysts [dunno about Tabby] often use the term "offered at" which always seemed a bit nebulous to me, but now that you've got me thinking a bit more about it, maybe it's the best description.
Just like a check-swing call, it would be a judgement call , fer shore. You probably remember the days when Drysdale or somebody would be pitching and Willie Mays would come up and you just knew he’d have to hit the deck on the first or second pitch. Nowadays with all the “armor” (“armor” in mini-soda) hitters can be more fearless. (overheard from that ex-BooYay, mini-soda native, and hard-nosed pitcher Jack Morris)
Nah.... I just watch the computer generated "strike zone" or preferably an overhead replay. a) One diameter of the ball off the black.... give the ump the benefit of any doubt. b) 1 to 2 diameters of the ball ... pretty iffy [okay if it favours "my" team, not so much if it favours the other team
]. c) more than two diameters .... "kill the *^&%$ ump."
Edit: And IF I was an ump and noticed a catcher trying to hoodwink me by pulling a pitch into the strike zone [a.k.a. "framing" a pitch], I'd call it a ball on principle!! The catcher ain't gonna be moving his mitt a very much on pitches that catch the strike zone, IMNSHumbleO.

Go Yankees!! Go! [But with my limited knowledge, the Dodgers look for-mi-dable.]
Smoltz and some other dude are announcing the Red Sox-Rays game. Smoltz says Nelson Cruz gets power by having his bat stay in the strike zone longer than other batters. About 1 second later, the other guy says Cruz's power comes from his bat being exceptionally quick through the zone. Has there been stop frame timing [or other hi tech stuff] to actually determine the time it takes for bats to pass through the zone? Can some guy in the broadcast booth actually see the differences [as they'd have us believe]? Or is one [or both] of 'em just babbling?
Edit: Nevertheless, an "interesting" game. I was still settling in to watch Chris Sale mow 'em down, and next thing.... wtf???

“Through the strike zone” methinks means poipendickular/parallel (?) to to ground,, not an uppercut or a downward swing,, n’est-ce pas? But I question the one second thing,,, geez, where’s Tabby when ya need him……
[not having seen the Giants for a while, I see they have a Yaz ,,, the grandson of Carl ]

My interpretation is it starts when the bat enters the strike zone [at the back/peak/tip/?? of the home-plate] and ends when the bat leaves the front edge of the plate [passing more-or-less parallel to ground]. I wonder what the "range" of those times would be for a bat that stays longer compared to one that passes through quickly. The "one second later" I referred to is how much time elapsed between the two announcers saying diametrically opposed things and neither offering any explanation or correction [BUT, I'm pretty sure the second dude didn't introduce his comment with "Yah..."
].
