No fog, but could be chilly in June with a breeze coming off L. Ontario.
I ventured over to Norway Park a number of years ago to see the site of old Maple Leaf Stadium (behind TipTop Tailors factory) where the International League Laffs used to play,, I believe Sparky Anderson being a Laff at one time.

I thought this was a hockey thread, not an old baseball stadium thread. So, back to business.

Curious what you folks think the league will bestow on Mark Scheifele for his hit on Jake Evans last night at 19:03 in the 3rd, right after Evans scored a wraparound empty-net goal.

Scheifele got a major for charging and a game misconduct, but the player safety committee is now involved - hearing today, supposedly. The only suspension for charging this season was a one-game suspension (Carson Soucy, Minnesota). Biggest suspension this year was Tom Wilson of Washington, who got 7 games for boarding.

I think it should be at least five for something this egregious.

I think that hothead Shifty should get the book thrown at him. It was a blatant attempt to injure,, no way he could have prevented that goal with a body check,, maybe a reach with his stick but that was unlikely too.
Old stadiums? How about the old Bahsten Gahden where players in the penalty box would kill rats running under the grate on the floor with the butt end of their sticks. 
.... well, then you've got blowhards like Mike Commodore and Sean Avery piping up about Evans not keeping his head up or hinting he could have done something else rather than selfishly going for a goal. 

IF they decide to throw the book at Schieffle, I don't think it should be a reewee, reewee thick book.  In spite of how much I spout off, I don't watch a lot of hockey, and I haven't tried to see/hear any expert (?) analysis, and I don't know what range of punishment is available, but my thinking is that it should be a bit closer to the lower end than the upper.  Schieffle didn't leave his feet in making the hit, didn't cross-check or elbow, and so far as I know doesn't have a reputation as a hot-head/dirty player [5 seconds of last nite's game notwithstanding].  It does appear to me to be an attempt to injure, so a fine of $5000 won't cut it....... 2 game max.?????

Edit: Skip, I think it's evolved/devolved into a catch-all sports thread.  My say means diddly squat, but so long as golf, archery, bowling, ultimate frisbee, horse/auto racing aren't considered "sports," I'm okay with it. [P.S. What about the 2nd. positive test on Medina Spirit?]

The guy was going like an express train. At that speed there was bound to be some damage. And the elbow to the head on Perry's goal wasn't called, was it? That was pretty blatant. Is the message, "You score on us, we hurt you"? I guess if you can't score, you try to reduce the roster. That could get ugly.

As far as the "he should have his head up", that's a crock. That was a shoulder to the head, targeted.

Four games.    Anthony Stewart [I think] said the league is "clearly ending a message that this won't be tolerated."   When I hear "sending a message," it makes me wonder how it squares with the "punishment must fit the crime" pillar of justice.   To me that makes it sound like: 2 for the crime plus 2  as a message?   I'm not complaining. C'est la vie!

...and given the results from early games, some somewhat surprising (?) results in the World tourney [i.e. Canada 2 - Ruskies 1].  https://www.iihf.com/en/events/2021/wm   I guess it's: "Hope springs eternal..." and "That's why you play the games." and all that rot.   I've only caught snippets of games.... lots of names I don't recognize.... some of 'em Team Canada.   I expect everybody here wishes them well in Saturday's semi-final vs the USA.

If the ringers (?) are brought in early enough, and everybody involved is aware of the possibility, then I guess I can go along with it.  More often than not if it happens later on, it's disruptive and counter-productive... at least in my observations and to my way of thinking.

Well, what a coinkydinky. I was a stage manager at the Mariposa Folk Festival in '82, held in Little Norway Park. My stage was called "B.C. and the Territories" for the all-Canadian festival. We staged Valdy and other Wet Coast acts.

We took our students to see the Jays. at the Ex and at Skydump. We were watching them lose at the Ex and it was getting late. A bunch of teachers got their classes up and headed for the exits. We were taking Transit and they wanted a head start back to school. I figured I'd keep my class to the end, as there'd be a huge lineup at the bus stop already. Well, didn't the Jays come from behind to win in the bottom of the ninth! I felt good for my class. Whenever we went to the other place, the dome was closed. (My first time at the dome was for a blood donor clinic.)

The Tip Top building was converted to condos.

That evolved. At the start line, someone asked, "Are there hills on this route?" We were going from Mississauga to Guelph via the Halton Hills. I simply said, "There are no hills in Ontario. If you want hills, go out west." Then, as I was passing people going up those nonexistent hills, I'd say, "Hills build character." Then it became, "Gears are your friends." Good advice, too.

Canada 3 - Finland 2 (OT)  ....  it's good to see some lesser-lights (?) persevere.       The [genuine, but respectful??] smile on Adam Henrique's face while he handed out medals was worth the price of admission.

I guess these rabid responders don’t know what “ intent to injure” looks like.  Even the Craig-meister Simpson said at the time it looked like a guy who was very frustrated looking to take it out on someone (paraphrasing). Then I think I heard the Hrudey fella say years ago that would have been a standard hockey play.

Holeee! If anyone had said my Habs would be leading the series 3-0, I'd say he'd have to have his head read. But they've established a commanding presence. Someone said the fact they can roll over all four lines with equal ice time is keeping them fresh. If they win this round, they'll have gone two rounds farther than I expected. And what's with the Winnipeg elbows and crosschecks after a Canadiens goal?

It seems that the ice-covered runways are too short for the Jets to get any kind of a lift, but the Habs will soon tell them to “Take Off, eh”.

My prediction is that the Jets go on auto-pilot for the next and last game of the series before crashing and burning while attempting a landing.

Alas, I can Shafely say that this is the Price one must pay for arrogance and overconfidence – you always get your comeuppance!
