Well, my years of watching hockey & grimacing over dumb knuckle-draggers looking for a dust-up (I know, I know - real brave of me saying that & hiding behind a keyboard) I’ve noticed anytime a team sags for whatever reason these guys will take it upon themselves to stir up some much-needed team Adrenalin. With the maple buds in shock, horror, fear, regret, sorrow last night, the ex-captain Nick decided to play hero, or to be generous he took one for the team.
Anyway, these old fossils out there on ‘da hice’, as they say in Moan-Ray-all, like Staal, Thornton, Spezza, and Perry are a menace to the modern game of speed and la-dee-da hockey. A younger man with skating speed & dexterity could have done a better job of hurdling over the fallen Tavares. A slow-footed hothead like Perry should be out on his front porch rocking chair talking to his mailman about his heroic exploits in the hockey wars. More on this later - I have an urge to engage in some serious T-I-M ‘ ing.

.... C'mon, if Perry was any faster he'd have been past the "crash zone" before Tavares arrived there!  

Here's a hypothetical for ya.  Suppose Perry had fallen to the ice after being checked [by a Maple Laff, not by a team mate].... and Tavares stumbled/tripped over him and went into the boards and suffered an apparent injury.  Should Foligno  play hero (?)  or take one for the team (?)  to get them past their shock/fear/horror/etc.?  .... or just dispense some "pay-back" for injuring le capitaine.

As far as I could tell, Nick Folly-no made the case that CoPer did it on purpose, a trumped-up charge that even capitaine Weber (“I speak Francais with a accent agu”) came over to dispute. Perry-ier decided wth, I might as well get this over with, otherwise there’ll be the other goons to contend with all night.
Your hypothetical all-or-nothing case has it as a completely innocent ‘hockey play’, whatever the hades that means these days. Which means a brouhaha a la knuckles would really look ridiculous and might backfire, giving the opposition more grist for the proverbial mill.
Back to T-I-M-T-M-I-T-M’ ing

.... or If Perry's knee had contacted Tavares's shoulder ... with no injury to Tavares, but a significant knee injury for Perry.  Would one, or more, of Les Habs be justified in helping his team re-focus by giving Tavares a few in the chops?   [Or would the post-rehab reduction in Perry's  "speed" be considered pay-back enuff?]   

Edit: As far as I could tell, Folly-no had NO case.... even a blind man on a galloping horse could see it was an innocent "hockey play" ... whatever that means.  Methinks it unlikely that a person would live to adulthood IF he/she/it/?? is so stoopid to put forth an argument of "intentional."   Since Folly-no  apparently has lived to adult hood, he should come up with something at least marginally believable.

I think you, me and OTGAO might agree on ^^.  One I don't get is the diving/embellishment.  Penalize diving, but if a dude goes thru many contortions worthy of a top notch break dancer, while trying, and ultimately failing, to maintain his his balance after being checked/hooked/etc. I don't think an embellishment penalty is warranted.

Jets sweep Oilers..... gotta admit I didn't predict that one.... although I do recall some obscure know-it-all saying that the Jets 4th. line was a big plus factor for the team.  They [Copp, Lowry, Appleton] seem able to play effectively against any of the other lines, with whatever "style" of play is needed.   The shadowing (?) reminded me of Hull/Watson except it was X5..

Re. "... and Pat “Tabby” Tabler’s pronouncements concerning “ it’s a good time to get a hit - right now!”   Somebody was on the radio this a.m. saying that "now is the time for honesty."  It was in regards to the culture within our military that allows sexual misconduct, but I think the logic seems apropos in both cases.   Last nite Harnarayan Singh deemed a save made by Hellebuyck (sp?) as "could turn out to  be a game saver."   Given it was O.T., one might  convince me to agree with him, but I don't mind cutting him a bit of slack, as the speed of the game could be a factor.

Best shadowing of Hull was by craggy-faced Claude Provost, who did it cleanly and effectively. Three of the Habs' four home games wee shutouts.

Someone said the Habs are playing not to lose instead of playing to win. Some time back I thought they should have tanked and gone for more draft picks. Well, when they lose this series, which is a sure thing, I hope they get rid of that awful GM. So far the only good trade he's made is for Toffoli. And drop the stupid French-speaking coach rule. They never spoke French in that dressing room.

Of course, they haven't had a decent GM since the Seventies. This once storied club is a shell of its former self. Over the decades they've seen established streaks broken - no playoff losses to Boston, no playoff losses to the Leafs since '67, not finishing out of the playoffs since '70, Stanley Cups in every decade.

Management wants to provide an "entertainment experience". Want to entertain a Montreal crowd? Win a friggin' Stanley Cup. Geez, at least build a contender.

I didn't see what transpired last nite re. MacLean allegedly making "homophobic remarks".... and CBC did an exceptionally pizz-poor job of reporting it tonight.  The other panelists [Hrudy, Campbell-Pascal and Bieksa] had a good chuckle at the time, so my initial reaction is that Weasel MacLean is probably lying with his explanation about referring to "testing positive for alcohol consumption."   

I don't know why people want to waste time/money "investigating" the origin of Covid, when what we obviously need is an investigation into ^^.

I'm thinking HNIC should have kept DC/MD and sacked Maclean!!  
 

I'm not even following it. The outcome is predictable. I guess it really rankles that the Toronto-centric media will make something big of it. As someone else said, the Habs' biggest rivalry is with Boston. Hogtown wasn't even on the map except for '67. Toronto will gloat, though. It's the anti-French thing. I've heard remarks by Torontonians.

Geez Paul,, weren’t those Cup-winning Habs teams back in the day loaded with Quebec players cuz Pollock had first pick of the French Canadian stars coming out of junior? When that secenario ended so did the dynasty, no ?

I've been spoiled. Through grade school, high school, university, and beyond, Les Glorieux just kept winning Cup after Cup.

Pollock was a master. He even traded to the last-placed team so they'd rise to second-last. And the second-last's draft pick had been traded to the Habs, so he made sure they came last and got first pick.

Anyway, here's what some fan says: "Here are 2 sure tell signs that show that your team is really crappy : 1. Most nights, you make most opposing goalies , even ordinary ones, look great when they're playing against you. 2. Many, many times midway or late in the season you see opposing players score their first or second goal of the year against you. If I had $1000 for each time these two aforementioned points have happened vs the Habs this year, I'd be a pretty happy camper and would finally have a reason to like this team.."

When I was a kid in the ‘50’s Howe was English Canada’s hockey hero,,, Richard (we pronounced it “Ritcherd” instead of “Reeshar”) was French Canada’s. There was a lot of "frog" and "peasoup" talk back then,,,, how stupid.

Well, we had our English bigots in Montreal. Dad witnessed a fender-bender where the English driver blurted out, "And he can't even speak English!"

We were sort of anti-Semitic, too. Jewish jokes were common. But I had a summer job with a Jewish organization and came to really respect them. Then I used to take my classes to Beth Tzedec Synagogue in Toronto, which was an eye-opener for them. I had two incidents when I was teaching. One kid refused to wear the kippah in the sanctuary. He said his father told him he didn't have to wear it. I kept him out and it still burns me up to this day. And in my second-last year a parent objected to my principal that I was "teaching the Jewish religion" (or words to that effect) in Religion class. She was Polish. Holocaust victims returning to their towns in Poland were sometimes murdered by the locals.
