This popped up on my Facebook feed; apparently "the Riverton Rifle" had a birthday yesterday.  It reminded me of the exhibition (?)  game (?) we played (?) against the Bombers to commemorate  (?) the [belated] opening of the Centennial Arena in Swanee River.  As I recall it ended up 19 -0* [or thereabouts].

I’m not sure, but I might’ve told yooz guys about the TeePees(!) and their colourful play-by-play announcer Rex Stimers, who liked to hoist a few during his broadcasts.
This from a 2016 article from “50 Years Ago in Hockey”....
"Rex Stimers, one of the all-time great junior hockey broadcasters, has passed away at the age of 65.

Stimers was a sports announcer at St. Catharines radio station CKTB for over 30 years and was famous for broadcasting junior games over that time period. He also made a name for himself for his play-by-play of Royal Canadian Regatta in recent years.

Stimers was a flamboyant radio man, with a style that could both thrill and infuriate the listener. He never avoided controversy and was free with his opinions. He coined the phrase “A 10-bell save” when describing a great stop by a goalkeeper.

Born in Toronto, Stimers never had any great affinity for his home town. Often, when asked what he liked about Toronto his reply was:

The best thing about Toronto was the train that took me to St. Catharines.”

It reminds me of the line, from the time T.O. was known for its smog, "I was born in Toronto but I didn't see the light of day until I moved to Montreal."

On clear days we could look across Lake Ontario from the St. Catharines side 32 miles away and see the Royal York Hotel **,, , that was in the 1950’s. Then later the Toronto-Dominion Bank Tower, and of course now the many skyscrapers on the T.O. skyline. The annual air show at the CNE was great,, some of the planes buzzed over the lake nearby. (btw, we always figured Buffalo had better skyscrapers)

The best air show view I ever saw was right after our Kingston Velo Club ride on Wolfe Island. After the obligatory ice cream stop, we boarded the ferry to head back to Kingston. The ferry got out into the lake and then just marked time on the spot. The Snowbirds were doing their show right overhead. We were out on the water with no buildings or trees to obstruct the view. A good ride, ice cream, and entertainment - what a day!

Another goodun in the Giants-Padres game on in the background.  They're doing an in-game interview with Blake Snell.  A Giant batter nubs one that's bobbed by the Padres' pitcher.... and as expected the batter is safely on first easily enuff.  Snell deadpans: "I dunno why he was running so hard... he had lots of time."

I'm afraid that they'll be BSing about the 1993 team in 2043. It's a good thing I won't be around to commiserate.
