Especially a very hot goalie (Sawchuck) who kept them in the last game. The Habs had 41 shots on goal and the Maple Cheese scored an empty-netter for the 3-1 win.

I might have to adjust the aspect ratio on my TV.  Kotkaniemi always struck me as a bit scrawney looking, so I consulted my go-to source, <hockeydb.com> and see that he has an inch height and an 8 pound weight advantage over McDavid, so I don't see why he can't show C.M. the error of his ways sometime in the foreseeable future.

Having said that, I like watching McDavid's quickness, make seeing-eye passes and get himself into position to take a pass and get a shot off.  Reminds me of Crosby.  Heck, if he was in  Habs uniform he'd probably be 'way better'n Crosby. 

So, should he have gotten a major or a bigger fine? ...or neither? ... or both?

As for the Con man, he’s like Orr,, way,way better than anyone else as far as skating & speed, along with the good hands.
Toothless Bobby Clarke, the ex FF Bomber, once said about Orr “ it’s like he should be playing in the next league higher than the NHL”.

As for Connor, I don't know much about him except he's, uh, exceptional. I never figured him for a cheap shot artist. Of course, top players suffer clutch, grab, and chop issues from slower players, and the frustration can boil over. I hope this infraction is a one-off. But the refs and the league should do more. And the league needs to bring in a stiffer maximum penalty.

KK is a whole eight pounds heavier? Wow! And a whole inch taller? Man, he's Godzilla compared to McD! He should be able to crush him like a pop can!

Fwiw, it did look like a cheap shot to me.  I've only heard the  expert analysts mention "frustration," with no mention of pay-back for something previously said or done.  Heck, maybe in one of the requisite after-the-whistle scrums J.K. invited C.M. out for beer and pizza, but spoke Finnish instead of da Henglish and  via "lost in translation" C.M. heard it as a slight?? 

I guess theoretically one is one too many, but have cheap shots reached the point of needing something more/different be done?  Nobody asked, but I think the checking/charging/boarding, ostensibly done to "separate the player from the puck" or "finish the check" or simply because a player "had his head down," should be higher up on the "to do" list.

I love* that "he shoulda kept his head up" comment, as if the victim is to blame for the infraction.

... fwiw, my Facebook feed today tells me that yesterday's date in 1971 was when a couple of good ones reached milestones...Howe  played his last regular season game for the Wings, ditto Beliveau w/Canadiens.   [From '73 to '80 Howe went on to play another 500 of his WHA/NHL total of 2186 games ..... apparently the average length of an NHL career is about 360 games.]

We've had brothers - the Richards and Mahovliches come to mind (of course, les Habs), but fathers and sons? (Did any Sutterbrothers play on the same team?)

btw, I almost got to play with Chico,,, when he retired he almost joined the Simcoe Chiefs of the OHA Intermedate B league. I was playing for them at the time (1973) , it would have been a huge thrill. Ex-NHL'er Roy Edwards was tending the net for Caledonia.

....and now that you mention Eddie and Shaq, one of my sisters was in Hudson Bay, SK, when he/they/?? and some team of All-Stars or Has-Beens played the yocal sr./intermediate team [no slouch in the region, btw] in a charity match of some sort.   She said even the guys like #23, not known for their "hands," would make the yocals look a little inept at "keep away" and the la-dee-da stuff.

Some teams in our North Central League have an ex-pro or two on their rosters [well, back when they had rosters, pre-Covid].  I'm always impressed with their anticipation, and how calm/confident they are with the puck [i.e. "You and I both know you're not takin' the puck away from me!"].

Our (Loyola College) hockey team once played the Canadiens old timers. The Warriors were a team on the rise, eventually headed for the national finals (even beating perennial champs U of T 1-0 in overtime in the semi). They potted a few goals and were looking kinda hot until the old guys turned it up a notch or three and showed how smoooooth they could be, and it was a clinic from then on. I forget the score, but the old boys won. Sort of like the guy who ropes you into a round of pool or poker, who suckers you in by losing the first game. Good thing nobody took bets.

Loyola became Concordia in '74 and the Stingers are habitual wannabes (but the women's team is always competitive).

There were nine of us (two women) in our department's graduating class and we iced a hockey team for fun. Not that we could actually play.

The few ex-juniors and pros that I played with or against were confident and calm for sure,,, they were used to much faster hockey and a lot less time to make decisions. We had a guy on defence in Simcoe who had played Tier 2 Junior, and some minor pro, ,, I came down the wing one time during practice with the puck in full stride , thought I had a step on him as I tried to whip by him,, nothin’ doing - he deftly “draped” me along the boards for about 15 feet. (I still have the burn marks on my left side)

Baylor 86 / Gonzaga 70.         I hadn't watched college ball this year until March Madness, so I wouldn't call myself particularly knowledgeable, but I had it figured that Gonzaga was gonna do the deed.    All in all an entertaining tournament.

We just recently switched from satellite to cable, and I'm still trying to figure it out..... thought for a brief moment there maybe I'd missed the Frozen Four, but ... I'm in luck... April 8/10.
