Hall has indeed made is impact felt here in Noo Wingland. He's turned the second line from decent to fabulous.

I'm thinking the B's should have a sit down with Tuuka (now at end of contract) at the end of the season and say "Dude, it's been nice, but if you wanna stick around here the offer is $3 million on renewable one-year deals. Fact is, we already know who your replacement is."*

And then take the rest of the money and sign Hall for five years. They should see who/what they can get for Jake DeBrusk while they're at it.

The roster was CHL players, with ONE from the Alberta Junior League.   Which brings me to a hypothetical question:  Whether a comparable team could have been assembled from the Junior "A" ranks..... currently 117 teams https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Junior_Hockey_League .... so there must be at least 25 "good enough" players hiding in there....

In 1993 (?) while at the World Junior Baseball Tournament in Brandon I was BSing with one of the US coaches.  I asked how many teams of a comparable level they could assemble.  He said: "Ah, ten?" then thought for a few seconds and added "Nah, we could get ten like this in California."

A year or two back, Buck was "explaining" what's involved in a pitcher having command of his pitches: "It's more than control.... it's.... it's .... it's command." And last week some other dude on some game or other was commenting that some pitcher or other "...had lost control of his command." 

 I've got a suggestion for you Chuck. Since you're probably on a first name basis with Tabler, it seems to me that it would be a good idea for  you call/email him and ask him give the definitive explanation?

#4 had the sense to turn down the offer. It would be hard to imagine him hangin; with the snobs and political wannabes. He wasn't the most gregarious person, so I don't suppose schmoozing would have been to his liking. He would have had a nice house, though.

Yup, it's interesting to see a couple pf future politicians in that pic. Dryden went the farthest, becoming an author, even writing a book about education. I think he'd be interesting to know.

We all have to dispose of our treasures. We're just the custodians. I'm pondering where my instruments will go. I know where most of the paintings will end up, but I'm considering moving a couple to a specific place as a donation. But it needs to be cleared with the staff, er, Mrs. Frank M, collected paintings. We have one by an artist he liked, Tom Roberts.

Speaking of big Frank, Dryden in his book talks about the 1972 Summit Series and how Frank got kind of weird and creeped out over in Russia. Apparently his brother Pete explained that his older brother as a kid had heard the horror stories from the family about living behind the Iron Curtain, being Yugoslavian and all. 

Well, historically speaking, Yugoslavia was more open to the West than the other Eastern Bloc countries. But that doesn't mean that there weren't horrible things happening. When WWII ended, the British handed over thousands of anti-Tito troops to the Communist government. I imagine a good many of them didn't survive.

BTW,, I had the pleasure of meeting Ken Dryden around 1983 on a TTC streetcar. We had to stand it was packed coming from a BooYays game, going up Bathurst. I noticed him and struck up a conversation on the QT, not wanting to get him hounded by autograph seekers, although in close quarters like that I’m sure others heard us. Anyway, he had his boy with him,, said it was the first live MLB ballgame the lad had attended.
