..... ^^ that's an example of where we need a "1/2 like" button. I agree with the "doesn't look good on" part, but unless Muckler has done a lot of extraordinarily good stuff, I'll with hold my RIP for now..... regardless of whether there is, or isn't, a next life..... ooops! ....... [insert 20 second break] ........... okay, we're good to go now..... just got my wife to come over and slap my wrist.

Well, with a family of 12 they likely lived by the creed “put more water in the soup”.

Maybe by their standards our family was eating "manhandler" soup..... only 9 of us urchins [but by the time the last 2 were out of high-chairs, the oldest might have been ready to fly/flee/flew the coop]. We had one of those ubiquitous chrome-and-formica tables.... with however many extensions it came with. Mom and Dad at the ends.... bigger kids on chairs along one side.... smaller kids on a bench along the back. If one of us smaller ones had to leave the table he'd just slide down and then just crawl out underneath. One time somebody asked Mom how she figured how much food to cook.... she explained that it was very simple: she just took her biggest pots and filled them up.
It may have been Jean Rattelle of the Rangers who said he went with NY after realizing that French wasn't the language spoken in the Habs' dressing room. The Flying Frenchmen spoke English.
And Jeff "Dish" Petry sealed the Nucks' fate with an empty netter yesterday.

After a game. during which Koivu scored a "highlight reel" goal, MD made a remark about the nifty celebratory move Saku made after he scored. Then Saku was interviewed. When the interviewer mentioned MD's comment, Koivu responded, "Didn't he like the move I made to score the goal?"
"Spockian-eyebrowed" I do declare, Chuck, your prose is becoming quite Gallivanesque.

I was brought up with Gallivan's play-by-play every Saturday night (in living black and white). The exception came when the Habs would go on the road and the Ice Capades or Ice Follies would take over the Forum. Then they'd give us the Leafs game with boring Foster Hewitt. ZZZZZZZZZ. I perked up one time when a Leafs' goal was disallowed because, as Hewitt so "scintillatingly" put it, "...the puck didn't went into the net." Sheesh.
...as for hard-to-pronounce names, how about Myszczyszyn? There was a colleague with that name when I started teaching. If a student came to the staffroom over noon hour and asked for Miss Myszczyszyn, there was one guy on staff who pretended he didn't hear it clearly, and would have the student stumble through it a couple of times before calling Miss Myszczyszyn to the door. Btw, the guy wasn't me, and once you know, it isn't particularly difficult: Muh-zi-shen.
I also heard a story [which I haven't confirmed] that at one time the F.F. Bombers had a guy on staff whose name was something like Johnny Oklobczyczuk. The player [of Ukrainian/Polish/??? heritage] that told me the story said that the team commonly referred to him as Johnny Alphabet.

...and for innovative vocabulary... early in the Jets-Flames game the Flames are coming in 2-on-1 and Kevin Sawyer would have us believe that Gaudreau distributed the puck to Dube. What the??!!?!? I'm sure I saw him pass it over!
But, as shots no longer get deflected... for several years now they've been getting redirected... I guess I shouldn't allow my knickers to get too tightly knotted. But ya gotta admit, distributing the puck and redirecting a shot sounds 'w-a-y more sophisticated/erudite. ![]()
You're making me work 'way too hard Chuck.... had to consult the all-knowing Google, both German-to-English and English-to-German, but I think I've got it! ....although I'm still not sure whether line is lein or linie. [Decades back I I was able to recite grace in German .... mind you strictly rote phonics ... at the boarding house run by a German couple.]
Sawyer came up with another doozy: "The Flames often inject their defence into the rush." But, otoh, Dennis Beyak might be positioning himself to challenge D.G. .... on a real good glove save by Markstrom, he came up with "leather larceny."
Rex Stimers, a notorious imbiber, used to do play-by-play for the TeePees (remember them ?!). He came up with the “5, 10, 15, and 20 bell saves”. By the end of the third period his sidekick/pinch hitter Tommy Garriock often had to take over as Rex was too far into his cups. Roger Crozier wore out the 20-bell save designation.

How about Als player Randy Rhino? Great for wildlife procreation, maybe (one species).

Maybe ^^ was part of the job description?? As a kid I listened to "Cactus Jack" Wells and his spotter Moe Simovitch doing Blue Bombers games. He frequently cautioned Moe to be careful not to bump/spill the "Coke" (TM). His math deteriorated as the game progressed.... "1st. and 10 / the Lincoln Locomotive churns out 6 yards / Bombers facing a second and 8." But the BBs never played a dull game!!
This snippet "He [i.e. CJW] was dismayed one time to learn that an eastern sports announcer had a rule that he’d fire any member ot his crew who took a drink after midnight on the night preceding a football telecast. “On our show.” said Wells civilly, "they're fired if they don't.” is taken from this '59 MacLean's article https://archive.macleans.ca/article/1959/8/15/winnipegs-maverick-of-the-sports-mike
