Our part of Toronto was referred to as "Puke Town" because of all the Poles and Ukrainians who settled there after WWII. And the two groups "didn't care for" each other.

"Bibbles" Bawel. I always heard it as "Bibbles Bobble". https://www.cfl.ca/2008/11/07/the-story-of-the-1957-grey-cup/

A drunk lawyer became a judge. In Ontario, of course.

....geez, Paul, I dunno.  Maybe it depends on whether  "He was a little bit inebriated, I think.   Well, maybe not a little bit.” was viewed as a moral failing or a medical issue.  If it was the former, which I think likely had more traction back then, then it seems to me to be a good example of the "separation of church and state."    [Thanks for the link.... I too thought it was Bobble.]

So far as I know there was no unusual animosity between the Ps and the Us in our rural area.... I suppose "they" knew the diff, but as the non-U/Ps were the obvious majority, they/we probably didn't bother making the distinction.   I do recall my dad mentioning something or other about "Galatians" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galatians_(people) but he either wasn't talking to me or I had other things to think about.

In Barry Broadfoot's book The Pioneer Years 1895 -1914 he devotes a chapter to: "They came. Polish, Ruthenians, Russians, Rumanians, all the others from that huge area we now refer to as being behind the iron curtain.  The Canadians, the English, the Americans, the Scandinavians, and the Germans referred to themselves as "white" and the newcomers as "foreigners."

Back in St. Catharines, home of the TeePees (have I mentioned them lately...?), we played in the city soccer league with teams representing their ancestral homes - Arsenal : England ,, Club Roma : Italy,, Thistle : Scotland ,, Club Heidelberg : Germany ,, Dutch-Canadians: Netherlands ,, Polish Legion: Poland.
No Euchre-anian team,, (nor Abyssinia or Burma, btw)

It's a good thing we didn't use that ^^ method back in Togo, SK [birthplace of both Ted Hampson https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=2121 yes  and Mr. Owen... sorry, no hockeydb link currently available  crying ].    I tried to recall our pee-wee hockey team, and if we'd been split up, everybody would have gotten plenty of ice time.... British? = 6ish, Ukrainian/Polish/???  = 4?, German = 3?, Chinese = 1.

...cut and pasted from being erroneously posted in the Whirlpool appliance thread   sad :

"Edit: ... and furthermore Wisconsin at Minnesota on TSN .... or Boston at Philly..... hmmmm...  probably back-and-forth along with some TMITMITM."

BUT.... the Minnesota uniforms are mong the ugliest I can recall [i.e. rival the old Canucks "V" and some of those cringe-worthy retro, striped "things."]    They're not making this easy!!!

I think the Habs' blue uniforms were a contributing factor in their ugly loss to the Sens last night.

The Price is not right lately.

But if they wore this one, I'd be fine with it.

GAG* indeed    yes    .... Ratelle/Hadfield/Gilbert: https://bluelinestation.com/2016/10/12/new-york-rangers-memories-gag-line-1972-legendary/

I think the problem with the Gophers' sweaters is trying to use yellow/gold on white... a tricky (?) proposition at any time.  I think either gold or maroon shoulder inserts would be a big improvement, and probably make them passable.   4-1 for Wisc. tonight, so I guess the hockey gods took note of it.

It reminds me of 'w-a-y back when somebody (?) thought it would be a good idea for the UofM Bison basketball team to have gold lettering on white tops.... oops! first game happened to be televised and reading them on TV was even more problematic than in person.  They remedied it by removing the numbers and adding a dark brown piping/border.... but to my mind that's something that should have been learned by osmosis long before adulthood.   Hmmmmm... come to think of it, how come 50 years on we still see signs with yellow-on-white lettering [often in words with different colours for each letter]???

* = and just for that comment Paul, I'm gonna add a "like" to Chuck's post.  cheeky

1/3 of GAG , front row, 2nd from right,,,, beside him on left Ray Cullen,, Roger Crozier on far left , front row. Chico Maki, Captain, above Hadfield. Others are Doug Jarrett, Pat Stapleton, Doug Robinson, Duke Harris. Oh, did I tell you the TeePees won 2/two Memorial Cups when I was a tad shorter than a banjo string?

I'm gonna hafta pay more attention... I wasn't even aware that the Habs had blue uniforms!  To me they aren't particularly bad, just ho-hum, run-of-the-mill, like many others..... not to be confused with their regular "classy" ones.

I guess I'm also not particularly "up" on the appearances of most of the guys in the TeePee's* pic, although Stapleton is easy enough to pick out, and once you point out Hadfield..... .   And it looks like some guy in the back row borrowed Pilous's fedora (?).

* = My memory isn't what it usd to be Chuck.... didn't the TPs win something-or-other some years back?  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZEyvwhjcFk

The fedora-wearing man is/was the coach Max Kaminsky,,Pilous was already coaching Chicago. Maybe that's him in the blacked-out section between Bill Speer & Carlo Longerini.
(no time for Bob & Ray)

Yep.    Too many people hone in on insignificant stuff like "those people" and OTGAO, but don't give him credit for important stuff... like advancing the use of the term "wobbly pop."   cheeky

In your ^^ scenario who would be having the wine?   Back when I was young(er) and foolish(er), "we" used to refer to drinking wine as "...a bit of "culture" ...even if/when it was Baby Duck (TM) without the benefit (?) of a glass.

I mentioned the wine cuz that’s McLean’s drink of choice,,,loudly poo-poo’d by MD/DC on a Crotch’s Corner segment a number of years ago. No fancy-pants la-dee-da , just a good Canad’yun beer, eh !

I figure we could do with a break from all the heavy, intellectual  stuff that DC/MD's pronouncements provoke.   This popped up on my Facebook feed this a.m.:

There was a cartoon way back then, of a family standing watching Dryden on TV. Dad's leaning on a shovel, Mom's leaning on a broom, the kids are leaning on something I can't remember, and the dog is leaning on a bone.
