Like I said previously: "I wouldn't hold him to any higher standard w.r.t. loyalty than any other player/manager/owner/etc. .... maybe Bichette could be the yardstick." and "It seems not at all unusual for players to somehow get traded to a "contending team" as their careers wind down and they haven't won a Stanley Cup. What about their loyalty?"
Fwiw, the but in, "I don't blame the guy for getting the most financial bang for the buck that he can, but he does give the impression of being more concerned about the benjamins than the location." sounds very much like the but in, "This is none of my business, but .............etc. ."
Sheesh, Owen,, with that attitude maybe we shouldn't comment on any player re his performance, choice of beer, girlfriend, lack of motivation, model car he drives, when he takes a dump, etc.
Nothing wrong with musing, IMNSHumbleO. And nothing wrong* with wondering/asking about the basis for the musings, IMNSHumbleO. And maybe even subjective standards are okay, so long as they aren't selectively applied.... IMNSHumbleO, of course.
* or misguided????
In the Jets/Vegas game Kolesar checked Fluery [appeared to be fair, legit, etc.] but Fleury slid into the boards and was stretchered off .... thankfully early reports are very encouraging. However, before play resumed Lowry and Kolesar had a brief conversation, followed by a brief exchange of punches. Kevin Sawyer stated that "He had no problem with that, as it was bigger than Kolesar, and it was bigger than Lowry." Alas, nobody explained what "it" was.
Another thing I've sometimes wondered about, and think [i.e. I'm not sure] I saw in this game was a collision where the Vegas players stick flew up into the air >> the Jets player appeared to catch it mid-air and hand it back to the Vegas player. The announcers made no mention of it, and it was kinda in the corner of the screen plus outa the corner of my eye, so, like I say, I'm not sure. Nonetheless, interesting.... IF it did happen.

“It” is likely te code word for “the code”.
- giving wayward sticks back to an opposing player?? ,,, whatever happened to the goodle daze when guys like Johnny McKenzie (ex-Nanton Flash, ex-TeePee) would go into the corner with some lumbering defenceman and proceed to step on his stick blade, accidentally on purpose, smashing it and rendering the poor slowfoot without any means to execute an OTGAO…..
A big tilt ,, Reeves came out later to play the third. D’ya think he shoulda called it a night,, re concussion protocol?

Another with Olivier,,, d’ya think Olivier’s yapping in the box at the end cuz he was ticked that Lucic wanted to fight him at the end of his shift?

On one hand promoting the b.s. I mentioned ^^ , while trying to make it look like they're trying to reduce concussions*... it's not the good that they do that's b.s. ,,,, it's the counterproductive stuff that's the b.s. [Kinda like our yocal government whose deeds don't match their words re. recycle/repurpose/reuse...... I'm not up on the current jargon, but come to think of it, isn't that what's called "virtue signaling"?]
* However it is quite possible that the league isn't concerned about the rate of occurrence so much as limiting their $$ liability. I.e. concussions per se aren't necessarily bad .... but costing us $$ ....now that's bad.
Why don’t players just sign a waiver then, relieving the league of any responsibility?
It's not a secret that the league thrives on hockey fights , but I believe that the concussion protocol - checking the player after blows to the head - is a legitimate safety procedure. If cynical, one could say the league office thinks "we need that fighter/enforcer around for a while cuz he puts bums in seats".
As for the much-maligned plastics recycling by oil people , calling it virtue-signaling, to me it's the pot calling the kettle black. Almost everyone overstates the "wonderful work we're doing" these days,,, (Marshal McLuhan , anyone?)

I guess that ^^ would be a question for the players/players union and the league.
My limited non-legal understanding is that frequently "waivers" aren't as legally-binding, or as all-encompassing, as Joe Schmuck* assumes they are, and the authorities don't mind using people's ignorance to the authority's advantage. [Fwiw, as a teacher, we were told that a parent can not absolve a school of negligent behaviour.... I assume that that has a wide application.]
* One of Owen's close relatives..... but he's no lawyer either. ![]()
Marshal McLuhan .......... was he a bluegrasser, or more into OT/clawhammer? ![]()
So here ya have it…. this code thing between “enforcers” is just too weird for me

I wouldn't hold him to any higher standard w.r.t. loyalty than any other player/manager/owner/etc. .... maybe Bichette could be the yardstick.
* I sure hope he wasn't drinking and then making a pass at some network publicity executive!!!!!!!! [Ya, r-i-gh-t.
]
Which brings to mind the long term signings of some young Canadiens players, for less than what some "experts" think they could have gotten*, a bargoon for management - not to mention the steals they got in trades/waivers (Texier, anyone?), and the drafts they've made.
* I think it reflects a commitment, on the part of the players, to stick with a team that they feel has a future. There certainly seems to be a team mentality there.
Can there be an off-side if/when the puck does NOT cross the blue line into the offensive zone?
The scenario I have in mind is: a) A player is in possession in his offensive zone. b) He attempts a pass along the line to a team mate also in the offensive zone. c) The [errant] pass goes sorta along the line, but goes outside the offensive zone. d) The team mate who is still in the offensive zone receives the pass, but the puck is now in, and remains in, the neutral zone.
Whats' the correct call [or non-call]?
In the scenario I described ^^, "the puck [...] remains in the neutral zone." [It's NOT a case of "preceeding the puck into...." , because the puck doesn't go into the offensive zone.]
It was called off-side twice in last nite's SaskEast game [Langenburg 9 - Russell 1] and I've seen it in a couple of other games this season. I didn't notice any players/coaches/fans act as if everything wasn't copacetic.
Why would he have to skate into the neutral zone? Is there anything in the rules that says he couldn't he diddle with the puck in the neutral zone and his skates in the offensive zone until the cows came home? [I.e. Wouldn't the linesman have to wait until after the puck crossed the line into the offensive zone in order to make a call? ]

Hmm, in your op you said da puck went outta da offensive zone due to an errant pass,, & yep, I think he could reach over da line an' "diddle" ? ? da puck til Jonny came marching home. At that point I'd say he was raggin' da biscuit to let his komrads tag up , then re-storm da barricades

So, that part of the off-side rule remains as it was when you were lighting the lamp with regularity in Red Lake?
They never gave him time to rag da biscuit .... blew it off-side the instant he touched it.
What makes me "wonder" is that nobody said boo* [and it isn't a one-off] ... guess I'm gonna have to hunt down the one referee that I do know. [He didn't do last nite's game, but did one a couple of games back. I was sitting next to a couple from a couple of towns down the road and they remarked how he "... liked to make sure everybody knew HE was in charge." He seems pretty knowledgeable and fair, though I did "second" their assessment. He also umps biesbol.]
* or even worse!!

Unlikely to starve. Reading about all this, I think of the banjos I could purchase if I had that kind of income!
