There was a fair amount of discussion on hockey-oriented X about this incident. Most of the reaction was "Really? He got suspended for THAT?"

If anyone should have been suspended, it was whoever was running the audio board.

Why? Did he make the remark?

With all the hot mic and video incidents we've heard/seen in the last several years, people in those positions should know better.

You know it’s the Super Wolf Moon this weekend when a guy named Fraser, whose hometown is Vancouver hard by the Fraser River, scores the winning goal in overtime against the Canucks right in their own barn….. and don’t tell me it’s because of those chemtrails either….

He's a wonderful young player, so much fun to watch. Mad skillz - and in a year or two the debate is going to be whether Schaefer or Makar is the best D player in the league.

That said: even though the comparisons are often made, neither of them is another Orr. For a simple reason: they play the position as well as it can possibly be played. But Orr CHANGED how the position is played, and thus changed the entire game along with it.

Orr wasn't just a great talent - he was a revolutionary. I'm not sure that anyone in the league today can lay claim to such.

To me, the intriguing question is purely speculative. Given how Orr changed the game and that the impact of those changes is still seen: If we could somehow transport Orr in his prime to today's game, how would he stack up against Makar or Schaefer... or any other current top-10 D? It must be remembered that the art of goaltending has improved dramatically since then...

There's some weirda$$ juju going on with my Broons this year, for certain.

10pm puckdrops are a non-starter for this Noo Wingland lad, so I merely have to read about the game and watch the highlight reels. That said, Minten is fitting right in with the Broons. When Sweeney had his fire sale last spring and sent Brandon Carlo to Toronto, he picked up a first-round 2026 pick and Minten (plus some loose change). Minten was CLEARLY the prize Sweeney was looking for with that trade - the first-rounder was merely frosting on the cake. It looks like he may have done the same thing to Colorado when Charlie Coyle was sent to west in exchange for Will Zellers, who just led Team USA scoring at the Junior Nationals.

As I've mentioned before, its getting harder and harder to be mad at Sweeney these days, and whining about Sweeney is one of the joys of being in the northeast. Being unable to do so disrupts the balance of things. And you're correct: chemtrails have nothing to do with it. It's something more mysterious.

Jackie may think Sweeney is dabbling in the dark arts, too.

I think the super wolf moon must have contracted mange.    Actually it was pretty impressive as it first appeared above the horizon, but by the time I went to the rink [Rocanville 5 - Russell 2] it was noticeably less-super.   [And Jackie probably concurs!!]

Now, re. Orr .... would a team of 20 Orrs beat a team of 20 ..... ah, you know the rest.   devil

I've been doing some low level thinking about the improvement in goaltending as I TIM, snack, TIM, etc. with les 'abs and Stars on TV ... and I don't disagree.

But, but, but, that's ^^ led to me wondering whether or not there's been a significant change over the years in the proportion of [and this calls for you to do a decent impersonation of Foster Blewitt or Danny Gallivan]:  "He shoots it at the goalie's chest!! ....... and he hits the goalie in the chest!!"  devil

I've seen a bit of reaction to Stanley not upholding "the code" w.r.t punching Tkaczuk.  I guess I kinda agree... but I can v-e-r-y easily make an exception for an as whole like Tkaczuk.

As shooters with their light, super-flex sticks are able to release quicker and more deceptively than the Rocket or Moose Vasko back in the day, the goalies have had to train harder - as in no more Gumper or Sawchuk hittin' the barrooms til 2am. Bathgate’s slapshot on Plante’s noggin got him wearing a mask,, Andy Brown , who raced stock cars during the summer and lived in an old beach house under the Burlington Skyway, was the last holdout to go bare-faced between the pipes.

Pretty entertaining [wild??] nite at the World Juniors .... I'd have predicted the wrong outcome for both games, so obviously it's a good thing I'm not paid to be an expert analyst.    And I suppose Bertuzzi 3 - Vegas 2 was a Sunday-nite bonus??

Edit: SOG about 3:2 ratio for Czechia ..... It didn't look that bad, but I guess being significantly outshot typically isn't a recipe for success...... though for any particular game I guess it's not the kiss of death either.

Edit #2: And 1 game for Stanley is one game too many, IMNSHumbleO.

The Canadian kids were outmatched tonight,, another game could be the opposite but ya only gits one shot at it in these tourneys.
Bertuzzi seems to have “found his game” the last couple of years,, kind of sneaky good. Never underestimate those guys from Sudbury,,, remember Jerry Toppazzini,, or Eddie Shack …? ha

Stanley giving a sucker punch to a Tkachuk ? ,,,, tsk, tsk

The thing I find annoying about Bertuzzi is that he seems to operate with a mercenary's mindset - best short-term deal he can get (or is offered) and then on to the next. No apparent loyalty to any team or fan base. Good player, and us Broons fans were delighted by his short stint here... but that's a chapter (and book) that's now over.

As y'all know I don't follow ^^ particularly closely.   What immature  behaviour[either on-ice or off-ice] has Bertuzzi been up to? *   I see last year his +/- was -39, and though that doesn't sound particularly impressive maybe that's what $5.5 million gets you nowadays??  I wouldn't hold him to any higher standard w.r.t. loyalty than any other player/manager/owner/etc.  .... maybe Bichette could be the yardstick.

* I sure hope he wasn't drinking and then making a pass at some network publicity executive!!!!!!!!   [Ya, r-i-gh-t. wink]

Well, I’m not sure if immaturity is the right word,, I can’t read his mind, o’ course. I’m thinking more along the lines of sticking with a team to help build it up,, maybe looking at long term benefits,, maybe being less selfish, if he is that. Yep, -39 is poor, but he was on a last place team, and his job is offence. I always grumble when a goalie’s stats, (re Andy Brown, for instance) are thrown out there as weak even though the guy was standing on his head every night because of poor defence in front o’ him.

Yep...^^  pretty good one.  At the opposite end of the spectrum from the v-e-r-y upchuck-worthy one [or more than one?]  the CIBC has about "IF McDavid and/or Bedard  wanted to be  ____________ CIBC would be there __________   etc."    That's not verbatim, as I can't force myself to NOT change the channel .... I realize that moving so quickly without any warm-up or stretching could lead to soft-tissue or joint injury, but figure it's worth the risk.

Uncle Nick and Bertuzzi crossed paths in Boston, when Bertuzzi was a rental. The impact appears to have been minimal.

Doesn't appear that anything stuck back then. Disclaimer: I'm a BIG fan of Uncle Nick.

What's the knock on Bertuzzi's play?

From the limited stuff I've seen, he looks to be a hard-worker ... and for bonus points, it looks like he's enjoying himself. yes

I dunno.... do his team mates [or his employer] question his loyalty?

It seems not at all unusual for players to somehow get traded to a "contending team" as their careers wind down and they haven't won a Stanley Cup.  What about their loyalty?

Where's Shane Doan* when ya need him? ..... 21 years ... ZEE-RO cups?

Fwiw, hockeydb.com tells me Uncle Nick is with his fifth team.

* Initially I was thinking Bill Gadsby, but then hockeydb tells me the ungrateful whelp played for 3 teams.  no

Bertuzzi came into Boston on an expiring contract as a rental (with a potential to sign extension) at the end of the 22-23 season. He played well, and Boston loved him. He and/or his agent thought he was worth a LOT more than the team did. He floated a while that summer before finally signing a one-year deal with Toronto for a lot less in terms of salary and term than he was reported to be seeking. He then signed a four-year deal with Chicago for the same AAV as Toronto paid him (and not that far above what the Bruins were willing to cough up. Now that he's 30 and in the first year of that contract, that was probably his last serious payday. I don't blame the guy for getting the most financial bang for the buck that he can, but he does give the impression of being more concerned about the benjamins than the location.

RE Uncle Nick: yes, he's on his fifth team. But also consider that he's 38 and has been captain of TWO of those teams (Columbus and Detroit). Uncle Nick indeed shows loyalty.

Is there more than one standard?   .... or the selective application of a standard?

Like I said previously:  "I wouldn't hold him to any higher standard w.r.t. loyalty than any other player/manager/owner/etc.  .... maybe Bichette could be the yardstick." and "It seems not at all unusual for players to somehow get traded to a "contending team" as their careers wind down and they haven't won a Stanley Cup. What about their loyalty?"

Fwiw, the but in, "I don't blame the guy for getting the most financial bang for the buck that he can, but he does give the impression of being more concerned about the benjamins than the location." sounds very much like the but in, "This is none of my business, but .............etc. ."  devil
