I can accept "melee." And yes, it's PURELY because of the music, because as melees go, it's not even in the same time zone as, say, the classic Broons/Rangers Shoe Beatin' Incident from lo those many years ago...

My memorable hockey fight was decades ago at the old Hamilton Forum, back when there was only one/1 penalty box. Garry MacMillan of The St. Catharines Blackhawks and a Hamilton Red Wing player each got 5 minutes for fighting. A cop sat between them in the box but - and who coulda predicted this? lol … - they started throwing jabs behind the cop’s neck/head, knocking his hat off. So, obviously, the cop reaches down to pick it up and then they really go at it over his back and the cop can’t get back up. Mayhem ensued until other constables on patrol and forum security restored order.

So, I drifted to the “whatever happened to so & so” department and found this. Gotta love a guy who toiled in the low minors for years with one reprieve with the Providence Rhode Island Reds. (yeah, 5’ 8” and 190 lbs,,, sort of a Stan Jonathan type)

In other sports hi ( or low to some) lites, Ernie Clement, a Rochester, NY native and super BooYay infielder, beats the drum for the Sabres, likely riling up Laff fans clamouring for his head.

A couple of instances of "music setting the scene" come to my mind .... and that's no mean feat considering how far back they took place. 

I went to most of the Canadian Nats games when they were based in Winnipeg.  A somewhat ragtag group of engineering students donned their faculty jackets, and  billing themselves as the UofM Engineering Band would "perform" (??) up in a corner of the old Winnipeg Arena.  Once in a while they'd tootle out the "Molson Canadian lager beer" jingle and .......... "somebody" would send a round of beer up to them.

The other one I recall is a benefit game for one of the Nats who'd gotten an eye poked out.  Maurice Richard was a celebrity referee, and when the three officials skated out for introductions the organist played "Three Blind Mice."

Garden City Arena would play distorted recordings of Sousa marches during intermissions, driving a lot of fans out to the parking lot for a quick nip o’ da grog.

There was a fair amount of discussion on hockey-oriented X about this incident. Most of the reaction was "Really? He got suspended for THAT?"

If anyone should have been suspended, it was whoever was running the audio board.

"... asked to leave the game."   Works for me... apparently [obviously??] the guy has a way with words.

The lone American was Al Bentley from,,,,,, wait for it…….. North Providence, Rhode Island. He played in 11 games that season.

Pretty impressive [i.e. his playing, not necessarily the hype connecting military might  and pro sports... though I guess that's for another time/place.]

Edit: And what's with the [b.s.] idea behind having all teams at a tournament [Spengler Cup, fer instance] wearing the same uniform "design"?  ... and so much advertising that it's hard to pick out the player's name?   .... and having the US team with so much white they kinda blended in with the ice surface [esp. when the "reflection" from the arena lights came into play?

Watching Islanders/BlueJackets ,, this Schaefer kid (from Hamilton) sure had a tough start to his career.
 

I wouldn't be surprised if K.S. was thinking "they rank 29th." but it just came out ^^ way.  As a loyal lackey of/for the Jets K.S. seems to do a bit better when they aren't involved. Go figure.   I'll hold him in even higher regard should  les 'abs score another one.

It just amazes me that Finland, with a population of only 5.6 million, continues to ice very competitive hockey teams against so-called giants like Canada and the USA.

Yep ^^.   Was able to catch the OT, but not Canada vs. Slovakia.   Took in Theodore Buffalos 8 - Russell Rams 4 instead.   I don't follow closely enough to have a worthwhile opinion, but I wonder IF Canada came up with another team, how big/small the gap would be between it and the current team.   Can't find the semi-final pairings, but I think Canada's chances are much improved with the US out.

^^^ ya, but the udder coin of the side is since the Finns beat our toughest rival then I’d say the Canuck kids better have their sticks sharpened from here on in.

I haven't checked into it, but I expect a fair number of ^^ players live/work in Yorkton.   A while back I was talking to the father of a Swan Valley player... he said that the team doesn't practice.... the players all have roots in the valley, but they live/work/study from Brandon to Regina to Saskatoon.   The schedule is mostly weekend games... I think the SaskEast schedule is only 14 games, though I've seen that other leagues play considerably more.   Not like the goodle days!!
