Hughes: along with the injury-prone (?) Thatcher Demko, at least there was some reason to watch the Canucks. May be one of those deals that takes a l-o-n-g time to decide who comes out on top [leaving the business ins-and-outs up to Skip] ... now I guess I'll have to snooze and TIM and channel-hop to Wild games as well.

Stadium Series: Much to-do about nothing; though I don't see the need for special uniforms [aside from $$ to be made] but at least these ones look okay,

I only watched one brief replay, but it looked like a bit of a cross-check to his left shoulder, though he came up holding the right , and fwiw, my remote diagnosis is in agreement ... it did look like how the guys with separated shoulders hold them.
Re. Bouchard, it's not that his other skills are particularly bad, but .... ??? It seems to me [the guy that doesn't follow all that closely] that for several years the Oilers seem to have been looking [hoping?] for that "one big savior" of a defenseman ... i.e. go with one A++ and a bunch of lesser-lights rather than 3 or 4 B+ guys and 1 or two guys that can generally "hold their own."
I due course I expect Skip will reveal the significance (?) of page 159.

An interesting day yesterday, for certain!
The swap between Edmonton and Pittsburgh does make sense to me. Jarry and Skinner are both capable goalies, but both are streaky. I think both needed a change of scenery. Skinner, arguably moreso - Edmonton fans at times look like they're trying to upstage Torontonians when it comes to being abusive to players. At least we Noo Winglanders reserve our dudgeon for the front office (and given how the Broons are doing this season, that's really hard to do right now, which kinda pisses me off).
The Canucks/Wild trade is, to me, a lot more interesting. I'd call it a fair deal. Hughes is arguably the second-best D in the NHL (after Makar). So Minnesota just nailed down a serious stud at the blue line, at least through the end of next season, which makes them much more of a threat - right now, the Central Division is where it's at, what with Colorado, Dallas and Minnesota sitting one-two-three (respectively) in the Division and one-two-five in the Western Conference. That's going to be fun to watch.
On paper, I like the return that Vancouver got. Buium is a developing first-pair D who's good at the back end and great in the opposing zone. I've been a fan since he was playing NCAA. Rossi will be a first- or second-line center with another year or two under his belt. They also got an interesting prospect and a first-round pick. That strikes me as a decent haul in exchange for a guy who was going to walk after next season anyway.
That's on paper. The problem, as I see it from several thousand miles away, is that Vancouver is an almost perpetual charlie foxtrot when it comes to how the team is built and run. There are times it seems that it's a place where promising young careers go to die. I just hope that Buium and Rossi can thrive there, and that the team stays stable enough, for long enough, for them to truly come into their own.
And Jackie almost certainly agrees with me.

Well, it’s plain , after just now listening to Kevin Bieksa (“Bieska” to DC/MD) following Cassie Campbell last evening , that the new byword in hockey circles is “transporting the puck”. So, obviously, and 110% are diminishing in the blather world.

I can't find it, but a week or so back Sportsnet (or maybe TSN??) ran an ad .... I think it was a promo for FIFA's upcoming World Cup broadcasts. A Sportsnet/TSN/?? lacky [maybe James Duthie??] was ostensibly "interviewing" one of Canada's black soccer players. Early on and then at the end the soccer player answered (?) some question/statement or other with: "... get pucks in deep."
Lots of missing/questionable details ^^ [i.e. use your imagination] but, fwiw, I thought it sounded pretty good/funny.
I’ve heard numerous cross-sports references over the years. “knocked it outta da park” being one,, “scrum” is another,, bayzbal catchers playing “goalie”,, “full court press” ,, etc. But OTGAO doesn't work for FIFA....

So, as per usual, a bait&switch, A FB page proclaims "out for the year" getting folks to check if it's for the season or the year 2025. Ridiculous, these misleading headlines.

I pretty much never click on any headlines that appear on Facebook.... IF I want to know more, I'll do an internet search..... I'd like to think it's because I'm a fast learner [cough, cough], but that could well be an approach that others were doing a decade ago.

Nope, I hadn't seen it, but I dunno .... I guess it's a not-sideways* step from the usual let's-gather-round-and-decide-where-we'll-go-for-beer-afterward meetings that follow 'way too many stoppages in play. As a "brawl" [bench-clearing brawls in biesbol notwithstanding] it looked pretty ho-hum** and I listened for the music, but it didn't come thru very clearly .... maybe it's one of those you-had-to-be-there efforts.
* depending on ones YMMV outloook.
** though I gotta give a solid "B" to the announcer for effort.
Edit: But unless I learn otherwise, I do give it a for stemming from the game rather than yet another of those b.s. staged fights.

The sound doesn't come through very well until at least halfway through - but then it becomes obvious: Jose Feliciano's "Feliz Navidad." A song of seasonal joy and festivity to accompany hockey players beating the snot out of each other. What's not to like?
To my mind it's more melee than beating-the-snot-out-of.
W.r.t. the music. I'll concede that sometimes the music can be a perfect fit/enhancement*, and I trust your analysis; however the clip reminds me of some instructional banjo videos I've seen.... the instructor will point out something like, "You will have noticed the forward-reverse roll immediately after the such-and-such .... ." I can slow it down and even with the prompt, I still don't/can't/?? "notice" it. Where did I go wrong?
* in this case, I suspect the music will be 99%+ responsible if/when anybody remembers it ... without the music, it would be "pretty ho-hum."
