Another Nice Mess by Curtis Eller's American Circus

About the Band:

Curtis Eller is a banjo player, songwriter and rock & roll singer. The lifelong show business veteran began performing at the age of seven as a juggler and acrobat, but has since turned to the banjo because that's where the money is. His band, Curtis Eller’s American Circus, has developed a devoted international following based on spellbinding stage performances that combine a dreamlike vision of American history with silent film-style, physical comedy, and explosive rock & roll energy. The iconoclastic troubadour has spent more than two decades relentlessly touring the clubs, theatres and festivals of North America, Europe, and Australia.

About the Album:

Another Nice Mess is the latest phonographic recording by Curtis Eller’s American Circus. The album captures the band in their ragged, retro splendor, as they guide listeners through a sepia-tinged world of tightrope walkers, heavyweight brawlers, Hollywood scream queens, firing squads, fallen soldiers and conscientious objectors.

The songs deal with themes of loss, mourning, hope, and the inevitable passage of time. At the heart of the set is ‘Another Nice Mess': A sentimental waltz about the enduring friendship between Laurel & Hardy. Along the way, the band spends a few fleeting moments with Sonny Liston, Fay Wray, legendary circus performer Lillian Leitzel, and other icons from America's faded past.

Curtis Eller is a banjo player, songwriter and rock & roll singer. A twenty-year show business veteran, Eller and his band The American Circus have developed a devoted international following based on dynamic, highly physical stage performances and an extensive catalog of curious phonographic recordings. The iconoclastic musician has spent more than a decade relentlessly touring the club, theatre and festival stages of a dozen countries in North America and Europe. Eller is a gifted and prolific songwriter who's banjo-driven songs describe a dreamlike vision of American history where all points in time have collapsed into one. The American Circus is diligently at work on a new full-length album on which they have augmented their indelicate, rock & roll rhythms with a tempestuous cloud of horns and an graceless choir of backsliders in their quest to bring Eller's historically evocative compositions to vivid, cinematic life.
