•• Growing up in the Buffalo area, I got the banjo bug (c.1965) from my HS best friend, Clark Barber. After moving to the Albany area , folkie Richard Wilkie gave me my first "frailing" lesson -- on a carved and engraved ODE Grade 4 longneck -- at 1am, after my senior prom (while still in my tuxedo). Pete Seeger and The Kingston Trio were early influences. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• After college, in Syracuse, I worked as a designer for the County history museums. In 1973 I co-founded The Salt City Song Miners folksong club, and later started two different concert series. I acquired my avocation in banjo history and collecting from a few people, including: Tom Hosmer (Tony Trischka's band-mate) ; Mike Holmes (Mugwumps); local tenor-player Dick Sheridan; and the Dean of Banjo Historians -- Dr. Eli Kaufman. I played with the eclectic folk band, "Tinker's Pig", for a couple years. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• I've lived in the Boston area since 1980. As a Product Design Consultant, I help clients to design and develop high-tech equipment and products. I've helped run The Linden Tree Coffeehouse since its 2nd show in 1985, and played with "The Blunt Instruments" for over 15 years. For the last 10 years, I've been having great fun sitting around playing "double banjo" tunes, with Don Borchelt. (You can hear some of them on Don's homepage). •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• David L. Day, designer of the Fairbanks Whyte Laydie and the B&D Silver Bell; and Chuck Ogsbury, founder of ODE and OME; are my banjo-design heroes. I've collaborated with Chuck on the designs for a few banjos for OME (Boulder, CO). I designed the prototype for the OME "Grand Artist Gryphon" (shown in my bio photo) •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• http://www.omebanjos.com/history6.html •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• http://www.omebanjos.com/history7.html •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Edmund Britt & Co. – Product Design & Development _______ •• Wakefield, MA 01880 •• 781-245-3274 •• BrittandCo (at) aol.com
