Had an unexpected total system failure here this past week. Typing this from my new laptop just about 24 hours old now. Unexpected failure + unexpected expense = OUCH.

Hey, Ed! Did you ever get that computer fiasco figured out? A couple of us are wondering if you know when Chuck began adding zero frets. I just bought #1590 which I estimate to be from '64 and she has one. Another possibility is that he put them on for specials and customs although it stands to reason he would have seen the benefit and made it std. practice.
Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave --
Still using my ancient Macs. The info I need to answer your question, is on the DOWN computers -- and I can't access those files. (The disk itself is OK -- so there's no problem with the files. It's a Graphics processor/Flat Screen issue. I got a tax refund -- and I hope to get one of them fixed soon.)
So... I can't pinpoint "when" (at the moment). But I can say that zero frets seemed to be "standard" for a period c1962-63. But they were also intermixed with a standard nut before and after that period -- which suggests a certain amount of 'customer choice' when ordering.
