New Procedures for Ending Classified Ads

We just took live some changes to the classifieds system to help us accomplish these three goals:

  1. Make it easier to end your ads (the old "status" pulldown wasn't exactly clear)
  2. Allow members to rate other members when appropriate (ads marked as being sold/traded with another BHO member will now stay in the system so members can rate other members on that particular ad)
  3. Allow us to better track donations for sold items (donations are now tied to specific ads)

When you want to end your "For Sale" ad now, you're presented with three options:

  • Sold (thru the Banjo Hangout)
  • Sold (thru other means)
  • Not sold, but I want to remove my ad anyway

The first option, when clicked, simply marks it as sold them prompts you with links to make a donation and rate the member involved in the sale. The last two options, when clicked, let you choose whether you want the ad hidden, or deleted permanently.

The new rating system we recently rolled out is working well, but we've found that a lot of members were simply deleting their ads after they sold, which prevented the people they sold the item to from posting a rating. This shouldn't be an issue moving forward, unless a member wants to purposely misinform us, at which point we have bigger issues to deal with anyway.
