I just sent the final draft of my new book "The Best of Jack Hatfield" to the publisher, Mel Bay. It is an anthology of all my best arrangements from previous books but with extra solos added in all three styles (plus pedal point style) and has a section of advanced contest/stage performance arrangements including slow songs, classical, swing and blues riffs. I had to burn test CD's to proof as I went along. I have about 50of these CD's. They feature the great band Blue Moon Rising playing rhythm in one track and me playing banjo in the other. If you want one, I'd rather give them away than throw them away. Band in a Box is great, but there is really no comparison to playing along with REAL professional musicians who are used to playing together and can create a groove with their timing interaction, using dynamics, inserting G runs at the appropriate places, etc. Digitally created tracks can never do this. They will always sound stiff and mechanical.
Disclaimer: These test CD's are from various stages of the recording process which lasted about four months. Some of the banjo playing may be a little rough, especially from the earlier sessions...but the rhythm is impeccable. I have been playing banjo for awhile now.  I just play my favorite songs at home with my metronome and love it. I play every night I can for hours. I thought I was getting my sound and timing down. However,  I was told recently by a few that my timing was off a little. This made me feel terrible and bummed me out. I have been playing a long time a really try hard to get bluegrass sound. I do not have an instructor or friend that can help me out. I dont really like going to the jam b/c I am afraid that I will suck.  I obviously was not paying attention these past years to the BHO forums to find out about BIAB. I just been playing with the metronome.  I just learned about band in the box w/ Real Tracks about 2 days ago. I found this thread along with some others on the BHO that link me up to the BHO's  biab/real tracks / backing tracks. My computer is old and has trouble uploading the list of all the backing tracks off the media section of the BHO so that I can choose a single file. This thread and others that singles them out helped me give BIAB/Real tracks an attempt.   Last night,  I tried playing along to real tracks / BIAB for my first time.   Let me tell you   I HAD SO MUCH FUN.  It was a blast.  It feels like I am playing with others and really helps with my timing.  I am now making a playlist of my favorites. I am excited to go home and practice.  I just wanted to say thanks for making these back up tracks available. Thanks Banjo Hangout.

Well, I'm just discovering this wonderful resource.  I got BIAB 11.5 for Christmas and I was planning on getting the Real Tracks add-on's.  I wasn't sure which ones to get or how to use them.  I've been using the BIAB midis but this is oh so much better.  Thanks a whole lot for putting these up.
