When Mrs. Slammer won’t be home for dinner, it’s time for one of my old “favorites “ !!! SOS to my hearts content!!! The 2nd plate was even better than the first!!! I still remember the first time I ever had it. My Aunt and Uncle were babysitting me and I was 8 years old and my uncle was just out of the Marine Corp. and my aunt made his favorite meal. I idolized my uncle , so naturally it was my favorite too.
Having the leftovers today with a couple over easy eggs on top for breakfast.

Best damn eclairs, peanut squares, and poppy seed horns !!! Hard to find good eclairs made with custard and not pudding. Too bad you had to ruin dessert with my kryptonite Stuffed peppers!!!

On our way to New York yesterday, we stopped in Avon, Ohio for the night and our favorite Sushi place was closed . So Mexican it was. I had the steak mole rojo, and Mrs. Slammer had carnitas. Was enough for four people easily and it was damn good and very fresh. My Modelo Negra was icy cold too.

Sunday, I made shrimp and grits. Large raw (frozen) shrimp were on sale. I ended up having to go to 6 stores to find “old fashion” grits, the slow cooking grits. I bought the Quaker original, at Walmart, though I was hoped to find Bob Red Mills grits. We do not live in “grits” country. It was good though my sauce broke.

Trouble was, during the day I kept getting more sick. After we ate, I tested positive for Covid. Monday was not pleasant, I peaked at 102.5 but by Tuesday morning fever broke. So my Halloween is lights out and hibernate. Sorry kids! Brad

Lamb Balti with chapatis and rice. Balti is a style of curry named after the thin metal dish that it is cooked in - usually brought to the table sizzling hot. It translates as ‘bucket’smiley

I like the sound of Lamb balti, and that meal looks good.

full disclosure: I have failed to date in making any Indian inspired meal.  Even though I have been talking it for years.  Someday, eh!

Brad, I've got a recipe that is amazingly simple and incredibly tasty that simply invovles putting all of the ingredients in a bowl to marinade overnight and then transfer to a dutch oven to cook in the oven low and slow for a couple of hours.  It makes the most delicious curry with absolute zero effort.  Now I know you are a wizz in the kitchen, but this isn't dumbing down, its superb.  I will take a picture of the recipe and post it later.

I will give it a look.  What about namm bread.  Make it or buy it? We do have several Indian stores in town.  Brad

Brad, I hope you can read this, if not give me a shout and I’ll email it to you. ‘Staff Curry’ is the dish a restaurant makes to serve the waiting & cooking staff after they’ve been serving you less authentic dishes all day. This is from a small chain of restaurants which is actually my son’s favourite restaurant. If you can’t get mutton, use lamb or chicken - I prefer meat with some bones as it all adds to the flavour.

Regarding buying or making naan, in the first instance buy the best you can - we have one brand that are a world away better than the standard supermarket brands, a good naan is a thing of beauty. We do make our own, but after years of procrastinating- I’d rather you made the currysmiley

I'd thoroughly recommend you give this a go, it's one of those incredibly simple yet tasty dishes.

Short ribs…that turned out to be long ribs - I then discovered that I’d left my bone saw some 200 miles away in a deer camp larder in Scotland
