Last night I had the most wonderful food...I just bought some spices for Indian food, so the night before I made the paneer (cheese), then in the morning I made the Naan bread, and then I made the sauces for the entrees. I made Matar paneer, which is cheese and peas with a special creamy sauce made of onions, tomatoes and aromatic spices, and the other was Dal Fry with lentils, onions, tomatoes and spices. I served them over basmati rice and ate it all with the fried Naan bread. It was so delicious that I just may have an Indian Christmas this year.

Cooking Indian food, is still on my bucket list.  Perhaps I will get that out of the bucket this winter ?   It will take a trip to our Indian shop for spices, or to Amazon.   I like the spice kits I believe Jonty suggested in the past.

Turkey Shepherds Pie:
Leftover turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, an added can of corn and mushrooms. Not bad!

When it comes to spices, fresher is always better. But, of course, you guys all know that.

I've had a bag of frozen okra in the freezer for about three years now. Today, I got off of my lazy keester and made me some gumbo for the first time ever. I ate a bowl for lunch and it was so good that I am thinking of having it again for dinner. I'll serve it over rice and have some buttered corn bread on the side...Laissez les bon temps rouler!!!

I think it would have tasted pretty good without okra.

Okra was just one of many things I could not hold down as a kid. However, when properly prepared, it becomes a whole 'nuther ballgame.

Been put on a low fiber diet for a few weeks to heal up. Never thought I’d miss salads and fresh crunchy veggies and my Raisin Bran. Tell a man he can’t have something and it becomes desirable. Hope Mrs. Slammer takes notes!!! LOL

Had pizza and made it for the first time on a griddle as opposed to a pizza stone. That extra 30 degrees of heat really made a difference. Much lighter and fluffier crust. This one was just cheese (I ate the pepperoni too fast and didn't get a photo) Mozzarella, a little swiss and a little shredded parmesan. Abbondanza!!!

We tried the hotdogs in pastry thing...I broiled some Nathan's in our little gas oven, wrapped them in Pillsbury crescent dough, and baked them for around 12 minutes. Our oven runs hot, so they got a little blackened on the bottom, but were still good. All the condiments to dip, plus some canned baked beans.

A homemade pizza with purchased dough and sauce. Havarti and mozzarella cheeses, sausage, pepperoni, soupy, peppers, and onions. Very good! We did the recommended "Detroit" method and pressed a layer of cheese into the dough. Keeps it from getting soggy!

I really like gumbo.  Fresh okra is not a big hassle,  but adds so much. The spicing you add to make a gumbo really add to the dish.    We continue to be amazed at how frozen veggies work.  Frozen green peas, are a decent example.
