I’m up in Scotland at the moment, we called in the fish and chip shop at lunchtime. I enjoyed a ‘chip butty’ by the sea with some great views. The Scottish chip shops are notorious for dipping absolutely everything they can in batter and deep frying it. We tried deep fried pizza - never again! And check out the menu….. deep fried cheeseburger!!
Was shopping yesterday . Never in a million years would I have thought a pound of bacon would be cheaper than the eggs. They were priced at $5.39 for a dozen lg eggs.
They had some bacon for $4.29 / lb.
Guess I’m gonna have to start laying them myself!!!
Used to be we would skip the bacon for breakfast cuz it was expensive. Starting to look like breakfast isn’t just the most important meal of the day, but also gonna be the most expensive. Damnnnnnnn!!!
Slammer!!!
I had unstuffed cabbage rolls. Broken some lean ground beef from butcher, cabbage, onions, diced tomatoes, assorted seasonings as needed. Threw it all in a crock pot and left it go. Tossed in white rice after a bit and left it cook to mush. Looked nasty, but very tasty. 3.5 months of this stupid soft diet left. But if it helps my insides get better, that will be worth it!
Paula, we call that cabbage casserole. It’s a goto for us when nothing else sounds good. I have mine with a good squirt of ketchup. The leftovers are amazing!!! It definitely is not a stunning looking meal, but tasty as hell and gets the job done.
My buddy always said………….ever notice the older ya get, the more you appreciate soft food ??? I get it now!!!
Slammer!!!

I'm glad to see that they have updated their menu and no longer serve a Queen Rib.

I am not sure my wife would let me do that. She sure prides in her "galuskies." But I like your way. no softening cabbage leaves, stuffing them and roll and tucking them. etc. What is your rice to beef ratio? Brad
I just dumped 'some' in. I would say about a cup or so.
Tonight's delight is Chicken Bake- basically a chicken breast diced fairly small, some homemade stuffing, then dump some gravy over it, then into the oven for a bit.
I've decided that I'm modifying my diet to really soft, easily digestible stuff. I can't do pureed stuff. I've started to regain some of the weight that chemo took away (over 30 pounds), and it just reminds me too much of the crap I ate while doing chemo due to side effects. So as long as things stay good, that's my plan.
I've been making dolmades for decades" a Greek grape-leaf roll, stuffed with meat, rice & onion. The grape leaves taste like grapes. The lemon/cinnamon/mint makes the dish for me with lemon glaze.
Anyway, made up a batch of the filling and ate it with chepati. I slept very well after such a feed.
Tonight will be Hoagies super-stuffed with egg salad and other shredded rabbit foods.
Those Potatoes Anna remind me of Hasselback Potatoes! They are really easy to make with a sharp knife & some patience. Here's a recipe I found. We tried it a few times & one time i took fresh chive lengths & used them to hold apart the potato layers when they were baking. I have pics somewhere.
I used the handles of 2 wooden spoons to make the cuts. https://www.dinneratthezoo.com/hasselback-potatoes-recipe/
We're having Sous Vide pork tenderloin. It seems lately pork tenderloin is cheap & plentiful.
Bought our unit a few years ago & it has been worth it for steaks & tenderloin. It's like a big aquarium heater! $125.
I bought a Rubbermaid container that fits a big freezer bag. We drop a couple nice rib eyes in there & add butter, garlic, fresh rosemary , thyme & peppercorns. We use a clothespin to hold the bag while it circulates.
Pretty high tech! Dry off your meat & flip it around in a cracking hot cast iron frying pan. Throw the herbs & garlic back in there too. Big steakhouses do this to be able to serve up lots of steaks on demand. It's not boiled meat.
Terry Teriyaki has Teriyaki Tenderloin on the menu tonight with brown rice & green beans.
Yaaayyyy! tomorrow is Friday!
