Slammer: it was pretty good! I made it back in November 2021 and never served it as everyone got sick over Xmas. It kept in the fridge all that time, wrapped in cheesecloth and periodically doused with various alcoholic substances. It's VERY rich and goes a long way. This particular recipe had nuts in it, not necessarily a welcome addition texture wise, but the flavor was good.

Oh, yeah - I dumped 2 nip bottles of brandy over it, killed the lights, and set it on fire. No time to get a picture, as it went very fast.
Al says it's similar to fruitcake and almost too rich for him.
The Brandy Butter consisted of butter, brown sugar, and brandy, blended together. There's a lot left over - maybe it will be good on vanilla ice cream?

A little slice of plum duff goes a very long way doesn't it? We've not been hungry enough to open ours yet as it's pretty big. My dad has been in hospital over Christmas and is looking to be in stroke rehab for a while, I've promised him a Christmas when he gets home, im going to,save ours until there are more mouths around the table.
if you want to try different ways of using the pudding up, we were chatting this morning about the different ways our families and relatives ate it after Xmas day. A slice fried in butter is very good, or a cold slice with a crumbly white cheese is great - this is a hang on to a U.K. thing of eating cheese and fruitcake together which is superb. My father in law also told me that his grandfather used to enjoy a slice of plum duff and marmalad on Boxing Day.

I know what you mean Brad, we were treated to this beauty and it's mainly the sweet goodies that are left....oh and a sizeable chunk of the never ending ham! It also had a very good Riesling in it which we had with our Christmas dinner I thought of you when I opened it.

On our trip to Oregon this summer, we learned about their Rieslings. Better than the sweeter German wines, comparable to some of the bigger Alsatian Rieslings that we loved so much. The terroir and climate in Oregon has offered better Riesling products than what was achieved in California. IMO... And, the chardonnay Sauvignon Blancs from Oregon is becoming our preferred whites as well. While I am bragging about Oregon, the Pinot Noirs are becoming very tasty. brad

I don't think I have ever knowingly had a wine from Oregon - I shall keep my eyes open. I didn't know it a a wine producing place. I had a similar pleasant surprise on my first trip to Switzerland. I din;t know they produced wines, but the wine there is fantastic.

Yum. Especially the potatoes.
Fried Bologna on Sourdough w/Brown Mustard, thinly sliced White Onion, mayo & Colby Jack Cheese. German Potato Salad. Grilled Pineapple Rings sprinkled with Brown Sugar, laid over vanilla ice cream for dessert.
No Maraschino Cherries to fill the holes in the pineapple rings, but, all in all, darn good.

Yep. You and liz are on a roll. Brad
I give up. Most of the Naan bread that I've been buying has been used as pizza crust. In the past month?, more and more of them are turning blue and furry freckles in less than a week.
Back to my old stand-by tonight = potato skins as pizza crusts. Baked last night, I'll cut halves and gut them tonight. Then refry the bakings with some fish tomorrow.
Craig! I was reading down east recipes & had a craving for bologna! I was at the grocery store & they didn't have any in the package already sliced so i went to the deli & got 4 -1/4" slices cut off the log.
Every 6 months I get some baloney, craft cheese slices, Frenches mustard, margarine & whole wheat bread. It used to be Wonder Bread but I make the healthy version now. LOL!
It doesn't matter we have 4 different kinds of mustard, Terrys homemade bread, great cheese & access to all kinds of great cold cuts & pickles.
It takes me back to my childhood! I wouldn't turn my nose up to a Mac & cheese loaf sandwich either!
