This morning, I finished off a loaf of aging French milk bread by making French toast, while wife prepared a pan of aging bacon. Complete a bottle of Maple syrup she bought at a farm in Vermont. Very good MS, but we both agreed our Canadian MS is a bit better. We will be proud to consume both over time! Brad

I really enjoyed my one and only visit to New England some 20 years ago. I did bring back a substantial amount of Vermont maple syrup from a roadside stall - it was the best I've ever tasted. I still can't, and never will enjoy it on either bacon or sausage so my pancakes/French toast have to be on a separate plate to my savoury breakfast items.

One of things I've learned over time is that you can't judge agricultural products in absolutes. There is a lot of variation in maple syrup. It depends largely on whether the sap is early or late in the run and what the weather was the previous year, and also the skill of who is producing it. Wines are the same way. I've heard people pronounce certain tomatoes as the "best." I grow lots of heirloom varieties, and depending on the weather a different variety may be the "best" one year and disappointing the next. Rant off.
The local pub announced that they had bought the wrong veg spring rolls. Boxes of 16 = $6.00
Scored 4 boxes. 12 rolls is a dinner for me. Pretty good. Baked 40 mins @ 375F. Basted with chunky peanut butter (it melted) , soy sauce and garlic powder, sprinkle of Tabasco green.
Did a pan of bacon on top.
I let the rest of box #1 thaw out and will go around again tonight
I think that the elaborate packaging weighs as much as the 16 x 50g rolls.

I completely get it ... some days shop bought meatballs and a jar of pasta sauce save the day in our house.
I'm out of commission on the FF forum for awhile. Long story short, I've been having some esophegal (sp) stricture issues for about a year and a half now, that showed up on my first CT scan a year and a half ago, but at the time I had bigger issues to deal with. So the upshot is that I went and had a look-see on Tuesday, and I had a minor procedure to stretch the narrow part a bit, as I found I had esophagitis, gastritis, and all kinds of 'itis-es'. So now I have to take acid reducers 2x daily, and another medicine to help things heal up a bit. The awful thing is that I have to eat basically puree/soft things for the next 3 months or so. But at least I didn't get confiscated by the local hospital, and didn't have to miss work so that's good. Made turkey breast, stuffing, smashed taters, and jellied cranberry sauce from a can. Oh and homemade gravy. It still tasted great, even after I mutilated it in my blender.
Oh, and I got the results of my Second CT scan post lung-ectomy, and everything looks as it should, so that's more than enough to make up for the Nasty Diet for the next whenever!
