I'm still wondering if we'll find out exactly what he did to render himself persona non grata.

Now Skip .... being nosey is my specialty.  wink

I'm not aware of any stats/research, but speaking in broad terms, it seems to me that if/when stuff does eventually come out in the wash an inordinately high proportion of the initial rumor/speculation turns out to be true... maybe not all the details, but more than a grain (?) of truth.

Pssst ... I heard he was "fooling around" so as to contravene team rules and the NHL standard players contract.   cheeky  I wonder how specific the language re. "fooling around" is in the rules/contract, or whether it gets covered by something like, "not bring disrepute...  ."

Geez ... now it's Cutter Gauthier.... it's a good thing I'm retired and can devote lots of time to mostly let stuff pass me by.

Fwiw, admittedly I only know what our networks feed us about Tortorella.  Based on that I don't think I'd want him as a coach, though I think he'd be just fine as a drinking buddy. [... more than a couple of decades late, in my case .... just reminiscing.  wink ]

Methinks from what the Blackhawks said, is that Perry went to Columbus days before their game there to participate in some “team function” (is the way they put it),, proceeded to get drunk (he admitted he needed help for alcohol abuse) and either insulted and/or groped the female assistant GM.

Torts is definitely old-school. Me and a buddy joked after Cassidy was fired (but before Monty came aboard) that it would serve the Bruins right if Sweeney hired Torts because reportedly the bench thought Cassidy was being too hard on some of the younger players, leading to his dismissal.

Torts tends to get results - and he's getting them in Phillie this year. But he's not everyone's cup of tea - he's on one extreme of that NHL Coach Continuum of "Bring In Hard@$$ed Coach - now Bring In Players Coach."

Beyond results, he can always be counted on for some real zingers in pressers. Among my favorites came a few years ago: "I'm not here to babysit millionaires."

Between coaching gigs a number of years ago, Torts was on a TSN hockey talk show with a panel of journalists/ex-players. He’d get mad about some thing or other and the F bombs were just about ready to fly. There was one kind of lame game the producers thought up - he refused to play along… lol

Classic. One thing you can count on with Torts: he isn't shy to let people know what's on his mind.

Isn't "letting people know what's on his mind" one of the things that made DC/MD so endearing? wink

Like I've said, I don't follow things closely, and channel hop so as to miss most of the "obviously" analyses, and I'll concede that Tortorella has some wit, but I find his apparent need to embarrass people  a turn-off.   But, I've heard rumours that I've been wrong before.

Edit: Razzle Dazzle Bazzle: "I knew my role and just tried to do my best."  Ditto for the Broadstreet Bullies, no?  devil

I'm not okay with that or the Flyers of old.  That's why I said NF's broken finger, "serves him right."  It's mostly kinda "just there" for me nowadays, and becoming more so as time marches on, but I'm still a few steps away from giving a yes to the, "that's just the way things are" justification.

..May be an image of hockey and text that says 'Does your dog bite? No, but it can hurt you in other ways. AMER TEAM HAS WON THE GREY CUP MORE RECENTLY THAN A CANADIAN TEAM HAS WON STANLEY CUP.'

I'm still a bit shell-shocked after my Frankfort/KC debacle, so.....      How come Cgy. is wearing dark and Vegas light for tonight's game in Vegas?

Frkfrt /KC = poltergeist sheneigans

I’ve seen more of that lately - visiting teams wearing their darks,,, methinks it has something to do with the gambling mob. Ever notice lately that the players are squared off for the opening faceoff and then they wait & wait,, finally the ref, who’s been looking at somebody behind the boards, drops the puck after getting the signal?
But I’ll stop now lest I find a horse’s head in my bed tmrrw morning…

p.s., which Americans won the Grey/Gray Cup?

To continue the retribution theme ( re: “the code”) , I wasn’t aware of this stink-up & on-going rivalry between the Jets & the Wild. Boys will be boys…?

Well, I guess there is something new under the sun,, Detroit Red Wings intermission shows are broadcast from an outdoor rink and warming cabin (shack). Chris Osgood is the draw ("Ozzy") along with ex-Hab and Red Wing Mickey Redmond (his brother Dick played for , ahem,, the St. Catharines Blackhawks). They do hockey stuff on the rink (it’s 0*F tonight) and talk the game inside beside the ol’ wood stove. Dan Petry, former Tiger pitcher, was on jawing about his son Jeff who is closing in on 1000 NHL games. I quite enjoy this unique setting (even though they have not yet mentioned anything Blackhawks or TeePees….)

I didn't make it ^^ far.... saw them sitting on the outdoor bench etc. and as it was Dead Things vs. Carolina, I opted for flipping between Ohio State at U. of Minnesota and Metis music/dance on Access TV.... along with some TIMing and BHOing.

Sheesh,,, Garry Galley must figure it’s his job to criticize the team (usu. Habs, cuz he’s a Moan-ray-all fan) that gets scored on, which sounds like he’s sulking a la sour grapes.

Well, some time back it was reported that McDavid was signing with the Carnduff Red Devils, so I guess it fills a roster spot.  Way back, didn't somebody say, "You can't play a million dollars at left wing." in regards to some rumour or other about Hull leaving town?
