Paul, did the father ^^ give any background info?

I'm guessing the recaps you mention are for NHL/CHL/?? games. I've heard/read that protecting star players and energizing the team pass the test, so .... ??  wink

The father told me it was at the opening faceoff. He "coached" his son to start by decking the other kid. Ironic that, when his son was cut from the major Junior team, which was owned by MD, he also complained that the players were told that, on this team, they had to fight.

I watch recaps of NHL games (also CFL and some NFL).

Yeah, I always liked the Chicago sweaters when they went "modern" around 1960 (a bit earlier, maybe?). When the Leafs changed the design around '70, I thought they were among the best in the league. I thought the designs went to hades when Reebok got the league-wide contract. The garbage that they inflicted upon Washington, Pittsburgh, and Ottawa was just cheap ugly. And the shirt tails looked dumb. I was never a fan of the Canadiens sweaters, but the home ones are traditional (but those blue and baby blue ones are a disgrace). I think their road ones should look like:

All-Star dame has come and gone. Two games tonight, eight games tomorrow. And the jockeying for trades begins in earnest.

Our long national nightmare is over.

I’m thinking Ken Holland is burning up the phone lines (?) trying to add,, I’m sure the Oil doesn’t want a repeat of the last few playoff years.

I just watched* the press conference with the London Police service and the follow-up media questions. What.  a load.  of.  ***t!!!.  The chief mentioned the need to rebuild public trust/confidence, but instead of answering questions in a direct and forthright manner [which seems to me to be an easy and logical starting point**] he, and the detective-sargent danced and BS-ed befitting any politician worth his/her salt.

* = yes, watched!! No TIMing or channel hopping or going to the fridge or ... ???

** = ditto for a whole slew of interactions (?), IMNSHumbleO.

Edit:  Near the start the chief used the phrase "the assault.... ."  I'm no lawyer, but I wonder if he actually meant "the alleged assault."

“ answering questions in a direct and forthright manner” ,,,, I resemble that remark

p.s., I heard Christine Simpson asking the chief a question,, result, no firm answer,, the usual "can't comment right now,, it will come out later" (the Simpsons:  her, Dave, and Craig are from London)

So which is a better basis for trust/confidence/respect... a) direct and forthright answers, or b) run-around B.S. non-answers?   [Just askin' for a friend.]  wink

I gotta "wonder" about the journalists (?), though. ... Make an insignificant (?) change to the wording of a question, and run it one more time in the hopes of "tripping-up" (?)  the chief/sargent detective. [Makes me think of the ones on Marketplace looking like complete fools, or horses' patoots ... take yer pick....  running alongside a car asking questions to a closed window.... AFTER the dude has said, "No further comment."]

I'm a wee bit conflicted (?) .... One one hand: Based on probabilities ... ??? and otoh: IF "we*" truly support the premise of innocent until proven guilty ... ???

* = I'm part of "we."

Another interesting (?) tidbit popped up.... this dude [who I'd never heard of before]:    https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=147508   I look at his PIMs and wonder who's "code" he plays by???

Paul, it looks like you overlooked his 9 games with Danbury.  My math [always subject to "revision"] says that this season he's got 7.7 PIMs ... slightly better/worse/?? than his over-all average of 7.02 PIM.

After MD made his statement, at Rob Ford's inauguration in T.O., about "pinko cyclists", I wanted to get a bunch of us to get pink t-shirts and ride past his Wolfe Island property. Then he sold it.

It’s that general attitude of he & his ilk - cycling is pinko/communistic (he’s still buying into The Red Scare of the 1950’s ; “be a real man and drive a big pickup or a muscle car and just fill’er up” , the earth creates its own oil, we’ll never run out ; it’s all those s**thole countries that are polluting the planet, not only that but “ you people” won’t even wear a poppy ; ya need a coupla dipsy-doodle, la-Dee-da goal scorers (grudgingly) ,, the rest of the team has to come from abusive, dysfunctional families to intimidate and mug the opposition,, etc, etc. (ask me how I really feel…)

If I remember correctly there are some who on one hand would have us believe that they disagree with he and his ilk, and on the other hand minimize violence and bad (?) behaviour with stuff like intimidation being an acceptable part of the game, and "boys will be boys."

And lets' not overlook Miroslav Dvorak: "Dipsy-doodle good for fans."  wink

The boys will be boys comment was sarcastic on my part,, I wasn’t condoning bad behavior. I believe I even put a question mark after that phrase.  Same for intimidation,, I agreed it is part of the game of hockey, but doesn't mean I like it. Again, Owen, I think there’s a gap in our understanding via these posts.

Is that Dave K? I met him on various occasions. He's changed. His sister taught in the classroom beside mine. She died in '99, two years after she retired.

Yes, Davey Keon, a tireless digger he was. I’m always saddened when I hear of someone working their whole lives and hardly enjoying retirement before they pass.

Ron Francis :

"When Francis broke into the NHL with Hartford in 1981, his first roommate was former Toronto captain Dave Keon, a notoriously prickly individual.

"I think it took about 30 days for him to have a conversation with me in the room," Francis joked.

One person who was absolutely thrilled was Francis' father.

"I think he was pretty excited to get a call from his son that he's actually playing in the NHL, but then when he found out his son was rooming with Dave Keon, well, it was probably a bigger impression on him at the time than me," Francis said, "one that I've come to appreciate more and more over the years.""

I remember Keon refusing to attend Leafs' reunions in the 1990's,, he was still holding a grudge against the team management , i.e. Harold "Pal Hal" Ballard, from when he was a Leaf.

Hmm,, yeah, it’s expired… dem durn TO newspapers anyway.
basically, Bettman avoiding details on moving forward,, the usual " can't comment",, let's move along, nothing to see here. But he did denigrate the accused players saying they are marginal,, 3rd raters, etc. (I'm paraphrasing)
