When it’s overtime, 3 on 3, and you’re facing McDavid and Draisaitl the opposition might as well fold up their tent before they become highlight reel has-beens.

It wasn't his only chance.

Oh, well. At least they get to join Canada in the "misery loves company" party.

St. Catharines Mem. Cup bid for 2024????

Chuck, I figure  you should do some practicing, just in case they call on you for a ceremonial puck drop.   And who knows if you offer to regale them about past TPs glory you might get the VIP treatment for the whole schmeer.  wink

Well, I suspect DC/MD has long ago forgiven your past indiscretions/faux passes/???.    Surely you can find it in your heart to reciprocate?   ... even a teensy-weensy bit?   cheeky

...and what's with those &*^%$^# uniforms the Habs are sporting tonight?

...apparently it's working ... ONLY 2-0* Kings [not surprisingly Habs are also being out shot].

* = just think what it would likely be if they were wearing  their unlucky customary (?) ones.

And they/he wanted the players to fight - in a year when the OHL wanted to cut down on fighting. The kid across the street was drafted, and cut, from them in their first year of operation. The fighting emphasis was introduced then.

Double blue. It worked for the Argos. Unfortunately, it's not the same sport.

That almost-rookie defense has a lot to learn Gotta steepen the learning curve. The Habs are brutal in their own end. Potential will only get you so far.

Not a fan of "third" (and fourth, and fifth, and...) sweaters. Just more stuff to get fans to buy - at those prices. And so many of them are really awful. Did you see the Sabres' all-white uniforms? An attempt to blind their opponents (and themselves)?

The Habs' last attempt (reverse colours) was a flop. No different this time.

The only "third" sweater the Habs ought to wear is ...

Fwiw, I like the traditional [i.e. what was in vogue when I was young and impressionable] uniforms .... of course Habs, but Detroit's away is not too far back.  I also liked the looks of Cooperalls, and think the rationale for putting the kibosh on them [material was too slippery] is a bit of wool-pulling.   [Otoh, Chuck, do you suppose maybe the NHL's publicists and the writers of the news for our national networks were one and the same?  cheeky ]

Edit: Paul, do you think MD/DC's "off the glass and out" advice would be worthwhile for the Hab's inexperienced defense?   [And Chuck... that's "off" not "over."]

My limited experience [as a "plodding defenseman"] says that a good proportion of own-end woes stem from the %^$#%$^ wingers doing a poor job of backchecking.   When I played LW, I probably thought differently.

I didn't know that Peter Gzowski was a news writer.   Come to think of it, do the networks even tell us who comes up with the script that gets read on air/camera as news?  Maybe they do, and I've already flipped to another channel.... or snoozed thru it.

Btw, if/when people are engaged in an exchange of information* or a quest for information,  and one refuses to answer questions, do you have a better label than "disrespect"?    If you do, please let me know, and I'll give it serious consideration.

[* = not to be confused with shooting  the breeze over a couple of wobbly pops  ... to provide a direct link to DC/MD.]

Edit: And on the topic of respect/disrespect, I seem to have missed the respect in, out of the blue, coming up with "Many too many spoiled crybabies nowadays. Right Owen?" and toot-de-sweet dismissive, "... so I'll not belabour the issue henceforth."  It's the toot-de-sweet aspect that I question.... raising an issue is fine; condescendingly (?) dismissing the ensuing engagement is not so fine, IMNSHumbleO.

Too many questions to fit into my busy schedule…. Okay,, the cry baby reference I gave was not meant to say that thou wert one,, but in reference to a long-ago thread in which I mentioned it about the unmentionable. Folks whining about certain advice given by our friendly health professionals who were casting a big, wide net so’s not to admonished later on for being negligent,,, sorta like a weatherman cautioning about possible destructive storms.

Thanks, at least now it's clear as mud.  I was [still am] one of the folks who "questioned" certain advice given by our healthcare professionals.  Does question = whining = crybaby?   ... just askin' for a friend. wink   [And anyhoo, who was being referenced is kinda irrelevant... the issue is whether or not condescendingly (?) dismissing it is a show of respect.]

Fwiw, I'm pretty sure that answering my questions would take less of your time than what you put into not answering them.

P.S. Do you have a better word than "disrespect" for not answering questions that are part of a non-frivolous/non-B.S.ing  exchange?

.... and P.P.S., what about those Cooperalls?

Gamesmanship / trash talk ....  as part of a non-frivolous / non-B.S.ing exchange?

[... not saying that trash talk in the context of an athletic contest isn't "real." ]

If a person is trash talking, in what, on the surface, appears to be a reasoned BHO exchange, wouldn't an N.B./disclaimer/advisory??? that what the person is going to post is "just talking trash" be worthwhile in preventing misinterpretation?   ...at least for non-nuanced guys like me that apparently take "what you see is what you get" more literally than others do.

Nuance = grey area

I brought up my gamesmanship/stirring the proverbial pot in that long-ago thread about the unmentionable. You posed the same retort at the time. If one throws out a disclaimer beforehand it will nullify the effect of such gamesmanship, n’est-ce pas?

The "effect" of gamesmanship is a good fit in discussions like  the St. Catharines TPs and DC/MD's wardrobe....   not so much in discussions re. vaccine mandates,  the truckers convoy, the state of Canada's healthcare system, IMNSHumbleO.

Others might refer to raising a topic so as to be able to decline to participate or carry it through, as "gamesmanship" .... fwiw, I don't. I had asked if you think <<  is showing respect, but I'm having trouble finding your answer.

I saw practically zee-ro "tongue-in-cheek" or nuance in your discussions of those ^^ topics. From what I can see the effect of not giving a disclaimer is acrimony.   Wouldn't that be an effect that's worth nullifying?..... again making a distinction between reasoned discussion and B.S.ing / shooting the breeze / "solving world problems / etc.

Is there actually "a time and place for everything"?   ... or am I gonna hafta get out my Wee-g* Board and contact my dear departed mammy, who sometimes  tried to curtail our tom-foolery with that maxim?  wink

* = a.k.a. Ouija

Edit: I made a lighthearted comment about your description of the colour of shirt you were wearing... and look what ensued.  I don't recall, but there's a good chance I winked when I made the comment... indicating mucho "nuance."

My dignity is manifested by sticking to my guns, adhering to my views, and as DC/MD once said, “ Never apologize - go down with the ship!”
