Well, as you know, I think I made it clear (as mud) that DC / MD went to that well all the time, even IF Dennis (ex-St. Catharines Blackhawk) O’Brien would fire it OVER the glass constantly. I say it’s a way to clear the zone if your guys are tired or panicky,, otherwise it’s best to dipsy-doodle, fake& feint, college-boy-style yer way outta da zone.
I bet it was the old goalie John Garrett on the broadcast who wanted it off’n the glass,, they ALWAYS wanted the puck out of their heavy sweat zone.

... well, better that than the real heavy sweat zone.... the back of yer net.
Best to dipsy-doodle, etc. ... until the guy coming in [i.e. tired or panicky aside] to forecheck is a better/quicker dipsy-doodler, etc. ... and you haven't the time to check out his credentials. But, I do recognize the value of puck possession.
Didn't check on the commentator... coulda been Garrett .... is Glen Healy still around??? [Fwiw, I liked Darren pang .... but then again I liked Greg Zaun's commentary on Boo Yays broadcasts.
]
[But ya, MD/DC's strength wasn't finesse. Or as detractors might say: A broken clock... ah, you know the rest.]
....I was reconnoitering .... thinking maybe Greg Millen..... then on tonight's broadcast Garry Galley sounds like maybe t'was him.
In any event Galley just now described somebody's confused manner of play as Heckyll and Jyde. His broadcast partner mentioned that the player might not be the only one showing confusion, but Galley made no response.
...AND it's now 2-1 Penguins.... maybe best go do some TMITMIing.

If it was the Canucks feed it woulda been J Garrett who does colour with John Shorthouse. btw, Garrett grew up playing minor hockey in Trenton, ON with Terry Brown, the guy who lasso’d me into playing DEFENCE (lordy, lordy,, not telling me beforehand) on his Intramural hockey team in the last championship game of the season,,, I think I told yooz guys,, it was the last hockey game I ever played.
... I'm not convinced that morality (?) should be a criteria for consideration to a H.of F. IF there's a need for an "explanation" or an "*" or an update/revision [I'm thinking Allen Eagleson] then so be it, IMNSHumbleO. [Apparently those in charge aren't too, too concerned 'bout MNSHumbleO.

Brendan Shanahan >> WheelHouseHockey >> Facebook >> BHO:
"On road trips, Scott Bowman would leave a stick with the hotel front desk at curfew time, asking the clerk to get players to sign it. It was his simple way of deciphering which players were coming in late. If anybody asked me for an autograph late at night, I always signed 'Darren McCarty.' "
Didn't somebody [Serge Savard??] grab the autographed souvenir stick of the guy behind him in line and present it to somebody [P.E. Trudeau??] when they were being met/congratulated as they got home from some tourney or other??
Hockey Beast >> Facebook >> BHO:
"Harry Neale insisted that his players be able to run two miles before they came to the New England Whalers training camp in 1977-78. In acknowledgment of Gordie Howe’s age and stature, Neale told him he didn’t have to run the race. But Howe was concerned about how it would look to the other players on the team.
He ran for the first couple of days, and his ankles and shins were becoming quite sore. Neale decided that it wasn’t a good idea for Howe to run, but Howe was still concerned about how it would look to his teammates if he didn’t do everything they did.
Neale told him not to worry. He called all the players together for a ”special announcement.”
”Gordie Howe no longer has to run,” Neale said. ”And I’m making a deal with all of you. If you play with me in the season you turn fifty, you won’t have to run either.”
Robert Marvin (Hull) would often be hungover during Chicago Blackhawk training camp practices at Garden City Arena in St. Catharines where he played Junior hockey with the TeePees (a team I should tell you about some time). He’d stand by the boards where all the kids were gathered and sign autographs to escape the workout drills.

No-hum,, yawn,,, just another McDavid highlight goal,, overtime yet.

I'll say it again, the only player I've ever seen with that kind of overdrive speed and domination of the ice was Bobby Orr. Explosive.

Thanks... I went to bed half-way thru.
Now you can settle an ongoing argument/discussion/??? re. the GOAT. A son-in-law and grandson* say it's Gretzky. I say a team of 20 Orrs would beat a team of 20 Gretzkys pretty much every time. A guy down at our pre-that-which-shan't-be-mentioned card games says a team of Messiers might beat a team of Orrs. Where does a team of 20 McDavids fit in?
* = fwiw, they live in Beaumont, AB.
Edit: And don't welch out by saying that, "Of course a team of McDavids would prevail .... some of those other dudes probably haven't laced 'em up for some time now." ![]()

More behind-the-scenes drivel [courtesy of Brenden Morrow] from Hockey Beast > my Facebook > BHO:
"So we’re playing in Phoenix one night back when the Coyotes played at their old arena. Now at that place, they had the bench split up, so there was a spot where two people could sit, and then behind that was the long bench where the rest of the team sat.
Why was it this way? No idea. It’s just how it was. I was playing on a line with Modano and Hull in this particular game. We all know there’s no way our head coach Ken Hitchcock is going to be yelling at those two, so I was clearly going take the brunt of his punishment if things weren’t working out.
Those are the breaks when you’re on the ice with two all-timers. So we get out there for our first shift, and one of us turns the puck over. We get back to the bench, and Hitch just starts laying into me, using every word in the book. I’m just like, “Holy s***, it’s gonna be one of those nights.”
So we go out for another shift, screw something else up, and Hitch is searching for me. He finds me, and then starts chewing me out again. Then we go out for a third shift, and it’s another dud. But this time as we’re skating back to the bench, Hully turns to me and goes, “Hey, you come sit over here with me.” And I join him in the little two-person, love-seat area.
Meanwhile you can see — and you can hear — Hitch waddling around on the other side of the bench. “Where’s Brenden? Where the hell’s Brenden?” He finds me and he’s just all red. And I’m trying to be respectful, so I lean backwards to look him in the eye while he tells me how bad I am. But as I lean back, Hully leans back as well and blocks my view. So I lean forward to try to see past him, and Hully moves forward and blocks me again. I move back, Hully matches me.
This keeps going. I can’t shake him. And the entire time, Hitch is just getting more and more pissed. But I can’t make eye contact because Brett’s melon is in the way. And Brett turns to me and says, “You tell that mother****er to **** off!” Oh man, what a teammate."

Some guy figures, "...the Canucks should stop switching uniforms and start winning games." https://www.richmond-news.com/opinion/designer-original-vancouver-canucks-logo-stop-switching-jerseys-6148904?%3Futm_source=facebook&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=snd&fbclid=IwAR1cbCF05IYJOcmtdRG0_ugMnEPPZtAYAzhlQoebEKZ-_PfKHCUl_IVCp6o
.... to my mind the original logo and colo(u)r scheme are still the best. But, tongue in cheek, if you never step out of the boat ..... ![]()
Edit: But, but, but, haven't "they" won two in a row, back-to-back, consecutive games, without a loss? [I went to bed after 2nd.period last nite.]
Edited by - Owen on 11/27/2022 10:43:38
Canucks are on a roll,, they’re back in the race. Good forechecking and otherwise inspired hockey. Gotta love the original logo with the C for Canucks and hockey stick against the ice rink profile. Some folks also see the head of a whale. It’s a regular Rorschach ink blot test,, they need another Orland Kurtenbach and a Pavel Bure to get them over the hump. (pun intended)
.... a quarter of a century or so back, when my younger brother and his wife had their first kid, I said I'd give a Habs T-shirt / sweater / ??? as a baby gift. My brother [sort of a Maple Laffs fan] said that if I did, he'd use it as a shop rag. ![]()
Edit: "...re. the GOAT. A son-in-law and grandson* say it's Gretzky. I say a team of 20 Orrs would beat a team of 20 Gretzkys pretty much every time." They're ganging up on me.... my daughter e-transferred a bit of doh-rey-me to me. The security question she asked was: "Greatest NHL player of all time?" Neither Orr nor McDavid was an acceptable answer!!
Edited by - Owen on 11/28/2022 13:55:15
McDavid’s legacy has yet to be determined, but I’d put him beside Orr at the top. Then ya gots yer Howes, Gretzkys, Lemieuxs, Crosbys, Richards, Hulls, etc., not necessarily in that order. Err,, the greatest Maple Laff of all time,,, hmm.... The Big M ?... or maybe the kid from the Arizona desert.
