Yep.... I looked up "dignity" and "respect" online, and came up with a picture of DC/MD.  Whoda thunk it?   wink

Good news, Owen,, we can still get our mugs on a hockey card - Ollie says he’s got some pull and can probably swing it for us!

Occasionally [eg. waiting on a bench in a mall for my wife to show up] when an old dude [my age +/- 10 years] wearing a team jersey/sweater/top sits nearby, I've used it as as ice-breaker (?): "I didn't realize that  the _____"X"_____ had an old-timers team."   So far my nose hasn't even had a close call.

Does Ollie's town [Kimberley?] have a house league, or is it out-of-town travel?   My three grandsons had been playing house-league hockey in Beaumont, but they all opted for basketball instead this winter..... with team/individual pics, of course.

Edit: I do see the possibility of a downside for Tabler getting the heave-ho. If the broadcasts improve enuff, it might lead to less Yankees to accommodate more Boo Yays ... although an important factor in my channel hopping is often the dismal quality [choke/hack/choke/splutter] of some ads.

Ollie plays house league, but their tournaments attract teams from all over southeastern BC.

I see the new young Connor is falling in line with the over-used “obviously” during interviews. BTW, he’s wearing no. 16 that a young & former TeePee Bobby Hull once donned…. before he felt worthy of taking no. 9 that his heroes The Rocket and Gordon Howe wore.

.... obviously he knows what he's doing.

I read a bit ago that attendance was up every time the Pats were the visiting team, but that it was down in Regina.  The writer noted that Regina had the highest ticket prices in the league, and I think he raised the possibility that a move to a new city could be in the foreseeable future for the Pats.  I haven't kept abreast of things, but that would seem rather unfortunate to me.

Just before last nite's game I was wondering aloud to my totally disinterested wife re. how large the goal differential would be.  " ..10, ya think? ... maybe 12?  .... 12's a lot, but it could happen."

Junior hockey wouldn’t be the same without the Regina Pats,, them being around since 1917. Methinks the Regina brass will rethink ticket prices.
(the TeePees / Blackhawks left St. Catharines for greener pastures,, now they’ve inherited DC/MD’s former club. I believe DC woulda played against St. Boniface, Manitoba’s Hoekstra brothers in the 1950’s when the Barrie Flyers butted heads with the TeePees)

ed. methinks they got "St. Boniface TeePees" wrong

They all wear cages & the still had their gloves on! No injuries reported. Oh The Huge Manatee!

^^ looks mild enough Bubba .... nobody came off the bench.

Canada 3 - Czechia 2 (OT) ... Kudos.  Good entertaining hockey.  Sounds like Halifax/Moncton got exceptional fan support.

At some point late in the game, my wife [hopefully??] asked it it was the final game. I said, "Yes, but not to worry, we'll only be without hockey 'til the west-coast game comes on at 9."   She was able to come up with an almost convincing eye-roll.

When did they go to the name “Czechia” ?
(btw, ex-TeePee Stan Mikita was born in the former Czechoslovakia when it was behind the Iron Curtain and got smuggled out to live with his Uncle and Aunt in St. Catharines. I think he missed playing against DC/MD by a couple of years)

Saw a clip pf that on CBC. From the period's opening faceoff, too. Puck drop? We don't need no stinkin' puck drop! And not enough officials to handle it. The Huge Manatee's in Florida.

I think it was around the time the Slovaks decided to go it alone.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Czechoslovakia_men%27s_national_ice_hockey_team

IF the "networks" [those beacons of all that's good/right/proper]  use Czechia, that's good enuff for me.  wink

Edit: And furthermore Czech Republic sounds decidedly political .... and you gotta know I wouldn't try to bend a rule.

So for the next Calgary Hitmen game against the Vagina Pats has them opening up the seats in the upper tier at the Saddledome because of high ticket demands.

So Lanny McDonald was on Calgary talk radio today waxing eloquently about the Flames. About 2 minutes in he uttered “obviously” , but he used it in an appropriate manner. Gotta love those old school guys who learned their interview skills in the “Centre of the Universe” playing for “Pal Hal” Ballard.

I still don't watch many interviews, but since you mentioned it, I've been putting a bit more effort into it.  When interviewing somebody-or-other* during the World Junior Tournament, Jackie Redmond used "obviously" at least three times during the interview.

I heard they shortened it because to put the letters for Czechoslovakia on a jersey they would have to make them really small & all the way around!

Far be it from me to trash the funny, delightful Ms. Redmond , but it’s usually not the interviewer who uses “obviously” indiscriminately. She’s obviously been hanging around dressing rooms (aka locker rooms in the U.S.) too much and talking to guys with their sweaters (aka “jerseys” in the USA) off.

Ms. Redmond could use the word "Deflinhijyarr" multiple times in the course of a three-question interview, and I'd still be eager to watc.... er, I mean, listen.

I know, I know. I'm a pig.

From Razzle-Dazzle-Basil .... Hockey Beast >> Facebook >> BHO:

Basil McRae: Kids would come up and say, “You were in the Mighty Ducks.” And I’d always say, “Fifteen years of pro hockey and 30 seconds in a movie. That was either a heck of a movie or I was a pretty s***ty player.”

Noticed on tonight's broadcast of Habs/Jets game.... same video feed on TSN2 and TSN3 [which seems reasonable] but different broadcast teams ... Mudryk/Button on 2 and Robertson/Sawyer on 3.  How come?  [P.S. It's another slow day here in beautiful west-central MB.]
