Babcock’s ego was his undoing. He came across as cerebral and impressive but the real person came forward after a while. Now take former St. Catharines Saint Bruce Boudreau,  now there’s a COACH ! yeslaugh

Can’t play goal due to injury..? Ok, might as well sing the anthem then.

....haven't come across you-know-who's picks, but apparently The Great One likes  the Flames over the Oilers in 2nd. round  https://dailyhive.com/calgary/gretzky-picks-flames-over-oilers-playoff-prediction?fbclid=IwAR2M9si-Bs0sx1JwzGT24X-Q7_j6f6rld3mSRzelH-lMdWYczm4bChps05E

Fwiw, I tried to log on to a couple of sites to enter my fearless predictions, but apparently my computer/internet skills aren't up to snuff, or the sites are less user-friendly than the organizers think they are.  [In Brandon yesterday it took me about 4 tries to get the Petro Canada pump to accept my card so I could fill up. crying ]

Here's a tidbit about Le Coop Stanlee from Hockey Unplugged via Facebook that I don't recall having heard before:

"Helmets in 1937? The fallout of the Ace Bailey head trauma probably. Here, Nels Stewart goes tumbling, apparently due to the stickwork of Gord Pettinger (the guy who crapped in the Stanley Cup after Detroit won later that year in the postseason and was immediately stripped of the captaincy he had just been handed days beforehand - hard to find records of it other than in two history books - and he was angrily traded away that summer).

Funny how both skaters are wearing head protection and goalie Normie Smith is just wearing a cap!"

I figured this ...

May be an image of 1 person and text that says 'Elon Musk @elonmusk Now I'm going to buy CBC and put Don Cherry back n HNIC.'

...would be more "appreciated" in this thread than the one about Elon Musk:

Team Canada roster.... I don't pretend to be an expert, or even follow it particularly closely, but my limited knowledge figures these guys should do okay.   What say you real experts?

https://www.hockeycanada.ca/en-ca/team-canada/men/national/2021-22/world-championship/stats/team-rosters?teamid=268

.... 3 Man-ee-toe-bahns / 10 westerners.... can't be all that  bad.  wink

Team Canada has one guy from near St. Catharines - Josh Anderson. I only know of two others that I’m familiar with,,, too many teams I rarely see. Used to know every player, where they was borned, an’ if’n they shot left or right. I’ll give ya a Val Fonteyne for your Eric Nesterenko

His team just won the Shane Wright sweepstakes. Hope they don't pull a Doug Wickenheiser.

You're welcome. Those options seem funny until the collection agency shows up at your door. surprise

Paul, do you mean a registered (?) collection agency or the guys carrying a violin case?

I've only had two direct experiences with collection agencies [by letter, not in person] and neither for mucho dollaar... I told them I wasn't paying,  and explained (?) that, in one case they should collect from my insurance carrier, and in the other case the agreement I had with the guy I rented the production facilities from when I started into dairying specified that he was responsible for the hydro.  Never heard another peep. I guess that makes it:  Mr. Owen = 2 / CAs = 0.  wink

On one of the fly-in reserves I answered the school phone and got a guy from a collection agency who asked that pass a message along to A.R. [that he "... call us at __ -___-____ " ].  So I did.  A.R. glanced at it, commented "Oh, these guys." and with a smile/chuckle tossed it into the round file. I assumed (?) that the voice on the other end had no inkling that A.R. was on a remote reserve, and how things work, or don't work, there.

.... and to sneak in a bit of baseball: On the NCAA women's fastball game a girl was able to "...stay on top of the ball," allowing her to schmuck it over the fence.   How does that work?

If it’s a high pitch that gets hit they say “getting on top of the ball” in contrast to getting under (hitting the bottom of the ball) it and popping it up.
Explanation found in Pat Tabler’s new baseball terminology book….

Like this video shows?

[It seems to me if the contact is above the centerline of the ball, most batters would have considerable difficulty putting it over the fence, which is what I'm wondering about, not line drives or hard-hit ground balls. A different video mentioned having the bat traveling in the same plane as the ball, which makes sense to me. But I've not played a very high level ...and even then as a batter I didn't strike fear into the pitcher's/defense's heart(s). ]

..... Is this https://www.hockeypatrol.com/Huge-brawl-breaks-out-between-Leafs-fans-after-another-game-7-loss-124893?fbclid=IwAR3BoxZxntEOLM6T11HCbJ4I61N0-UZ6Pq6Q1UG94U9tEA60c7-iFmYdUKM a huge brawl?

'Way back at the old Wpg. arena [FF Bombers vs Wpg. Clubs???] somebody [fwiw, not me or my buddy] threw a glass bottle onto the ice just as the period was about to end.  During intermission, out in the concourse a loud "difference of opinion" took place  [purportedly the bottle incident was a factor]: cursing  >> 2 or 3 guys scrapping  >> a few friends (?) join in >> then there's 10 or 12 guys "getting their point across"  >>  the knot/circle/?? finally stopped expanding with less than 2 dozen participants.  The whole thing only took a minute or two; I don't recall seeing much arena security staff, or know just why cooler heads (?) prevailed; I don't think anybody got tossed. Dunno, maybe they had to allow time to get to the washroom, go get another beer and get back to their seats in time for the next period??  Like the ^^ video, more haymakers thrown than landed.

Team Canada.... 4-3 OT loss to the Finns w/Canada killing a penalty.  It looked pretty iffy mid-way thru the third... a few improbable twists/turns and silver medals it is yes .

I guess that qualifies as "okay."  [re. May 10th. comment: ....but my limited knowledge figures these guys should do okay.  .... 3 Man-ee-toe-bahns / 10 westerners.... can't be all that  bad.]

.... kudos to the Finns.   wink
