Fair enuff, and it's something I can easily go [follow?] along with, but you surely had/have me fooled.... too nuanced and/or sub-till for me I suppose.   It seems to me that you want to make some point or other, but think others shouldn't reply or ask for rationale.  Fwiw, to me there's a noteworthy a diff between asking for rationale and venting.  [On that tack, what's the diff between ignoring questions as a part of a "debate" and ignoring questions that aren't part of a debate?  ]

And for comic relief, I was at the yocal clinic this a.m. They have a sign up saying that based on the advice of experts/specialists [I didn't write down the exact wording] they will be continuing with the mask mandate.  Care to make a wager that the province is lifting mandates on the 15th. based on the exact same advice, from the exact same experts?  

Maybe the mediocre experts will make exceptions for clinics

I dunno.... maybe our clinic is a private business that just happens to get all of its money from the public purse.   Seems to me that "legal" and "logical" might be on divergent paths??

I don't get the link between "wondering" and "knocking an authority figure down."   I just [metaphorically??] trip over a lot of stuff without actively looking for it..... learning by osmosis ...  much of it can only be missed via willful blindness, IMNSHumbleO.  I don't bother to look behind any curtains.... before long most of the stuff is out in plain sight.   

W.r.t trust, I give everybody the benefit of the doubt 'til they demonstrate that I shouldn't have.  Can you name or point out anybody or agency that I don't trust, where my lack of trust is/was not warranted?

Sorry Owen, I guess I innocently started this with the convoy/Skydome post…. I’m done with this stuff now. We had 20+ pages and over 4,000 views on this a couple months ago,, (I’m still waiting for Eric to send us a new strings voucher).

I dunno whether my posts are any more/less innocent than yours. Some of your posts might be too nuanced/subtle for me..... but, among other things, I don't include "rocks in the head" [mine or the heads of some very smart, astute, capable, well-informed people I know] as particularly nuanced or subtle.   [I'm waiting for Eric to put the kibosh on those annoying footer (?) ads and the players union one up top that slyly takes me to some site when I click on the "X" in the upper right corner that usually closes things.]   

I won't be initiating any exchanges where Covid is a central issue,  but I have an inkling that I very well might reply to some that others start.

P.S. I'd still like to hear your thoughts re. the government's right to freeze bank accounts without there being any prior due process..... as a general principle, even though it was brought to the fore by recent events.

My non-legal take is that frequently waivers aren't worth the paper.... ah, you know the rest.  Somewhere along the line I've heard that it's very difficult [impossible?],  to "sign" one's way out of negligence ... especially a parent on behalf of a minor.  I think a lot of waivers take advantage of people's ignorance.... maybe even on both sides.  The devil's in the detail??

Back when I was trying to teach I'd occasionally hear about court decisions where a teacher, school, or board was found guilty of negligence.   I think "knew or should have known" was an important consideration. 

Thankfully I've never had to put such matters to the test.  Maybe I'll make a [token?] effort to see what the all-knowing internet yields up???

^^ reminds my of a relatively inconsequential screw-up I had a minor hand in [...or in which I had a minor hand??].    The Gr. 9/10 b'ball team I was coaching got knocked out in the semi-final of the Gilbert Plains tournament [hillbilly country west of Dauphin].   We decided to head home rather than hang around for the final. 

The GP coach / tournament organizer said there had been a glitch in acquiring the MVP trophy, but he'd seen enough of the play of one of our players to award him the trophy  [i.e. he gave me his iron clad guarantee that nobody on either of the teams in the final could catch him].  We'd get it in due course .... and that way the name could be engraved before rather than after.   

I expect you can guess the rest.........

As was common then, we had school opening exercises over the intercom, so come Monday I dutifully announced that we had lost the semifinal game, but on the bright side Barry Boyacheck had been awarded the MVP trophy.  Later in the day the GP coach called and informed me that another player in the final had indeed played played better than he'd thought possible.  Ooops indeed!!  Fwiw, being an all-round good kid probably helped Barry [he of 3 1/2 fingers on his shooting hand thanks to an old lawnmower mishap] take the news in stride.

When I got on the board of the Kingston Velo Club, I represented the club at the annual Ontario Cycling Association meeting in T.O. Most of the day was spent in a session on liability (presented by Brock U.'s Sport and the Law people. You need to have a plan in place and ensure that the organization sticks to the plan. They showed four steps (don't remember right now), and the plaintiff has to show that the steps were not taken. Negligence must be proved. Waivers are worth the paper, but other stuff is involved. Anyway, it's not as simple as it seems.

I guess he figures anything to make more news - bad press is better than no press…?
