Heck... I was expecting him to come out with one of the guy-we-can't-mention's inspirational quotes or anecdotes in response to RM's question about who/what gets him to "that peaceful place."     Bummer!!

My heart says Rays, but my [empty] wallet says Dodgers.

"I'm just like Grapes - I love to hear myself talk." (But not about the old days when he'd get drunk and pee on people's cars if they parked in front of his Rosedale mansion. He's mellowed a lot since then.)

Ya, drunken folk singers shouldn’t be allowed to make much money - it goes against the grain of being just “one of the folks”.

- during his booze & cocaine days he got to despise his audience, berating and insulting them constantly. Good thing he cleaned up.

He had an "interesting" relationship with his audience. The first time I saw him, at Expo 67 (Canada pavilion), someone was taking pictures and he mugged for the camera - clearly not wanting photos taken.

That pic reminds me of the daughter's learn to skate lessons from Parks and Rec in High Park. It culminated with a free skate at Maple Cheese Gardens. The place was packed. We skated and stopped at centre ice, standing on the maple leaf. Wish we'd had a camera.

The teacher in the classroom next to mine was Pat Keon, sister of Dave. Wonderful person, who died much too soon.

If David Ayres and Lester Patrick https://vault.si.com/vault/1961/04/03/the-day-the-coach-played-goalie can do it, the only problem I can imagine would have been swinging the trade.... and dealing with the ensuing uncivil unrest ......

Pat Quinn had to get a police escort out of Boston Garden for flattening Orr with a dandy bone-crushing check. Beantown’s never seen such an uproar,,,, ‘cept for Bill (“Bum-Knees”) Buckner.

Well, Stompin'' Tom and his "Hockey Song" graced the Gardens' air waves many a time!

(how does Lightfoot always seem to horn in on these hockey conversations....?)

Hockey related news : the driver of the truck that crashed into the Humboldt Broncos team bus a couple years ago is fighting deportation. He got 8 years,, shouldn’t have even been on the road at that time - his log book was incomplete for days beforehand.
I guess us taxpayers have to foot the bill for his incarceration though, as I see they’ll deport him after he’s out. Sheesh....

I've got mixed emotions on this one.   As a general guideline, I like to see second chances being given.  I'm not sure who will benefit from his deportation.

“He’s being focused on because of the magnitude of the consequences, as opposed to how bad his actions were,” Veeman said.....

I feel bad for the guy,, but if a landed immigrant (or whatever status he has) gets that much jail time, then he’s gotta go back. If his logbooks were good I’d say keep him here.

Well, you have a better grasp* on the importance of logbooks than I do, but I look at that as a record- keeping SNAFU... not at the top of the totem pole in the grand scheme.   I'm guessing that nowadays log-books are done electronically rather than bic-on-paper... would an up-to-date one have lead to a supervisor or government flunky being alerted as to what was happening and subsequently have kept him off the road at that particular time?

Additionally I don't see how the length of the sentence should bear on a deportation decision.

* =  and if you don't, then we're all in more trouble than I thought.
