FWIW, Greg Zaun was one of my favourite analysts.... he too apparently made some cringe-worthy remark, 'though I've never seen/heard just what it was.
Nothing new. In the Eighties in a cycling magazine, the editor wrote about seeing a really attractive woman on a bicycle and added, "I nearly crashed the car." When he got blow back from readers, he responded to one with a request for a photo. Well, he got much more blow back, deservedly so, and finally issued an apology.
I don't think that talking in a civilized manner is "PC". It's just appropriate. What place did "women are distracting" have in the commentary, anyway.
Although I enjoyed a Monday Night Football comment. When Frank Gifford said that the quarterback, who kept the ball, "eschewed the pass." Don Meredith responded, "He eschewed it, all right. He eschewed it and and spat it right out." I never forgot that line.
From the article, I gather that his response, "Not even any women here to disrupt your concentration." was simply one example of something that could be used as excuses for less than "giving it 110%" out on the ice. I read somewhere that he later explained (?) it as a nod to being "irreverent." In any event, it's a l-o-n-g way from being uncivilized, IMNSHumbleO.

Terry, "looking," and who knows, maybe (?) even "doing," isn't the no-no, it's issuing an innocuous (?) comment that some find unacceptable.
Paul... I hold Ken Dryden in hight regard as a goalie. When it comes to his pronouncements and commentary, he reminds me of Peter Gzowski.... go on, and on, and on, and on, etc., etc., etc. rather than get to the point. Who knows?... Dryden might have come to a similar assessment, 'cept it would have taken him 10 minutes and he would have couched it flowery/ambiguous (?) language and phrased it 9 ways from Sunday in the process. 
Edit: Chuck... Phil seems to be overlooking the fact (?) that the NHLers apparently believed their own press clippings and "were not as well-prepared as they might have been." [How's that for a wishy-washy, open-ended, PC, acceptable-to-everyone description?]

so if letting women in a mens locker room is not a disruption,,, then men in a womens locker room isn't either,, then i would just do my interviews in my birthday suit and move on.
since we are doing away with privacy ,,just have one public bathroom like communes everybody just be free !
i mean one team is going to lose,, and when they step out of the shower after getting their butt whipped and a woman/man/other is standing there hitting them with a bunch of questions ,, its seems to be the perfect storm.
i don't think any reporter should be allowed in the locker room,, catch then as they come out,, thats like when the race car drivers crash and first thing here comes somebody with a mic and camera ,,, well what happpened ?

Good point. Except for the champagne showers by the winning team, and the water bottle showers by the 'Canes when the Zamboni driver helped them beat the Leafs, there isn't really much point. When did the practice of reporters invading the dressing room begin? These days we get the dressing room and the post-game press conference.
As for Milbury, he should have realized that making a comment with an audience listening is not the same as yukking it up with your buddies. It's not just what you say, it's what they hear.

Either the Canuckleheads were pretty impressive or the Blues folded like cheap tent. I'd prefer to believe the former and that the drought since '93 will end - although I'd rather the team that won it way back then were the one to win it now. Ain't gonna happen. But, jeez, it's hard to cheer for a team with uniforms of blue and green. "Blue and green / should never be seen / except for inside a washing machine."

I think when the Canucks entered the league the blue and green were meant to symbolize the west coast’s ocean and forests. And the crest I thought looked like a whale’s head.....with a smiling hockey-stick mouth. How’s that for a stretch....?

As a kid growing up near the Canadian border in upstate New York, I would skate during lunch period, after school, and after dinner. In fact I won the local speed skating championship and was selected to be part of the crowning at the Winter Carnival in Saranac Lake NY. Years later, living in Michigan, a neighbor invited me to play hockey. I was watching hockey and knew the basics. I spent a lot of $$$ and bought the equipment. When I started playing in competition, I had a problem. I kept tripping over my tongue. Playing hockey with a bunch of terrible hockey players was like being in a non-stop 100 yard dash. Playing hockey was much more physically punishing the baseball, basketball, or football. This experience made aware of the physical toll hockey can cause.
In New York and Michigan hockey is very popular. My little home town in New York now has an indoor hockey rink. Lots of very good collegiate hockey teams there. In Michigan I played until some games were starting at midnight. Men, women, and kids hockey teams are scheduled at hockey arena's. The schools want playing time. And in some place, the Professional team needs playing time. BTW, I find hockey more fun to watch than the sports I once played. Except for the break for each quarter, playing is almost non-stop. Less referee intervention. No long referee discussions. When I was asked to referee a youth basketball league, they told me to call fouls when the happened, only call fouls if the happened, and finally, act like your know what you are doing.
