If it makes you feel better, the VGK announced today that Torts will NOT be returning to the team next season.

Wonder if they plan to bring Cassidy back? I'm sure that THAT would go well for all concerned... devil

Guess it's that time again.

In other news, the Leafs have hired Jim Hiller as head coach.

Love the pigeon toe-d look.

Hiller's a Vancouver Island guy , should be a bit less intense than Berube. He says the game SHOULD be fun! ,,, is that a jab at his predecessor, I wonder.

By all that's holy, I really wonder why you're looking at her feet.laugh

As a Bruins fan, I am comforted by the idea that the Maple leafs will not be a threat for another three years. The Atlantic division is already sufficiently stacked, unlike the Powderpuff league currently known as the Pacific division.

Meantime, the real curiosity is what happens in Edmonton. Reports say the "core of the team" — and I take that to mean McJeezis and Draisaitl — want a hardass of a coach. I can only take that to mean that those two guys think that they've been carrying the rest of the team and want someone to come in and kick everyone else's butts.

Team ownership has been talking to Mike Babcock. And there is serious pushback elsewhere. Understandable. He's a hard ass, true, but he's also buy reasonable reports a phenomenal jerk.

The NHL PA has demanded that a previously closed investigation be reopened. Something to do with Patrick Laine.

Prediction: Torts ends up in Edmonton. And Cassidy ends up doing a year of offering TV color commentary at 4 million a year, courtesu of Kelly McKrimmon, plus whatever dimes the networks want to toss his way.

Didn't the J.R. stuff start with somebody mentioning something about either Mickey or Dick Redmoond .... and then somebody saying that if they had to look at a pic of a Redmond, it would be much preferable that it be Jackie rather than Mickey OR Dick??  And then Skip coming up with his offer to post a pic of her on each page??  Anyway, if there erer was any rationale involved, I figure it's still quite sound ... maybe even more so if we're talking pics of a Redmond's toes.   Keep up the good work, Skip.   yes

My go-to mug* is one of these

Retro Hockey Night In Canada 15oz Mug

with a CBC logo on the bottom.   Now that CBC will no longer be broadcasting HNIC, I fully expect the value of my mug to double ... like the work of some artists does when they pack it in.

[Fwiw, I probably paid 50 cents a few years ago at the Mennonite Central thrift store in Portage la Prairie ... the best store for mugs in this neck of the woods.]

* Some IMPORTANT factors being: a) cheap, b) at least 8 oz., c) handle big enough for 3 fingers, d) side meets bottom at 90 degrees and e) diameter sufficient to allow 3 fingers plus dishcloth for washing.   You probably didn't know it was that involved. didja?  wink

Berube , an Alberta Métis hardass & Cup winner, to the Oilers. Babcock’s reputation is mud. He once said if it wasn’t for hockey he’d probably be in prison.
So I’ve got a foot-fetish…. Sue me!
HNIC ? Harry Vederchi as they say in TO.

the Redmonds , Mickey with Les Habs ,, Dick with the ChiHawks

The one truly great thing that's happened at Fenway Park this season was the invasion of the Tartan Army, which is having a splendid time drinking Boston dry during the World Cup. And Boston is having a splendid time hosting them.

The Scots sang pretty much throughout the game, which (naturally) the Red Sox lost.

Well, it was until last night.  The snottiest team in the league just got snottier.

The Babcock/Edmonton situation is rather interesting. There is no lack of players who positively hate his guts.

I admire Trottier but remember he opted to play for the USA in world play/or was it Olympics? ,, cuz his grandma was from North Dakota. Sheesh,, he said later that Bossy was mad as a hornet over that ,,, they were such a productive team duo

Regarding the feces hitting the fan, maybe the Oilers brain (?) trust views the situation akin to what is, or used to be, a conventional outlook* re. addictions .... ya gotta hit rock bottom before starting recovery.

* I could be wrong.

Facebook, in it's wisdom [cough, cough] doesn't send T.F.'s ranting to my page. yes

Young McKenna is likely the first pick. A kid from the Yukon and Indigenous to boot. Dale McCourt was the only other First Nations player to be a first pick.

“ Following the 2024 decision of the American National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to allow CHL players to be eligible to play in collegiate competition starting with the 2025–26 season,[19] McKenna became the target of significant recruitment campaigns by major American universities. As well, the WHL made what was widely interpreted as a bid to retain him, scheduling two Medicine Hat Tigers pre-season games in McKenna's hometown of Whitehorse.[20] On July 8, 2025, McKenna announced that he had committed to joining the Pennsylvania State University's Nittany Lions for the 2025–26 season, citing a desire to play "against older, heavier, stronger guys" as preparation for a professional career.[20] The Hockey News called his decision to leave the WHL "a huge blow" to Canada's traditional major junior leagues, auguring a new era for youth development in North American ice hockey.[21] As part of his recruitment to Penn State, it was reported McKenna will receive up to US$700,000 in name, image and likeness compensation.”
