Jackie's threshold for "hilarity" must be pretty low, IMNSHumbleO.   [<<< one more post toward p. 180. yes ]

Jackie may laugh at anything she wishes to.

I heard she drove across the Gordie Howe Bridge in her vintage XKE the other day, laughing all the way thinking about it....

Far be it from me to side with Pal Hal declaring that women should stay pregnant and barefoot in the kitchen - kudos to NESN for having a women’s appreciation day.

They did a good job calling the game last night.

My take is that it's like a l-o-t of things ...... there's mucho room between the two extremes ... for that matter,  why not barefoot, pregnant broadcasters?  wink

Nothing wrong with showing appreciation for "women," or anybody/thing else I suppose, but having a female broadcast crew strikes me be a bit of a hokey promotional gimmick.  Let the cream rise to the top. I didn't see the Sox/Sox broadcast, but similar (?) efforts in hockey have been tolerable, IMNSHumbleO.  [Btw, where's Jessica Mendoza and her incessant, frequently nonsensical babble, these days?]

Owen, I venture to guess that there has never been and never will be a talking-head "expert" colour person that you’d be able to endure ….

It's been a while but I thought Don Chevrier was pretty good.  Tbt, I think I'm pretty accepting ....... until obviously the person is in over his/her head.

[Don't let it out, but when I was trying to be a dairy farmer I'd watch the first period of the first Sat. nite game; make a point of seeing our man DC/MD .... who incidentally spoke considerably more truth than b.s. IMNSHumbleO .... go milk, and come back in and watch periods 2 and 3 of the second game. That way I'd see 3 periods ... i.e. a full game.]

1959-60 OHA Jr. All Star team. Lots of future NHL’ers , 3 TeePees, 5 that played on the 1972 Team Canada vs. USSR.

Yikes.

At the other end of the spectrum, there's an event next weekend called "Zee's Final Shift," celebrating Chara.

Cool idea. Not clear if it will be broadcast in Nort' Murrica, however. Lots of former Broons and other world-class vets will be playing.

BAN THE CROWHOP NOW!!!*  https://www.facebook.com/reel/2127307917866396

* Tbt, banning it 55 years ago might have served me better .... I recall batting one time against a pitcher [rumour had it that he was playing at our level because he couldn't get judicial clearance to travel inter-provincially];  I didn't even have time to flinch before the ball was by me.

T'other day I read that a fastball pitcher was clocked at 88 mph.  Doing the 60.5/46 thing give me a "baseball" conversion to about 114 mph .... then factor in ^^ crowhop.....  sad

More anecdotal fodder to support my contention that DC's sphere of influence was smaller than some would have us believe:

From Hockey Beast >> Facebook >> BHO:  Mike Keenan once tried to intimidate his own Russian players by quoting a famous Canadian broadcaster at them — and they had no idea who he was talking about. Teammate Nick Kypreos described the scene: "Keenan had his mindgames, and he would pull in the Russians in the office, and I could hear him like ripping on the Russians, 'You guys stink, you don't care, and all you want to do is go back and win your world championship with your country.'" Then he brought out his supposed trump card: "Don Cherry says no team will ever win with Russians on the team. And Don Cherry says this and Don Cherry says this about the Russians." Sergei Zubov's response completely deflated the whole thing: "Who is this Don Cherry?"

DC’s influence was a Canadian “phenomenon” ,, the rest of the world saw him as a bimbo or weren’t even aware of the guy. I cringed when some of is bootlickers thought he should run for Prime Minister.

So obviously, the “unwritten code” about not shooting the puck into the opponent’s net during warmup (or after a whistle during the game, or for that matter taking a slap shot into an empty net during a pulled-goalie scenario ….) leads to this other unwritten code : ie, fight the transgressor ,, but, but they didn’t! Corson skated away Scot- free and C Lemieux gets pummeled, likely for some previous unwritten code infraction.

Saw an interesting meme today [as usual I can't find it and don't recall the source] .... it's a then/now of PP's campaign slogan displayed on a T-shirt he's wearing.  Then: Axe The Tax.  Now: Save My Butt [while he holds up a "Keep me as leader" placard.]
