... and kudos to the Niverville Nighthawks.  "Niverville Nighthawks win the Centennial Cup! They finish the season 69-7-1. 51-6-1 in the regular season, 12-1 in the MJHL playoffs and 6-0 in the Centennial Cup."

My calculator says that's a pretty impressive  89.6% winning percentage ... I hadn't realized they had been that dominant.

I looked through their roster here  https://www.mjhlnighthawks.ca/stats/roster/42/55 and then checked other teams by switching the team roster I was looking for.  They do seem to have a few more Winnipeggers than do other league teams.... but I dunno whether or not they're ringers. And after all, Wpg. has +/-3/4 of the province's population. I think most junior teams get their players from far-and-wide .... eg, Nighthawks from MN, ND, Ukraine, Calgary, Ardrossan, Thunder Bay, etc., etc.

When the MJHL still had Wpg.-based teams they weren't as successful [on the ice, or in the stands] as the rural-based teams.  I think most like to [and maybe even consider themselves somewhat lucky] to have a few players who've come up through the local minor association ... good for PR.   I notice Selkirk and Steinbach each had about half a dozen ringers from .... insert drum roll here... Dauphin.

I didn’t mean that as derogatory ,, just kinda chongue in teek.

So obviously this Hamilton kid Schaefer wins the Calder,, he still looks a bit scrawny like a typical teenager. I remember Tocchet with the Lightning saying Stamkos wasn’t ready , physically, to play in the NHL. I think young Steve watched from the press box for quite a while.
They said the same for Pat Kane but he survived. Bedard paid the price with a broken jaw.
Good luck to Schaefer - good thing the goons are pretty much gone from the game.

On a related note, Cole Caufield has the least convincing playoff beard I've seen since Tuuka Rask's.

Clearly, Jackie agrees.

Caufield's beard (?) had me reminiscing about my time in Little League biesbol.   Once a summer we'd head to the big city [Yorkton, SK. pop. about 7,500 back then] and get our butts kicked.  A couple of their pitchers had 5 o'clock shadows .... the ball would be by me before I could even get my foot into the bucket. I was a taller-than-average kid .... but still a head shorter than ^^.  sad

The best playoff (and full-time) beards were Joe Thornton’s and Brent Burns’.  Did the Kid still can't grow a decent one.

Congrats to fans of l'hockey in Yon Great Frozen North. You've still got a team in the playoffs!

Must admit I nodded off late in the 3d and missed the OT winner. But that was a terrific series.

Last night's handshake line had a brief image of Cole Caufield with Tage Thompson. Wish I had found a still photo to show, but despite best efforts, I couldn't.

It was remarkable. Reminded me of a Chihuahua peeing on a fire hydrant.

Mixing snoozing with TIMing and Jays-Yankees and an ad came on that was sufficiently bad that I had to switch over to the Twins-Astros game.

And what do I get ?!?!?   An ad for "Brawl In The Ballpark."  https://www.allelitewrestling.com/post/twins-and-all-elite-wrestling-tag-team-for-aew-s-first-ever-mlb-postgame-event-brawl-in-the-ballpa    sad

Alas, I doubt they'll have the good sense to combine it with 10-cent beer nite.  wink https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/1d732tb/fifty_years_later_the_chaos_of_clevelands_10cent/

Public Service Announcement: one should regard any guidance that I offer with regard to either affairs of the heart or prognostications on NHL Playoff results the same way one regards a manure pile. Potentially useful in highly limited applications, but otherwise, a pile of c**p.

Vegas up 2-0 over Colorado on the road. President's Cup Curse, again?

I missed ^^ [along with the Jays in their black uniforms].   Instead tuned in to Kitchener over Kelowna 5-0 in the opening game of the Memorial Cup.

I was hoping Kelowna would show better.  However, it was good to see Kitchener show them where the bear sh*t in the buckwheat after a couple of Rockets decided that scrapping, NOT stemming from the play or part of the ebb/flow of the game, was the way to go [along with the Rockets' bush-league arm waving/gesturing after the scraps].

If the analysts are as ass-toot as they'd have us think, why don't they tell us the techniques/strategies a team should use to achieve a goal, rather than saying they "...have to find a way" .... i.e give us some suggestions as to what that "way" entails???  [Inquiring minds want to know!!]

Go, Silvertips, Go!!    ??????
