From Sports Knightly Hockey >> Facebook >> BHO. The one I saw a couple of days back was for the Oilers, so it looks like it can be customized to fit.  Nonetheless I find it kinda funny.

May be an image of golf, golf course and text that says 'Mitchell Blair @mblairYQR Follow The Toronto Maple Leafs announced their parade route this afternoon. 8 3 17 13 16 5 18 Practice Range 14 12 10 S 1'

Parade route notwithstanding, the Leafs embarrassed my Broons at home last night. It was a winnable game and Boston blew it. Grrrr. They've a tough schedule upcoming and are barely hanging on to a wildcard spot. Most annoying.

Then again, I suppose I should be grateful. Nobody expected the Bruins to even be in contention for a playoff spot at the start of the season, and they've outperformed expections - and have real talent in the pipeline for the first time in years. That includes James Hagens, who they drafted #7 overall in 2025, and who just signed an ATO in Providence and may play his first game there tonight.

Oh, and here's our gal.

Sorry to interrupt anybody who might be watching the Broons or the Blue jays, but I need a translation.

I'm sorta watching March Madness and one of the experts tells us that Minnesota "...has to put some game duress on UCLA."

Any and all insight mucho appreciated.  wink

“game duress” ,,, full court press? … elbows in the schnoz? ….. knees into the groin?

p.s. Hoffman just gave up another of his home runs ,, he's under mental duress, I'd say

Last night, I caught the last 40 seconds of one of the March Madness games. It took only 10 minutes to play 40 seconds.

I probably "watched" the same 10 minutes .... but during the time-outs I usually switch channels .... was able to catch the ends of 2 basketball games and an NHL game.  Now, this a.m. I have trouble remembering lots of it, but that doesn't necessarily illustrate cause-effect.  wink

"Pal Hal"  , Harold Ballard , the irascible owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs in a previous era , was heard to say," Basketball? It's a game for tall freaks - just give each team 100 points and let'em play the last 10 minutes!"

At the moment I'm too lazy to "look up," the basketball rule, so I'll ask the BHO experts.

Player Black1 has the ball out-of-bounds along the end line in a situation where he's allowed to "run the end-line."   White2 is "guarding" him [i.e. hopping and waving arms/legs in an attempt to disrupt/deflect the throw-in].

Is it within the rules for a team mate of Black1 to set a "pick" on White2?

[If the answer is "no" does it have anything to do with it being a dead-ball situation?]

Culture???

Back when I was young(er) and foolish(er), if/when we substituted in, or added wine* to, our usual fare we chalked it up to promoting "culture."  yes

Baby Duck needs to be fortified with some fortified Sherry - $5.50 a bottle back when I was tippin’

Ok,ok, I know this new age jargon about “locker/dressing room culture” might fall under “snowflake/woke” but Torts has a way of cutting through lackadaisical bs

Does Torts replacing Cassidy make sense? That rather depends. I would say that it does in some ways, and doesn't in others.

Let's start with the fact that Vegas tends to cheap out on goaltenders, and has since the team came into the league. For example, Laurent Broissoit, who won the Stanley Cup for them in 2023, was playing on an inexpensive contract and has bounced around the league ever since (admittedly partially the result of some injuries). More to point: Vegas's goalies this year aren't exactly superstars - and while any goalie can go on a hot streak, as did Broissoit, Vegas just doesn't seem willing to pay for a top talent in the cage.

Obviously, none of that is Cassidy's fault.

Any head coach, it appears, can lose the room. Cassidy has apparently done that twice now - Boston and now Vegas. Coaches like Jon Cooper really are the exception, rather than the rule, when it comes to tenure and job security - as well as the ability to maintain a great relationship with the bench.

Vegas has demonstrated a cut-throat mentality since coming into the league. Cassidy had a reputation as something of a hard@$$ in Boston, and has been one in Vegas. That Torts was selected to succeed him clearly shows that Vegas ownership and the front office thinks that's what they need behind the bench. Because Torts IS a hard@$$, possibly even more so than Cassidy. Maybe the mindset in the front office was something like "Oh, you guys are butthurt because Cassidy yells at you? How do you all like THIS?"

Whatever. It's not my decision to make. Seems to be something of a Hail Mary to me. I'll say this, though: I happen to like Torts. He's proven his bona fides as a coach; his off-ice, work on behalf of re-homing dogs is an underappreciated story. And regardless of W/L result, there's no coach in the NHL who can be counted on more for an entertaining post-game interview.

In a move that should surprise nobody, Toronto has sacked Brad Treliving.

Now, we wait to see if Berube survives. My bet is not, and that Bruce Cassidy is packing his bags in preparation for a return to his home province of Ontario.

How many more GM’s and coaches will go thru the Toronto turnstiles ? Good luck to Bruce if he ends up there but I don’t envy him much. Owen, methinks the “dressing room culture” has become (or always has been) abysmal.
