Not to worry... pretty sure he's used to changing jobs every three years anyway. ![]()
I heard Phil Esposito say on the radio one time that coaches and team captains are overrated,,, he said Johnny (Chief) Bucyk was good at organizing team parties but a leader in seniority
heres a list of coaches that imho didn't have a lot to do with winning a Cup : Babcock, Bylsma, Cassidy, Crawford, Crisp, Hartley, MacNeil
and some coaches that I consider influential or inspiring in winning Cups : Quenneville, Sather, Bowman, Sullivan, Sutter, Maurice, Bob Johnson, Demers, Arbour
just my layman's assessment

Ok, another funny story from Suitcase Smith,, he was backup goalie for Rochester but Cheevers played every game that season except the last 2 minutes of the final game cuz he got hurt…. listen youtube.com/clip/Ugkx-sj5LhDuj...QbC8g_-p8
Well, I gotta say that* didn't take as long as I figured it would. I wish Mr. Onslow well ... hope it doesn't turn out that he'd wished he'd stayed in Theodore. ![]()

April Fools?!?!? Dunno how come I never thought of that.
[But, but, but, I guess ........... considering that a year or ??? back, it had been reported that Connor McDavid had signed with the Carnduff Red Devils. In other threads guys question the sources for trustworthy news .... I guess it stands to reason that it would eventually get to the world of sports as well.]

How can I be worse than Maggie The Monkey?!?!? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maggie_the_Monkey I don't watch NCAA basketball during the season, but I've watched a fair bit of March Madness, and even decided not to switch channels for bits of the expert analysis. I'm 0-for-4 on the semi-final games. ![]()
Fwiw, my prognoses are South Carolina and Michigan.... but with even less conviction (?) than my guesses for the semis.
And... I noticed Elliotte Freidman going on about the situation re. Maple Laffs management [or is it mismanagement?]. He didn't even mention Dick Onslow, so I question whether he's really as good/informed/thorough as I read in this thread. ![]()

Top of the first in Chicago.... Varsho misjudges a ball and it rolls to the wall. The hitter is credited with a triple. How is this [and many others like it] not a single + a 2-base error?
They figure it’s an uncatchable ball,, then the hometown-friendly scorekeeper collects his bribery $$
I’ll bet you’re all chafing at the bit to watch this classic….

It only became uncatchable because Varsho first made a mental error. If a flyball is lofted out toward an outfielder, but to his left, and he misjudges it and breaks to his right and subsequently can't recover in time to catch it, was it "uncatchable." "They" talk about batters having a "professional at-bat" .... Varsho didn't show a professional fielding attempt on ^^ one, IMNSHumbleO.
Wasn't "brewery rep." a fairly common off-season job (?) for CFL and NHL players back iin the goodle days? [And conspicuous by it's absence is Glen Hall painting his barn .... and painting his barn ... and painting his... etc. ... etc.
]
Yeah, it was catchable now that I reviewed it (with New York….) , but my hometown scorekeeper bias still stands… maybe
Roger Maris worked for Busch beer when he played for the Cardinals & after retirement. Maybe George (don’t call me Jorge) Bell worked for Labatts….
Gu LaFleur might’ve worked for Molson AND McDonalds Tobacco…..
YES!! .... a player finally gives us the straight goods [i.e. answer to the first question] rather than simply grunting agreement with the interviewer ... though he did pretty well with the obvious cliches after that. https://www.facebook.com/reel/2130712484135218

Back in early September, I opined that I would consider the winter sports season a success if both the Patriots and the Bruins made it to the first round of the playoffs. Given the abysmal performance of both in 24-25, this seemed somewhat over-optimistic, but I'm that sorta guy.
To everyone's astonishment, the Pats made it all the way to the Superbowl (where they got deservedly smoked). Even so, that's one helluva turnaround.
And yesterday the Bruins clinched at least the second wild card spot in the east, though not by winning. They COULD have clinched if they'd beaten Tampa, but instead needed losses by Detroit and the Islanders to secure the spot.
I'll take it. I have no expectation that the Bruins will get past the first round - in fact, they could very well get blown out in four. The way things stand today we'd be facing Carolina - an excellent team built for the playoffs. If we get past them, however, we'd likely be facing either the Flyers or the Pens - and I like our chances better with that.
Much could still change. However, looking back on the preseason prediction: I am well satisfied. This season has been a successful one.
And this afternoon, it's off to Providence to watch the Baby Bruins play. Life is good.

Some years back, a Leaf fan friend of ours was leaving a party when I called to him, "Hey, Crawford, you heard of Leafs Nation?"
He said yes.
I said, "It's a third world country!"
Some things don't change.
