In sports history? Gotta take issue with that. We had Danny Gallivan and Dick Irvin calling for the Habs. Gallivan alone was "worth the price of admission". He was exciting to listen to, way more entertaining than plodding old Foster Hewitt. And, way before his broadcasting career, he was once invited to a New York Giants training camp as a pitcher. An arm injury may have been bad for him at the time, but it turned out to be our good fortune.

And furthermore and moreover,  I'm pretty sure* it was in regards to Serge, not Denis, although it seems that many apparently disagree with me.

* i.e. about 100%.

Yep, he first said it about S. Savard,, although Denis did it too, but Serge did it at the blue line to keep the puck in the O.Z.

If your point is that there's an argument to be had ...

(And I wonder which part of your missive - mayhaps the image of the young lady? - garnered you the "likes".)

Ha,, I like his antics with Dahlin’s helmet.
However, …. There’s more Marchie … (I call him “Marchie” even though he doesn’t know me from Adam)

Department of Player Safety has fined #63 $5,000.00 for that little kerfuffle.

Worth the price, IMO, in that the Dahlin crosscheck that started things wasn't called.

The ^^ ad isn't "Absolutely hilarious...." as the caption states .... it's absolutely stoopid .... though I haven't boycotted Tim Horton's over it, it's a channel-turner if ever there was one.

The ripping of the ear loop is only slightly less so, though I can go along with cross-check >> punch in the face.

And now you know the rest of the story.................... .  wink

From Harry Neale (?)  >> The Rebel League (?)  >> Hockey Beast >> Facebook  >> BHO:

”He (Al Smith) also had a wicked sense of humour. The Whalers had Swedish twins on their team named Thommy and Christer Abrahamsson, who had to drive through a tough Latino neighborhood on their way to the rink in Hartford.

One day, they got trouble from some punks hanging out on a street corner and told Smith about it.

The Whalers goalie thought about their problem for a minute, then said, ”This is what you do. The next time you drive through there, you rise your middle finger to them. That’s the sign that you’re friends in Puerto Rico.”

Neale says the twins had to rip through a red light the next day to escape the angry mob.”

Amazing tribute to Marchand at TD Garden last night. Brought him to tears. There were tears and cheers in the stands. And a few in my living room.

Fitting that we hear Ray Ferraro’s voice at the end of that clip - another small player who beat the odds like Marchand did.

From Old Canada Series >> my Facebook >> BHO:

Prince Albert, Saskatchewan born hockey goalie, John Kiszkan, playing for the Vancouver Canucks in the WHL in 1954-55. Kiszkan, nicknamed “The China Wall”, would rename himself Johnny Bower.

Gripe #58
As far as I’m concerned, one of the worst things a baseball announcer can say, and he (FOX Sports) just said it, is after 4 1/2 innings ,”we’re halfway home”. What?! , the guy has to sadly “endure” 4 1/2 more innings before he can beat a hasty retreat out of the stadium! ? Sheeesh…. I say make the guy walk the plank!
