And there are better. It's a fair walk from the Toronto Marlies' arena to the Leafs' arena. It's not that long a drive, and a bridge crossing, from Laval south to downtown Montreal. (Laval and Montreal are next door neighbours.) It's farther from Ottawa to Belleville - down the 416 and west on the 401. Don't bother naming the arenas, 'cause they change the names so frequently. Our waste of money (and money loser) here started as the K-ROCK Centre (radio station), then became the Leon's Centre (furniture store chain), and is now the (gag!) Slush Puppie Place.

... I guess the Macon Coliseum as the home arena for the Macon Whoopee would be a rather unimaginative let-down?? wink

...watched a Casper Ghosts home game some years back ... Good team name [IMNSHumbleO] but I don't know what their home field was called. Fwiw, I liked "The Ball Park in Arlington."

Edit: And apparently Skinner might be nearing the end of his tenure in Edmonton.   Can't say I'm disappointed....  fwiw, I'd be "okay" with him playing out the string as a backup or in the AHL/KHL/???.

An amusing game currently underway between the Broons and the Bolts. Most notable aspect: the Geekie boys — Morgan and Connor — are facing off against each other. Connor for Tampa Bay, Morgan for Boston.

Since Jackie seems to  be AWOL, here's a pic of Rempe and McDavid  crying  [and ostensibly a thumbnail of Kayla].

And since extrapolation is a big hit on BHO....

May be an image of hockey and text that says 'kayla @tatesrangers Following Connor McDavid goals goals this season: O Matt Rempe goals this season: 1 let's start let'sstartadialogue#NYR a dialogue #NYR'

[Fwiw, it also points out that Ryan Reaves has a goal.]

Jackie was missing because I was away from my desktop, and fumble with thumbs-on-phone.

Before we move on, Rempe isn't qualified to hose down CMcD's jockstrap.

Here's our girl.

Re. hosing down jockstraps ... I've bored you with it before, but ............ ???

'Way back I was friends with a couple of U. of MB. Bisons.  They used to play Fri. nite / Sat. afternoon double headers. The story I got was they were playing out in BC and when it came time to dress Sat. aft. they discovered that the equipment manager had neglected to do the laundry after Friday's game. Apparently they were holding their noses and picking T-shirts and jocks [identifiable with #s in permanent marker] out of the hamper with their sticks.  I never tried to verify the story .... maybe "leave well enough alone"??

.... and I don't recall the results of the game, though they were pretty good back then, so I kinda expect they won.  Now... what about the superstition (?) of dressing the same for a game following a win???

Thanks for that, Chuck. Whenever the family (parents and kids) would return from the Laurentians to Montreal on the Autoroute, we could see Joe's Place (St. Joseph's Oratory) well before we hit the city. I'm certain you often saw the CN Tower across the lake from Niagara.

Good ol' John Flag (Jean Drapeau). Who else could come up with two major events (Expo 67 and the Olympics) that took place less than ten years apart, which caused such boom-bust cycles. These events are like shooting up and then undergoing withdrawal.

Edited to add: And, geez, Chuck, that Hamilton Hog is a sight I'd like to give back! Hope I don't have nightmares.

Paul R When I was knee-high to a thumbpick we’d look across Lake Ontario from our perch (! no pun untended) on the pier at the entrance to the first Welland Canal and see the Royal York Hotel and one or two other buildings.
Johnny Dray-p-owe liked the limelight, methinks. Jamie Snider and I hopped a freight from Toronto, then hitch hiked from Brockville to Moan-Ray-all in 1967. We hung out at a hippie-dippie youth hostel, eyes agog as we took in the eccentric characters there. I walked down to the Expo site, the others thought I was crazy and going “establishment”!

Hey, Chuck, I spent many. many hours at Expo. I had the passport and the visa, and I'd leave my summer job (urban camp counsellor), hop the Metro, and get there toot sweet, and spend the evening. I saw Lightfoot there in May, crashed the motorbike on the way home (some dummy ran a stop sign and broadsided me), and graduated uni (and went to the grad dance) on crutches (no breaks, just a really bad sprain). So it was back to the bus and Metro to get around (the bike was totaled).

Actually, it was a great time to live in Montreal (except for the bombs in the mailboxes) - new Metro, Expo, expanding social horizons, new music and a new flag. And LBP instead of "the Chief".

From Spittin' Chicklets >> my Facebook >> BHO:

"The people of Buffalo do not deserve this pain."

May be an image of hockey and text that says 'Ryan Whitney @ryanwhitney6 I feel sick for Buffalo Sabres fans. Just solid salt of the earth type people and their season is already over with 79 games left. AGAIN'

... ^^ is indeed a bummer ... they didn't even make it  to the "playoff implications" which typically start about 10 days from now. crying

Edit: Nifty (?) double play in Milwaukee.

Chuck, you yam a survivor. I bet your machine was waaay more powerful than mine.

Late spring of '65, my parents knocked on my bedroom door, came in with a full page ad from the Montreal Star. It was an advert for a motorbike. Just 50 cc and, as I later found out, much underpowered. I had to get my licence and "don't talk to your sister about it". (I was the youngest.)

That putt-putt was a taste of freedom. I rode it into the Laurentians once, when my parents were visiting close friends there. I rode back home in the early evening, cool August night and, in Laval, when I got to the first traffic light, I almost couldn't pull the brake lever, my hands were so cold and rigid. I got home and walked upstairs like a cowboy. Another time I was beside the airport when a jet came in for a landing. I almost lost control of the bike. Those flying machines are loud.

In the crash in '67 the machine went over and I jumped up and, sprained ankle and all, hopped over and off the road. Cops came and they just put me into the back and drove right away to the hospital. The look on my parents' faces when they came in ... . And I won't forget the ER doc. He had blood on his gown from something else. He quipped to the nurse, "They call me bloody Pflanzer!" So I blame Lightfoot for the crash. I'd have gone home earlier (maybe) if I hadn't seen him at Expo that day.

A friend/room mate of my wife in U  [Halifax with lots of hills] had a Honda 50.  Apparently standard practice was for the passenger to have to get off  >> walk up the hill >> get back on.

Otoh, I thought my '42 Harley "45" had lots of power .... until the big influx of Japanese bikes rendered it "a plodder,"* according to some reports I read.

* but, but, but, supposedly a fairly reliable plodder. yes

Not an unfamiliar scenario. On the Laurentian trip I encountered one climb where I, the driver and only passenger, had to dismount and walk it, under power, to the top.

I took a date to a dance on campus. On the way back to her home I rounded a corner onto Westminster and up the railway overpass (this was in Montreal West). It couldn't make it. I had to u-turn, head back down and go straight back on Westminster, do another u-turn and take a run at the overpass. This time it made it. Not that any of it made any difference. I'd already written off the date and was going to move on. (My being a part of the Freshman Reception Association got me four different dates - an unintended perk.)

The ^^ pic reminded me of another "boys will be boys" incident, the Shack/Zeidel brouhaha (?).  So I proceeded to "look it up."    [No TV in our household back then, but I do recall some radio reports, though it seems they may have left out some pertinent info.]

 https://www.bing.com/videos/riverview/relatedvideo?&q=shack+ziedel+stick+swinging&&mid=400427B5D1DDD784291D400427B5D1DDD784291D&&FORM=VRDGAR

Lots of background info ... info about which I wasn't particularly knowledgeable [Thank you Mrs. Lindsay].   Fwiw, I found our man DC/MD's commentary kinda interesting (?).  At 6:30ish  "... never did anything to anybody that didn't do something to him .... " and continuing on [about 6:49]  "Bo Elik ... kinda a smart alec ... "

But, but, but, I'm coming around ....   seeing all the good that comes from chirping / trash talking / etc. / etc. wink

Edit: I see Hockey Feed has an "explanation" along with the pic: "When the Gumper has had just about enough of your bulls***."

Maddy, who still hasn’t responded to my messages, btw, :-( is looking more like the girl-next-door today - how charmingly down-to-earth, i say. I believe she might have been bungee jumping off the CN Tower before she went into the studio.
