I happened to be watching about ^^ time; what struck me was that "they" apparently didn't bother to fill the crack in the concrete before painting.
More importantly during last nite's Riders/Lions game, at some point one of the experts mentioned that the Lions would have their work cut out for them as the Riders were 3-0 when leading at the half [or maybe it was after 3 quarters]. Since their record was 3-0, weren't they also 3-0 when the head coach wore matching socks / when they opened the game as the receiving [or kicking] team / etc. /etc. ??

Yes, unless you delete the first S and replace the A with an I. It's no longer useless.
I'm a goin' to hell. Maybe we'll luck out and be on the same train.

It looks like the Martin clan found some time somewhere: https://www.facebook.com/watch?v=1383650502747800 ![]()

Owen, you'll be pleased to know that your homie Morgan Geekie just signed a six-year extension with the Broons at a $5.5mm AAV.
In my opinion, the AAV is good for both player and team. The term, however, strikes me as a potential error for one party or another. If Geekie can continue to produce at the level he did last year, that contract will be Marchand-level underpayment in a few years. If this past season proves a one-off, the Broons will be left holding the bag. Would have been happier for both to set term at three years, but hey, what do I know?
I’ve driven past Geekie’s home town of Strathclair a few times on “The Yellowhead” route of the Trans-Canada Highway, but I fail to remember if there was a “Home of the Hockey Geeks” sign there. (Pop Geekie played pro, Morgan and his brother play in the NHL,,,, methinks local yokels, maybe even those from Russell , could lobby the powers that be for such a sign….)
Nope, no "Home Of _______ " sign.
I think the Jets might have been better off IF the Hawks had signed Toews. I wish him well, and guys gotta do what they gotta do, but I sometimes wonder when "leave well enough alone" should (?) kick in.
Fwiw, some years back I took a detour to go through Sceptre, SK in anticipation of seeing a "Home Of Bert Olmstead" sign, but couldn't find one. But, but, but, the excursion wasn't a total loss, while in the area we did encounter the world's biggest chokecherry cluster [in Lancer].

Not to get into RFK (don't call me "junior) territory, but methinks Toews could be a Poster Boy for what happens with long Covid…. (actually, I’m not sure if he got vaccinated)
p.s. , after in-depth research for 1.3 minutes, I stumbled on this from an article by a Beantown health journalist....

Well, might as well “pile-on” re Covid re Brandon Sutter....
“ In March 2021, he was one of 21 Canucks players that contracted COVID-19 and is now considered a "long-hauler" experiencing post-COVID after effects which prevent him from training. Unlike ex-Edmonton Oilers backup goalie Alex Stalock and forward Josh Archibald, Sutter does not suffer from myocarditis, a condition that causes heart inflammation associated with COVID-19.[28][29]
Sutter was known as "Flat Stanley" to his Penguins teammates, due to his thin frame. Flat Stanley is a children's book character who is squashed under a bulletin board and becomes flattened. He then mails himself around the world to have adventures”

Well, maybe it’s time to pay homage to our thread subject, , I hear/read that he’s done his last podcast and is forever silencing his public rants.
“ Don Cherry
Defence
Years with the Toronto Maple Leafs: 1964 training camp
Regular season games played with the Maple Leafs: 0
(Don Cherry was a member of the Rochester Americans, the Toronto Maple Leafs American Hockey League farm team, from 1963-64 to 1968-69. As such, he would attend the training camps held by the Maple Leafs each September. Don never played in the NHL with Toronto).
We never had a chance. No matter how good we played at training camp, we were destined for Rochester. We knew that many times.
You couldn’t believe how we got treated at this camp (in September 1964). We first walked in and we walked by the Leafs’ dressing room – a great big, bright, beautiful dressing room all painted white. New equipment. New underwear. It was unbelievable – nice and spacious.
We got to ours and, I swear to you, it was by the boilers and the hot water tanks and everything, and the roof was so low you had to duck. It was wet because the Leafs had Tulsa as a farm team, too (in the Central Professional Hockey League), and when we’d leave, Tulsa would come in. The room was always wet and damp. Your equipment was always wet and damp and you had to go out in the cold. Socks were always wet. Never new underwear. And here we’d walk by the Leafs and they’d have brand new underwear all the time, equipment nice and dry, and one team dressing in there.
If the day was really bad – this was in the fall – we’d practise at eight o’clock (in the morning) so the NHL guys could sleep in. But if it was a nice, sunny day, they’d practise at eight so they could play golf after.”
Apparently there's another draftee that might not be related to Jimmy or Billy Martin: https://www.ctvnews.ca/winnipeg/article/oakbanks-owen-martin-drafted-by-winnipeg-jets/
Fwiw, I heard/read t'other day that DC/MD issued some clarification .... that the final good-bye was only final for this season. But, as I've stated before, I don't think his sphere of influence is big enough to be of consequence [aside from the "consequence" of his personal income].
^^^^^ That Owen from Oakbank could be related to Bill Speer (former St. Catharines TeePee and Memorial Cup winner) of the 1970 Bruins team that won the Cup. To wit (from the history of MB website)…
“ Soon after the treaties were signed, and the Indigenous were pushed to reserves, settlers started to come into the area to take up the land.
In 1882, Speer House would be constructed nearby to where Oakbank would eventually sit. The house was built with local materials and using simple construction methods that were common in wood-frame farmhouses in rural Manitoba of this time. The home was built by John Speer, who had come from Ontario, to settle in the district. One interesting fact is that Speer was one of 12 farmers who contributed to the first export shipment of grain from Winnipeg a few years earlier in 1876. This helped to make Manitoba a major force in the grain industry of Canada. The home itself still stands and is still lived in by the descendants of John Speer, all these years later. In 1998, the home was made a Municipal Heritage Site.”
I will never match you guys when it comes to history. So I stay focused on the now.
Lots going on. Among other things, Marner to Vegas, 8 X $12mm, with deets to follow.
The amazing thing is Marchand likely to stay in Florida, 6 X 5.25mm. Most of that in signing bonuses. The Rat finally gets paid. Hope he stays married to that babe..
And the Habs traded Primeau to Carolina for a bag of pucks.

Very recent history …. I actually think there’s some stink in this move … he looked good in my eyes last season. Must be a dressing room poison.
“ The Chicago Blackhawks are cutting ties with former 54-point scoring forward Philipp Kurashev, who was not given a qualifying contract offer and now becomes a UFA.
The Blackhawks are taking a new direction this summer with the hiring of new head coach Jeff Blashill, while retaining former interim coach Anders Sorensen as an assistant on his staff.
On the opening day of Blackhawks Development Camp, shortly after the end of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, Chicago general manager Kyle Davidson has also extended qualifying contract offers to several players on the team, but with one notable player left out.”

Such are the intangibles to which we mere mortals are rarely given insight, until years later, when someone spills the beans.
But we do hear rumors. Oh, yes - we hear rumors.

Speaking of whom: word is he just signed with Los Angeles. One year contract, base of $2mm and up to 2mm in bonuses. That's more than twice what Edmonton was paying him this past season.
