Dadburnit!.. I must be slippin’, , it’s been over 2 days since I’ve had the honour of relating to you all some more St. Catharines junior hockey history…… (btw, those of you with keen eyes and a stickler for detail will wonder about the "D" behind the crossed tomahawks on George Hulme's (no.30) shoulder patch. The parent club Chicago's Central League farm team was the Dallas Blackhawks back then. Some of their "sweaters" were used for the juniors. Others had the StC letters with the crossed tomahawks.... so now you know))

^^^^^ that photo would have been when they won the OHA championship before they went on to play in the infamous Quebec Ramparts series ,,, a black mark in Canadian sports history.

I don't know the ins-and-outs of NIL and the "portal" but the number of references to player movement makes me a bit leery ... is $$$ affecting things more than is "good" for the game?
Are the players that jump to the pros now [i.e at the end of U. hockey] taking/completing a regular academic load? Doesn't the regular academic university year go on for a bit more?
In that BU was my Alma Mater (I went to almost every Terriers game I could... got to watch Eruzione, Craig et. al. play several years before the fabled Miracle on Ice game) I'm disappointed by the result, but no question WM outplayed the Boston lads. So now at best I can only have half of my fantasy weekend come true (a Bruins loss). I may have to watch the final round of The Masters instead.
The so-called "transfer portal" isn't limited to hockey - it's used across sports. I must admit it seems a bit squirrelly to me - but then again, it's not like student athletes weren't transferring to better programs before the portal was created, ostensibly to provide greater transparency. The biggest difference between pre- and post-portal transfers is that athletes ostensibly had to sit out a season prior to being eligible to play. The downside, of course, is that athletes who develop significantly in a given season can jump to another program if they (and the program) think they'll be a good fit. That must be maddening for coaches at the lesser schools.
As for the academics... well, one presumes that players are required to maintain certain minimums in GPA in order to keep their eligibility to play. Then again, it's been an open secret for generations that certain courses and majors are present at schools with serious sports programs that... shall we say, FACILITATES reasonable academic results?
Oh, and by the way - here's our gal.

He's both things, plus being a marvelous musician (just about anything with strings) and one of the best teachers I've ever encountered.
I'm a fan. I'd post pictures here but I'm afraid he's just not as fetching as Jackie.

Originally posted by chuckv97Congratulations to Rory McIlroy for winning the Masters. He paid his dues, methinks.
Golf is one of two interests I've had within which the more diligently I pursued it, the worse I got. I do have a biomechanical excuse - a really messed up shoulder - but that's an excuse, not a reason. I just pretty much suck at it. The rare few good shots I ever hit, I figured out in retrospect, happened at moments during which I had NOTHING going through my head. That doesn't happen often. Rest of the time, I'm most useful on a golf course when driving the beer cart.
This year's Masters was some story. Let's leave aside McIllroy's previously forsaken pursuits of a Green Jacket and the Career Grand Slam - mostly. They made what just happened more dramatic, but from my perspective that's not the story.
In the past, we have seen extraordinary talents - players who saw shots and concepts differently than anyone else - win. Exhibit A: Tiger Woods. We saw players who were just that much better than anyone else - Exhibit B: Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. We saw players who by sheer cussedness and durability managed to do it. Exhibit C: Phil Mickelson, Ben Crenshaw, Freddie Couples and others.
McIllroy's win today was the result of a combination of his own grit and failures by others. It was not an astonishing performance, in my view; it was a combination of decent skill and luck. The skill got him into the final pairing; the luck got him the rest of the way when arguably better players managed to fall out of favor with the Gods despite the fact that Rory himself screwed up bigly a bunch of times.
This, in my view, is what makes The Masters so amazing. It's not just the fact that the very best play it. Sometimes, the Gods smile on someone who wasn't the best player, but who managed to earn it anyway. And it's not just vision and a willingness to see the game differently: if it was, Bryson Dechambeau was in a position to clean Rory's clock, and he finished tied for 5th.
Gotta admit that when Rory collapsed in tears on the green in the playoff, his were not the only tears of joy that I know about. That was a fabulous tournament.
Oh, and by the way: the Bruins won today, the dumb bastards. My weekend is mostly ruined.

I thought that shot over the trees and landing near the pin early on ( i forget on what hole it occurred,,, thank you, Mrs. Lindsay) was great,, he even laughed about it for afew minutes. The Canuck Conners gave a fine showing, although faded a bit later on.
I'm watching the Oilers and Jets ,,, a possible playoff head butting in a few weeks.
BooYays made a comeback in Maryland to go home with a split in the 2 gamer after leaving Fenway with a 3 and 1 series win.
(no TeePees or Jr. Blackhawks news today,,,,,)

We had company, so am late tuning in .... but just heard Kevin Sawyer explain; "This team [i.e. the Jets] is ready to win because of the team that they are."
What the hello is he talking about?
So, obviously it's a bit of word salad that leads one to muse over the fact that the aforementioned team, a word in which there is no "I", has prepared itself with constructive and well-focused preparatory exercises and drills to reach a level of excellence that one has rarely seen in the annals of Red River Valley sports history, excluding the era, of course, pertaining to former TeePee Bobby Hull's exploits alongside the dexterous duo from Sweden during the turbulent World Hockey Association days.
(other than that, I can't help you)

Wouldn't "everybody," even the Columbus bench, see the penalty on the scoreboard [i.e. how would they be "unaware"]? I haven't done much of a "search" .... did he leave the ice [i.e. go onto the bench] and subsequently come back out for a later shift, or did he get his Gatorade at the bench and just stay on the ice?

Strange shootout situation in Moan-Ray-all … puck gets lodged in the back of net,, called no goal at first,, Laine shoots next, misses,, then replay shows previous Chicago shot went in, but Laine does not re-do his shot …. nevah seen dat b’foah!
Habs still need a point to clinch playoff spot,, with Columbus on their heels
