Jackie wishes to point out that the blonde at upper left is wearing figure skates.

I love Jackie, but with those pigeon toes she’d have a hard time shoveling snow wearing ANY skates.

Ya... I can just see the interview process:

" Reasonably attractive?   ...... check!

Can skate?     ...... check!

Can shovel snow? .... check!

Pigeon-toed?     Aaaarrgghh!!  What the blank, blank, blank is it with girls nowadays?!!?"

What you must understand is that the Divine Ms. Jackie is a mere slip of a gal, works with men who tower over her even when they're not wearing skates, accordingly wears ferocious platform shoes so that she can remain in frame, and is almost constantly in motion. As a result, she of regularly off-balance.

Perhaps I'm giving more benefit of doubt than is deserved, but it occurs to me that It might not just be the shoes and motion contributing. She may have an innate tendency to pitch forward for other reasons involving gravity. I've seen it happen.

Well, if yer gonna blast a slapper at the buzzer, (& not into an empty net), might as well try hit one of yer hated opposition players. Sore loser? Or message for the next game between them in a few days?

Isn't "sending a message" part of the code?  cheeky

I hope Westman cable does a better job of the Frozen Four than they did of the regionals ... but, I did get Denver vs. B.U. [though they did cut away for the Penn/UConn overtime].    Good 'ockey, IMNSHumbleO!!

Have been watching mucho March Madness, both men's/women's ... entertaining stuff, although taking 12-15 minutes to play the final few minutes, and the seemingly incessant "reviews" of "last touched by" or "get the clock right" seem to detract from the game, IMNSHumbleO.

But I did catch some of the Jets vs. Canucks this aft .... including a Canucks goal that the Jets "challenged" [and lost] as being off-side.   To my tired ol' eyes, the evidence that it was indeed offside was conclusive enough.  If they're gonna call what the video doesn't support, they should at least keep the "evidence" under wraps, IMNSHumbleO.

“Pal Hal” Ballard, when some exhibition NBA games started being played at Maple Leaf Gardens was heard to say,”Basketball’s a game for tall freaks, and they should just give each team a 100 points, then play the last 10 minutes.”

I have no clue who "Pal Hal" Ballard is/was, but I agree with his sentiments. Honestly, I find basketball rather dull to watch these days.

Okay, a basketball question .... has the rule, or the interpretation of the rule, for palming / carrying the ball changed in recent years?

Some of it looks to me like the hand is in contact noticeably more than a 180 degree arc .... haven't been involved for a long time, but it looks to me like stuff that used to be called is now acceptable.

... and even guys that find it boring can have an opinion. wink

Is there a limit on the size of players’ hands, re ^^^^ ?
Pal Hal would say it’s a game for tall freaks with huge hands

Not that I'm aware of, but a pretty successful high school coach once told me that he liked to see boys with big feet and not-hairy legs ... said that was at least as good an indication as anything else he'd come across in trying to assess up-and-comers ...  kinda an imprecise science (?), but he figured it indicated room to grow and that he could teach the requisite skills.

I don't think so, but I never asked him/her/it/they .... I figure he/she/it/they saw hairy legs as an indicator that growth potential was limited.

The story I heard was that he gave most of his dough to the Scott Mission,, saying his mistress/companion and kids already scrounged enough out of  him.
(Keon , one of many who wouldn't put up with Ballard's nonsense,, others who left or were happily traded - McDonald, Sittler, and Laurie Boschman who was a Christian - Pal Hal said those Christian types are too soft....)

His children went after Yolanda and left her out to dry. She and Hal weren't married, but she'd changed her last name to Ballard. That didn't help. Ballard once removed the Maple Cheese Gardens organ to make room for more seats. He was one of the old guard of stingy owners who underpaid their players. When Pat Keon retired, Dave was there along with Dick Duff. A colleague introduced us. All I could say was, "I grew up in Montreal," to which Duff replied, "Oh, the real hockey!"

When my sister visited us from Calgary, she brought a stuffed toy duck for our daughter, who was seven at the time. We named the duck Harold Mallard. Our daughter took skating lessons through the City of Toronto, which allowed us to take part in a free skate at the Gardens. We stood on the maple leaf at centre ice. I was tempted to stomp on it, but I curbed the impulse.

^^^^ laugh

I heard that Ballard, Stanford Smythe, and Imlach were a bunch of boozers,, Eddie Shack even mentioned one time that the whole organization from top to bottom drank too much. Saner heads like Armstrong and Keon probably got them to the last '67 Cup win.
