I've heard that a lot of very senior league personnel - including head coaches - consider Makar to be the best defensive player since Orr. I'm not sure that's entirely fair - there have been a number of brilliant defensemen since #4 changed the way the game is played - but there's no question that Makar is a superb player, and a joy to watch.

I never noticed at the time but Orr rarerly skated backwards,, he was quicker and better defending going forwards.
(I recall reading that somewhere,, now I’ll have to look at old videos to see if’n dat’s troo)

^^^^ well, so, obviously, etc. …. I think what I read years ago was that he rarely skated backwards because he was always coming back from an offensive rush and derailed the opposition on his back check.
Other quotes I found say he was a great skater going backwards, but I can’t find any video evidence of that.

Owen It’s the old “don’t show up the other team” unspoken code #3,528. In bayzbal it used to be admiring your home run and then flipping your bat,,, or hitting a homer and trotting around the bases real slow and deliberate with the occasional stare at the pitcher.
And lest I forget - scoring an mt netter by skating 10 feet (^~ metres/meters) from the net and blasting a slap shot with lots of panache.
(the latter three being codes #2,567, #1,058, and #587)

... and let's not forget #614 / sub-section (c) .... the cross-check to the shoulder/side of the head delivered with equal panache.
