If I'm betting with my money it's two .... MacTavish and Messier.

But, but, but, that dude at the front right looks like a goalie who does some expert analysis nowadays [and who's name escapes me just now].

Edit: And more importantly I see we're on p. 106, so ................... ????

The kilt-wearing, bagpiper Glenn Healey
I see BrianLeetch, goalie Mike Richter, Eddie Olcyck, I think Glenn Anderson on McTavish's right

I do apologize... between work load and following the pi$$ing contest between Cam Neely and Jeremy Swayman's agent, I was asleep at the switch.

I do prefer Ms. Redmond in a "girl next door" guise...

I’d let Jackie shine my shoes all day long if’n she was so inclined.

I hadn’t noticed the Neely/agent dustup, I’ll check it out.

Meanwhile, here are 3 ex-St. Catharines Blackhawks with an ex-Guelph Biltmore.

I don't know how you've managed to miss it. It's the top story in hockey right now, at least on the socials.

It's the kind of thing that's a lot more fun mid-summer, but it's a lot more dramatic now that opening night draws nigh.

While Neely was a fearsome player, as was Sweeney, I have no great respect for them as executives. They've made some boneheaded moves - paging Mitchell Miller, and although I think bringing in Jim Montgomery was a smart decision, I'll never get past the way they left Bruce Cassidy twisting in the wind for nearly a month after all that Cassidy did for the Bruins. Disgraceful.

That said, the last few years have shown them doing everything possible to bring the Cup back to where it rightfully belongs (ahem). This little contretemps started with the Bruins essentially announcing that Sway was the #1 during last year's playoffs - and he did very well; it meant trading Linus Ullmark (Boston had an awesome goalie tandem last few years). Sway gave every indication of being a committed player to the team - a team with a history of having great players accept less than they could get on the open market for a larger goal: immortality. This idea of paying a handful of superstars 50% of the cap and hoping the rest could keep up...? How many Cups have the Oilers and Leafs won lately?

Sweeney et. al. could have taken Sway to arbitration. They chose not to, apparently believing they were negotiating with someone who was bargaining in good faith. I don't think they were. Sway asked for arbitration last year. He was awarded 1 year at roughly $3.5mm - a very fair price for a guy with good w/l and save% and GAA, but no major trophies or playoff successes. He's never played #1 game load, and even so he's made it clear he wants $9.5mm+ to "reset the goalie market."

I admire his skill and his chutzpah. But he's shown he's all about the money. Even if he does finally sign, I suspect his return to the locker room will be chilly.  I put this on Swayman, not the front office.

Not to derail ^^^, but y'all know how it is ....

From Hockey Beast >> my Facebook >> BHO:

”We brought in seven players for a series of psychological and physical tests. One of them was Trevor Linden.

He called me the night before and said, ’Hi, Mr. Burke, it’s Trevor Linden. My dad said I should call you because I can’t come on Saturday.’ I said, ’Well, Trevor, none of the players call me Mr. Burke. Call me Burkie. And, why can’t you come?’ ’My dad said I had to call you to say I couldn’t come.’ I said, ’I know, I get that part. I heard that twice – your dad made you call me and you can’t come. This is the this time now, why can’t you come?’

Minnesota had the first pick overall, so I thought they were up to something. And Linden said, ’Well it’s branding day at my uncle’s ranch in Medicine Hat, and my dad says I have to stay and help him.’ So, I said, ’I’m a city boy, so tell me what branding is.’ He said, ’Well, we run range cattle up here in the Hat, and in the spring we round them up and we brand all the calves. We turn one-year-old male calves into steers.’

I said, ’Well, what’s your job on branding day?’ He said, ’When the cattle comes out of the pen, I grab them and hold them down and pin them while we brand them and cut their nuts off.’ I said, ’You can skip these tests’. We never tested him”

Wearing “0” by pitchers symbolizes 0.00 ERA?
“ The Dodgers clearly didn't share those concerns, and will be hoping their new No. 0 will be just as sparse with his hits and runs allowed as he is with his new number.”

Meanwhile, the NHL brass’ darling, putting bums in seats and garnering mucho notoriety in the big apple, Matt Rempe , aka "The Rempire State Building", keeps playing his role.
“ Matt Rempe has shocked the hockey world when he was asked which enforcer he'd like to fight. His surprising answer: Milan Lucic.
Matt Rempe has quickly embraced his role as the New York Rangers' young, fearless enforcer. Despite playing just 17 games in his rookie NHL season in 2023-24, Rempe made a lasting impression, earning a spot in the hearts of Rangers fans who eagerly anticipate his next on-ice fight.
During a recent autograph session, Matt Rempe made headlines with his choice of a dream fight opponent. Instead of picking the usual fighters like Andreas Englund or Nicholas Deslauriers, Rempe surprised many by naming Milan Lucic, which was reported by Hockey Patrol.”

You'd think after this beating he'd be more selective...

I must say that I am unimpressed by Rempe and the Rangers' philosophy with him. Yeah, I grew up in the days when you'd go to a fight and every once in a while a hockey game would break out. I loved it.

But I do think things are better now: we have guys who aren't afraid to drop the gloves, but mostly don't do so unless there's a good reason to. Rempe seems to simply be out there to stir things up. Heaven knows, it's not like he's fast or has a great shot.
